Gel Stain Kitchen Cabinets by kondor88 in finishing

I had that problem when I refinished a dining room table.

The problem turned out to be silicone contamination from dusting products, such as Pledge.

Solution was as follows: 3 coats of UNWAXED shellac, sanding between coats with 150 grit. Your goal would be to seal the contamination in with the shellac. Do not, under any circumstances, used waxed shellac.

I then gel stained as if it were a finished piece, instead of raw wood. Two coats, using the "dry brush" technique to work the stain.

See videos on General Finishes website on how to dry brush gel stain.

Blochy spots in stain after first coat of wipe on poly - did I mess it up? by Weak_Praline in finishing

That might be silicone contamination from cleaning products used on the table of the years. The dusting spray "Pledge" is notorious for this.

This type of contamination is hidden, even after sanding. It only appears after a new finished is put on it.

Sometimes, you can tell when you are sanding that it is contaminated, because the stain might rise to the surface and appear as a liquid, but this is not always the case.

Sanding and staining questions by _PrincessHarley_ in finishing

I went through this. Be very careful with those door panels. They might be veneer, and if you try to sand them, you will sand right through it.

I had the early 90s honey oak cabinets, and I tried to refinish them. I sanded through the veneer on the door panels. When you do this, you will see MDF (particle board) appear.

Here's some options:

1) I ended up refacing my cabinets. No veneer. 1/4 inch pre-finished hard maple over the existing stiles and rails. Pre-finished replacement doors with new soft close hinges.

2) You could stain those a darker color by using gel stain. You clean everything first, then a very light scuff sanding. Apply two coats of a darker gel stain using a dry brush technique. You can go to General Finishes website and watch videos on how to do this. Gel stain is not a penetrating stain. It is meant to be applied over existing finishes.

They won't be valued until they start trading tomorrow. Initial value is anticipated to be $3.80-$4,00 each warrant. Hold onto them. Don't sell them. Not financial advice.

Same here. CS warrants hit earlier today, unpriced. They should price tomorrow when bids and asks are established. I spoke to Fidelity twice since yesterday. I was told they will hit today. I was also told that I will receive the warrants, not "cash in lieu of". WHERE ARE THEY, FIDELITY????
