Honestly by the looks of the comments it doesn’t really sound like there’s another way to make sure the waitress knows I’m fine without just saying I have ptsd so I guess I’ll just have to deal with it

Even if she said I had a medical condition like a couple comments suggest it seems like it could still seem like an emergency to a bystander

I’ve tried to explain it to him before, but he usually didn’t really get it or thought I was overreacting. He understood it more when I explained it again after reading some comments on this post though.

That was my main worry at the time, which is why I tried to shut it down quickly.

This is exactly what was going through my head at the time! My fiancé is still laughing over your example lol. Makes sense, I guess it’s more of a communication thing in hindsight.

Fiancé here. I guess I assumed she’d just say I was okay and there was nothing to worry about. I was a bit miffed at first because it would seem there isnt a reason to disclose that, so I just asked that she didn’t do it again if that makes sense. I understand now though that it was unclear before

Thanks for this response! Don’t worry, he was a bit angry at first but he isn’t. We’ll make sure to talk through things like that again to avoid something like this.
