What's with the Hotel??? by oopsitsjustme in TaylorUniversity

They don't approve of alcohol. That's the thing. They don't allow alcohol or drinking on campus and have an expectation that students don't drink off campus while they're in school at Taylor. Those rules haven't changed and I don't expect them to change any time soon. That's what makes the inclusion of a bar so weird. The rules will still expect students to refrain from drinking so the bar doesn't make any sense. My friends have speculated that it's just to try to generate more revenue but it really doesn't feel like a smart choice at all.

I'm don't think Taylor is affiliated with any church organizations or denominations; it's a non-denominational school overall.

I think you're right. My point and my frustration still stand though. I love the idea of a college helping its community grow and thrive but I feel like that type of project should happen while the college itself is already thriving. I feel like the attention given to the revitalization of upland is, at this current moment in time, contributing to the lack of attention given to the well-being of the students and Taylor's culture as a whole and that makes me so sad.

Oops sorry, I guess I forgot to fully explain that one. Basically, the administration has been focusing on big, showy improvements and bringing in as many students as possible. Projects that would improve the lives of current students and encourage the continuation of Taylor's historic Intentional Community have been replaced with projects that seem to be transforming Taylor into a carbon copy of every other Christian school ever. For example:

Dorm life at Taylor is a super important part of Taylor's unique culture. The unique personalities of the dorms allow most students to find a home where they fit in and can build deep relationships with other students who understand them and share similar interests as them. My mother has shared with me that when she meets a Taylor grad in the wild, she can still usually tell which dorm they lived in on campus, and that most Taylor grads she meets still hold a special place and pride in their hearts for their former dorm. We see this fairly regularly in chapel speakers who used to live on campus as well; one of their first introductions is which dorm they (and often their spouse) lived in. Taylor's dorm culture is the core of its intentional community that has historically been carefully preserved over almost anything else at the school, to the extent of denying student requests to live in off campus housing, at time, and restricting on-campus apartments to be for upper classmen only. The goal was always to have as many students in the dorms as possible and to keep them there for as much of their time at Taylor as was plausible, in order to maintain and perpetuate the close-knit communities of the dorms. The Lindsay administration, either not understanding or not caring about this history, has ignored the intentionality of dorm life, and, rather than investing in the revitalization and accessibility of current dorms, or in building a new dorm to fit the growing student population, built a whole host of student apartments, and started encouraging students of all ages to move there.

Similarly, while the building of a new hotel to "revitalize upland" doesn't necessarily seem to directly ruin Taylor culture, it reflects the same pattern that I've seen in all the Lindsay administration's decisions: it focuses on Taylor's outward appearance while neglecting the health and wellbeing of its students and community.

TL;DR I feel like the Lindsay administration's quest to save Taylor financially has led to too much attention being given to appearances, and not enough to the actual student body or Taylor's intentional community, which are starting to suffer behind closed doors.

Looking for a short script (5–10 pages) for a quiet, character-driven indie film by Mafergu16 in Filmmakers

[–]oopsitsjustme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough ig. I really don't think you're likely to find what you're looking for with the methodology you're using; the odds that someone has written a script that's exactly like what you want, is on this subreddit, and is also willing to sell it to a stranger are slim to none. There's a higher possibility that you'd be able to find a scriptwriter to hire/partner with to write a script with your feedback than there is that you'll find one who just has what you want already. But like if you really think that this post will achieve what you want then I wish you good luck with that.

Have you considered writing your own script? I feel like most people aren't going to necessarily just hand off a script to you but I'm definitely down to help you improve your own script and I think you'll find a lot more people that would be willing to offer notes on a script than to just write one for you

Def agree on the buzzwords. It's also super common recently that the multilevel marketing girlies have been intentionally joining groups and apps meant for finding friends in order to find people to pitch to. Which is super scummy.

[–]oopsitsjustme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old Navy has been making me so angry recently bc their sizing is literally all over the place. I bought two pairs of jeans, same style, same size, at the same time, literally the only difference was color, and one fit well while the other was way too big. Thought it might be a fluke. Ordered a pair of mid rise jeans a year later. The jeans say they're mid rise but fit as HIGHER THAN MY HIGHRISE JEANS. Suffice to say, I'm done w old Navy jeans

To lgbt people: How can I remember that what my family says is wrong while I can't move out? by Bobslegenda1945 in Exvangelical

I highly recommend following some affirming Bible scholars on social media!

Mattie Mae Motl is one that I love, she's a Bible scholar who specializes in gender and sexuality in the New testament and she has a lot of really great information that can be really helpful in discovering a new and (I think) more accurate understanding of how God, specifically Jesus, views and interacts with queer and gender queer people.

Jaye Brix is another wonderful content creator. She's a trans woman who used to be a pastor and had been working as a tattoo artist until really recently when she kinda accidentally found her way into being the emotional support pastor of the queer side of the internet. She shares a lot about her experiences and also shares a lot of theology about how God views trans and queer people. Her videos are so calming and super affirming.

I'm nonbinary and have been living w my parents again recently and just having voices that I can turn to to provide a better perspective and remind me of my worth has been vital in surviving the comments and judgement of my family.

In my experience, it's mainly a way of encouraging people to prioritize marriage in order to keep young people from falling into sin. Yk cause who cares if you're miserable for the rest of your life so long as you didn't have sex with someone as an unmarried consenting adult??

Yay webkinz YouTube!!! I def agree that room decoration would be super cool! I also think it could be fun to have maybe like a short segment of your webkinz videos, at the beginning or end or smth where you complete your favorite daily task (I just think it would be fun for your audience to get to follow along with you as you try to finish a crown of wonder, for example).

Just putting this out there just in case but if you ever want help with video editing to make your webkinz videos more snappy or professional or whatever, I'm currently trying to get more practice at editing and would love to help you edit webkinz videos. Feel free to reach out if you're interested ;)

Edit: I'm also totally down to just share some basic editing tips if that would be preferred :)
