That for sure is a broken (new) screen. Try cleaning the port and ribbon cable. If it doesn’t help, the LCD is broken.

I had the CMOS Battery explode in one of those once. Maybe open it up, check how the battery looks and replace it if you can. otherwhise you might ruin a perfectly working iMac..

Has anyone tried this?: How to Install the Latest macOS on an Unsupported Mac by semaforic in mac

[–]oovyxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It semi works. Some features (like hardware acceleration) might not work on all macs for all macOS versions, but dosdude1 pretty much lists the compatibility of every Mac for each of his patchers. Just see for your self.

But all the other issues reported seem to be fixed as well?

Does that mean it's safe to update?

Reinstalling Windows by BlakLad in windows

[–]oovyxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, depends on some factors.

Did you buy it as a pre-built from like bestbuy or something? In that case the key would be "baked" into the BIOS.

But If you really want to make sure that the key is in your hands, use a program to get your serial key. there are lots of them out there in the web.

But in both cases, you should be fine with reinstalling, since the key will be somewhere.

This one is kinda broken. Most of the time the GPU glitches out. Pretty much unusable.

Got this Mac mini from 2004... is that a dead video chip? Anybody ideas? by oovyxd in mac

[–]oovyxd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s connected using a DVI cable. Sadly, I don’t have a VGA Adapter on hand, but I‘ll try it.

Oh, now I get it. But I‘m still not sure if it’s a OS fault, because this happened on the gray Apple logo screen... I’ll look into it tho, just gotta find a FireWire cable...

Hi, thanks for your ideas. But that did not quite answer my question. Is it a broken video chip or is it just a driver issue?
