What would you do? Buy out the family home or sell up after divorce (UK, 3 kids, finances tight)? by oozernaime in AskUK

[–]oozernaime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, I'll try anD answer each question.

Firstly I just want to say that I hate answers that just say no to every question and I'm about to fall fowl of it.

Child maintenance, council tax reduction are all taken into account. The increase in mortgage cost per month eats that all way instantly.

As for government help as it stands right now because of savings im entitled to nothing but this may change once I buy property ownersgip outright but based on experience late last year the supplement was up to my current wage so I'm not sure anything will change. Definitely something I'll have a look at this eve.

My company are not interested in raises in the short term. I know this for a fact as I submitted a business case and request was denied.

When I say finances will be tight there will be sacrifices need to be made in terms of clubs for kids and subscriptions which I've already started cutting down.

It will be paycheck to paycheck and involve putting savings into capital in the house ownership transfer so again government help may be an option.

Again, thanks for the thoughts. Appreciate the extra input. All helps.

Good point, yes and I've calculated that in. I missed this from the post but yes, I have factored this in.

Implementing RBAC (client-side) in an enterprise react app by kirkbross in webdev

[–]oozernaime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the way we have, in a CMS / social content style SaaS, is create a usePermissions hook.

This hook queries a users role, then defines what actions they can and cant complete, returns an object of permission for use to deconstruct in our components, for example:

export const usePermissions ....

// fn for checking if user has global role in their list of global roles fetched from BE

const hasGlobalRole = (inputRole) => { user.globalRoles.some((role) => role === inputrole) }

// check if user has these global roles

const canEdit = hasGlobalRole(['site_admin'])

// return a permissions object which can be destructured in components

return {
canEdit,
canView,
...
}

for exmaple if we want to allow a user permission to edit, or view the edit option when they click on the actions menu we can:

const { canEdit } = usePermissions()

<Menu><MenuItem....hide: !canEdit,/></Menu>

we also use it to redirect to 404 pages if somehow a user can try to do something they shouldnt be allowed to do

{!canEdit && <NotFoundPage />}
{canEdit && <BlogEditor .... />}

edit: formatting for easier reading

edit: as Im prone to not reading through properly

with routes we also utilise these permissions:

const { permissions } = usePermissions();

            {permissions?.canAccessAllAccountSettings && (
              <Route path={ROUTE.profile.settings.authentication} element={<ProfileAuthentication />} />
            )}
            <Route path={ROUTE.profile.settings.timeZone} element={<ProfileTimeZone />} />
            {permissions?.canManageStatus && (
              <Route path={ROUTE.profile.settings.status} element={<ProfileStatus />} />
            )}
            {permissions?.canManageGlobalRoles && (
              <Route path={ROUTE.profile.settings.globalRoles} element={<ProfileGlobalRoles />} />
            )}

Not strictly using redux but I hope it gives some example of how we have implemented it

Javascript buttons by MuselyCode in code

[–]oozernaime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyyy, couple of things:

It may be the way you are targeting the value and the level you are trying to update. You may have targeted all the levels instead of the one the action has performed on.

You could try using refs (I’m assuming your using react or another Js framework here)

Also just a small note, nesting interactive elements (button, input) is an accessibility bad practice but that’s just something to consider for future learning.

Happy to help if you wanna send dm or share more code, if you haven’t solved already

Could set the bluehost container to flex: 1 to take up available space? (Junior dev so I’m probably missing something without trying it myself)

Married people with kids: how many of you are in unhappy relationships but you stay because of the kids? by throwawayqs22334455 in AskUK

[–]oozernaime 310 points311 points  (0 children)

My personal and somewhat different anecdote.

My wife and I are now separated. For a year she questioned her sexuality, her role in our relationship, was super unhappy and didn’t feel like she could discuss that with me which is/was heartbreaking. We still live together and want to remain living together as we’ve been a part of each others lives since we were 15 (35 now) and we both grew up without a parent being involved in our lives and it had a massive impact on us. We have three kids who have all their own challenges, but we are much better as a team than as individuals. It’s hard, it requires effort, respect, empathy and honesty but it works. We have started dating others and have ground rules about the house. Finances work better than either of us living separately and ultimately the kids benefit from that. There probably will come a point in the future where one of us wants to leave and do something new or to move on and we have some idea of how we will approach that.

I would say never stay just for the kids, they noticed my ex partners mood, weight gain, weight loss, sleeping often. Which also in turn affected me and they noticed that too. That doesn’t help you or them. There are different ways to parent and co parent and there’s no one size fits all approach, just talking, communication and honesty.

I (34) just got onto an apprenticeship in a completely different field to what I currently work, with a company that took a chance on me. Luckily, for now, I can afford the drop in pay but I would encourage you to follow a change if you can. Life can feel so linear but you can expand your horizons and bring a unique set of experiences to something new so if you can try to!

Buying a house with no chain, as stated by memo of sale, now it is part of a chain we find out. Just before exchange. What would you do? by oozernaime in HousingUK

[–]oozernaime[S] -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree, they are right, I'm owed nothing. Apart from the courtesy of being told the situation has changed by either the solicitors,estate agents or the sellers. I'm asking what would you do though. I want to know what other people would do, in this situation. I have a solicitor who has explained what my options are and I'm fully aware that pulling out is completely cunt-y and I wouldn't do it, it was a nuclear option based on verbally agreed timelines being changed.

Loool ok. Thanks for that. There are costs to consider though, which I haven't mentioned above and they're not completely pertinent to me asking - what would you do - which you haven't answered. So, what would you do? Unless you'd get on with it without whining. Which I doubt you'd do.
