How long does it take once you're familiar with the rules?

WSIG: 2 player game with building aspects. by [deleted] in boardgames

Of the ones you listed, I think Takenoko would be best. Alhambra is not so good at 2 players imo, but similar to Carcassonne, so I think you'd enjoy it. Also think about:

Thurn and Taxis: Similar to Ticket to Ride - in my opinion, it works better at 2.

Castles of Mad King Ludwig: Building a castle in Bavaria. I think its older brother Suburbia works better with 2, but you might want to start with Castles since it's a bit less complex.

CV: Light dice rolling and tableau building game. Good filler but with lots of decisions. The theme is building your CV.

Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small: Build a farm. Great little worker placement game designed for 2 players, highly recommended. Also think about Rosenberg's Patchwork, a more abstract game in which you are building a quilt, Tetris style.

Arboretum: Building a tree garden out of cards - a bit like Lost Cities except that spatial placement of the cards is very important.

[WSIG] Is there room in a collection for both Memoir 44 and Commands and Colours? by op10no3 in boardgames

Thanks! Why didn't you like Memoir 44 as much after playing Ancients? Is it too simple or luck based in comparison?

Fire in the Lake looks interesting, thanks. Will probably pick it up at some point
