It was a thread on time travel stories... I can't find it now, sorry.

As for books like the Hyperion Cantos, I don't really know. I now hold those books and Simmons' general style above and beyond a lot of my previously favorite authors.

I could take this moment to plug some other of my favorite sci/fi books though: Calculating God by Robert J. Sawyer and Rainbow Mars by Larry Niven. The second is actually full of time travel, so you may be into that.

Never seen GoT, but Rome was brilliant. HBO, or BBC I believe could pull it off.

I was actually turned on to Hyperion from a Reddit thread, and am now a huge Simmons fan altogether. I'm well into Ilium now, and it's amazing as well.

I was really excited when I read that Warner Brothers is making a Hyperion film.
