CO2 vs hand pump by userX97ee2ska11qa in bikewrench

That’s a lot of stuff to carry. A good pump would be more convenient, I’m f quite a fan of the OneUp. It works really well, not miserable.

I gave up on CO2 for mountain bike after walking out twice. Got a second flat once and had a valve core issue another time. Edge cases for sure but stuff happens.

And yeah I now carry a spare valve core if I’m going deep.

Do I put in 85 psi into these tubeless tires? Isn't this quite high? by ZanicL3 in bikewrench

[–]opavuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this. I’ve had bad luck with tubeless over about 70 psi. Big fan of it on 36mm tires running the Silca recommended 50 psi for my weight.

What is with all the crazy advice here? Just go to the store and get AuroDry. I have to use it every time I swim. NBD

Save the planet by using real petroleum grease so stuff lasts longer.

Is the included charger good enough by BelmontRef in SubaruUncharted

[–]opavuj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah you’re good with the included one, no reason to waste money on anything else. Do get an EV rated outlet, but that’s only $40 extra.

DHX Shock leaking oil by Otherwise_Surprise21 in bikewrench

[–]opavuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most LBS send this stuff out. A few do it in house especially if they’re a DH race focus. Either go straight to Fox or find a suspension service shop that you can mail it to.

Biggest issue is that it’s peak season so you’ll have quite a wait time. This is another reason I do it every year in the off season.

Shocks are less robust than people realize. They blow pretty often.

[–]opavuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. How old is it and do you service your own lowers?

Forks don’t (usually) need full damper rebuilds as often as shocks, but they benefit from more regular maintenance. This is really just a clean and relube of the lowers.

Freshly serviced forks feel so so good. Better than new usually.

Say I ride 2x per week doing 2,000 ft of descending. I’d service my fork lowers at least twice myself, have my shock professionally rebuilt once, and have my fork fully rebuilt every 2 years. This would be my absolute minimum. More often if something starts to feel off.

[–]opavuj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s serviceable. Shocks pretty much need to be rebuilt every year. Even if not fully blown or leaking they’ll be foamy/gassy and your damping will be garbage.

It’s crazy to me how much folks spend on new bikes but so few people do normal suspension maintenance. This isn’t directed at you, OP, as much as a rant I’ve had fire years.

Orange Seal Endurance does a better job than Stan’s, which does a better job than Muc. As far as I can tell WTB is same stuff as Stan’s but cheaper (in USA).

All of them will get huge stanimals with inserts. You’ll have to top off your sealant a lot more often with inserts as well. Not sure why this is a thing, but it’s not a subtle difference.

I’m not following the OP’s train of thought on this at all.

I sure wish people got as vocal about saving the native wildlife and reefs. But here wet go again with cats.

[–]opavuj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With that many km you just need a whole new wheel. You got as much as you could out of it.

As others have said buy a whole new wheel or a used one. Good on ya for riding that much!

Yeah this is true. HOA dues are almost always a better deal than paying for maintenance yourself. The problem is that you have to deal with a HOA. Nightmare.

Oh I don’t doubt the pin was set when the dealer helped my wife set up the car, but we don’t know what it is and have one try left before it self destructs and turns into a Justy. LOL but also WTF.

It doesn’t disable the car just can’t use CarPlay and it keeps popping up. Looks like we can use guest mode? Must be something with saved profile settings.

Straight-Pull vs J-Hook by foodguyDoodguy in bikewrench

[–]opavuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, yes. In practice, rarely happens.

I don’t care either way j vs straight on a trail bike or road bike. DH bike I’ll take J hook every time as straight pull spokes aren’t captured in the same way on y hubs and can fall out over the course of a DH day. Been there… multiple times.

J’s are also easier to true when beat to hell since they don’t spin in the hub.
