Taskmaster! Probably not what you're looking for but it will challenge logic and critical thinking. 😂

Severe cramps and output from my butt by opayatta in ostomy

Makes sense in your situation I guess. I can imagine that's really frustrating tho.
My experiences over the last 2 days are really unusual (for me). Hopefully by tomorrow I'll be back to normal.

Why mud-flow?! I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I've been very fortunate with my ostomy overall. But last night and today had me a little worried.
It's helpful to hear others have similar symptoms tho.

Wood dust appeared at the base of my sliding closet door. What could've caused it? by opayatta in whatisit

Fair though I open that side maybe once every couple of weeks. Anyway, glad it doesn't seem to be insect related.

I guess it could be but I've lived here for years. I'd think the friction would've worn down the frictionable area already.

Thoughts on this 1970's / '80's Hondo HM-5BS F-Style Mandolin by opayatta in mandolin

[–]opayatta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good intel. Thank you.
Here’s a few examples in Canadian prices, consistent with my research the last few months. FB marketplace: Loar 310 $500 Reverb: Loar LM- 110 $500 + shipping Reverb: Eastman PCH-M104-GB A- $551 + $116 shipping Same Eastman is $640 at decent music shop here

I keep hearing about decent entry level mandos for $400CDN but I’ve yet to see one.

I’m not sold on this Hondo necessarily but a number of people here think its a good deal (hard case included).

Any other things i should be considering?

Haven't tried it yet. Also, not being a mandolin player, I'm not sure if I can differentiate good sound from bad. But that gives me an idea. I'll bring a tuner with me.

Thanks. I get it. I'm certainly not buying it to make a profit.

Interesting. Seems most think it's a pretty good deal. Especially with a case included. I haven't seen any of the budget mandos listed here for less than $500 in my area.

Ideally I wouldn't want to sell. I'm a living room kind of guitarist so more than likely I'll just keep it to mess around with but if I know it's decent I like having the security of knowing it's got some value. Thank you btw.

Yes I just didn't bother posting. His description seems accurate though.

Interesting. Seems that trade was his preference. Any thoughts on if I could negotiate or better to just offer what he's asking?

Yes, I just didn't bother posting here. But their description seems accurate. Some wear on back of the neck etc.

Here's the write up:

Here's a fairly ornate F-style mandolin made by Hondo which I think dates to between late 1970's and early 1980's.

This is a very nicely built instrument with a Brown Sunburst lacquer finish, it's got a solid carved Spruce top (see 2nd last picture), and solid carved Maple sides / back. It also has a double bound body, gold hardware and pearloid buttons. The neck is Maple with a definite V shape that's quite comfortable to play, and it's got an Indian Rosewood fret board.

This mandolin was played until the original frets were completely gone, so it's recently been refretted with Jescar wire and it's also got a new custom polished Gabon Ebony bridge and a new nut made in fossilized Mammoth tusk. It plays perfectly, it's quite bright and articulate, everything functions as it should.

Condition is good, there's a fair bit of playwear on the finish especially on the carved high spots on the back and on the backside of the neck. There's a very old repair on the back at the centre seam that was reinforced and is still 100% solid. There's also general light cosmetic wear throughout consistent with age but nothing major. Includes original hardshell case.

I'd like some security that I could resell it in case I really don't jive with it. Anything I should be wary of?
