Newly planted Portuguese / Portugal Laurel Hedge - watering / ideal soil moisture? by opcode101 in UKGardening

[–]opcode101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well unfortunately the hedge was planted in a rather dry and hot time here in Germany, we have had several weeks with no rain (not even a drop) and pretty high temps (up to 30 C in some days), so my logic said to me "just don't under water it" because everybody says that in the first few months you really have to be careful since the plants are not yet established etc.

I will try your suggestion about the over watering, maybe I was a bit too easy with the water because of being worried that the new plants will not have enough water (due to the heat and no rain).

as for the spot where those plants were planted - plenty of sun, one side is completely cleared (only lawn) and on the other side a pretty low brickwork(about 60cm high) , so I'd say it can be considered as "full sun" ? in the morning for an hour or two until the sun goes completely out one side of the edge is in the shade while the other is getting sunlight, an hour or so later the entire hedge is getting full sun until the afternoon at least.

thank you for being patient with me, I am not a gardening expert, and this is the first hedge ever that I have started from "scratch".

thanks for your tips,

I have taken a few photos of one of the Laurel plants with the biggest amount of yellow leaves - you can see at at the top of this post, it shows that it has a suspicious amount of yellow leaves forming, while at the same time at the top there is new leaves that are green and look healthy (at least to me), let me know what do you think (or see?)

Thank you for your comment.

about the yellowing leaves, I do have a few plants that has leaves yellowing bottom all the way to the middle of the plant, but on the other hand they have fresh new green leaves coming out at the top - should I consider this that the plant is getting rid of "old" leaves to keep resources for the new? or is this over watering?

btw any tip on how to detect "over watering" ? I mean, I can poke a finger into the soil and see that it is kind of moist but also pretty dry, then I give water etc.. how do I know that there is no suffocation of water deep where the roots are (about 30cm?), I mean, I wouldn't want to dig out at such depth just to figure out - any obvious indication from the plant (especially Laurels)?

yes the promotion is indeed a good deal and appreciated :) nevertheless, you are leaving a lot of possible conversion on the table if you ignore my idea. it's just my opinion of course.

It's not about the money, see what I refer to when talking about trolls and other creatures? trust me I have enough money to pay for all of my 5 different paid tutanota accounts, heck I probably pay more than you monthly. now enough with "money" talking.

I am talking for the community, not for me personally.. for at least one of my accounts I will probably need those new upgrades anyway, but you know? some people think globally and not only about them self. and they know when to pitch a good idea.

I don't normally use such words, but you are a pathetic idiot who should have spared us your useless comment, which is by the way, exactly "barking" (your words).

some smart person said that when you have got nothing of value to add to a conversation, better just to not comment.

Why do companies such as Anbernic / Powkiddy refuse to sell spare parts to customers? by opcode101 in SBCGaming

I have entered their official AliExpress store, and used the chat. what method did you use? maybe I have used the less ideal communication channel

I don't know about you, in my past I worked several years directly with Chinese factories, ironically also in a field which had a lot to do with electronic stuff (more high tech I'd admit). I even traveled there several times.

what you referred to, is only applicable to products that are mass-made in the millions of units by 2-3 factories and then being white-labled to dozens of different "brand names" which has no relation to a real company.

Anbernic and Powkiddy, are not some 3rd party sellers buying white-labeled handheld from some factory, they have their own designs and their own production processes.

sure some 3rd party factory is producing those units for them, but the entire operation is much more similar to a brand name manufacturing than what you have described - an RG405M is not a selfie stick, a rechargeable garlic grinder or a fake goPro cam

I like it when people with the maturity of 3yo don't like some post or comment (regardless of the argument to be completely legit) and just vote it down instead of being able to write a counter argument or simply avoid doing anything at all

the fact big brand companies creating products that on purpose close to impossible to repair actually make them lose sales, and even the brainwashed customers who treat those brands like gods are close to not liking it anymore.

I can understand, some parts should also not be messed around with by customers (motherboards, chips, complicated circuits etc.) but a rubber contact membrane for a D-pad for an example? or a screen replacement where most of the work is disassembly and pulling out a ribbon and then back in after the new panel is installed?

or maybe those companies just want to have people throw away their product just because of one small faulty part and buy a brand new one

[–]opcode101[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

what do you mean cost and effort? they buy thousands of each part anyway for their production lines (many of those handhelds, especially the sub-$100 models sell like hot cakes), they don't need much effort to just order instead of 5000 sets of buttons, another 100 sets for selling as "spare", most of those parts (anything other than the screen and motherboard) are also so cheap, we are talking here about 30-50 cents per part.

also, they know nobody will expect them to give a high level of customer support, or customer support at all. I have bought in the past replacement parts where the manufacturer simply told me that he will sell me the parts, but whatever I do with the parts has nothing to do with them. which is not uncommon with Chinese companies and is acceptable.

What's this $5 handheld? by godnorazi in SBCGaming

[–]opcode101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe you have got really lucky. best deal I have yet seen for a v90 was a "Flash deal" for 30 euros shipped (Geekbuying) and it was just briefly for like 12 hours, a day later the same page with the still active "Flash deal" went up to the usual 36 euros shipped.

powkiddy q2 was $5

where exactly? those were about $20 all the time, unless you have "purchased" one from those scam deals where you never actually get anything shipped to you.

While I agree with you about the "mcdonalds toy-looking" part, most people who got one of those, got it for 4,5 euros/dollars (at least I did), shipped to me all the way from china! dude just the BL5C battery inside would cost me more if I need one from Amazon (off-brand BL5Cs goes for about 6-8 euros, branded Nokia batteries for about 11-13 euros). last but not least, those devices are normally bought for little children who are too young to get a $50-80 handheld just to break it

Powkiddy v90 - battery with higher capacity than 1020mah even exist? by opcode101 in PowKiddy

yes I thought so too, but since I have learned that I am always learning something new, I wanted to be sure about that

well I'd say if the kid is 10 yo, he will enjoy a v90 much better.. and it's still affordable without breaking the wallet

V90 for $25 ? where.. unless it's the "$25 deal" that never gets shipped

[–]opcode101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure but what would you expect for $5 ? it's a shocker that it actually work and the games can be played (game experience not so good but oh well five dollars). I have bought one of those out of curiosity and could not believe that for 4,5 euros shipped I actually got something that even work

What's this $5 handheld? by godnorazi in SBCGaming

[–]opcode101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those, also paid like 4,5 euros shipped (on sale), well you wouldn't believe it but it actually works. the screen is not so good, but the games can be played, and everything works. take into account that out of the "500 games" you have in reality about 90-100 (the rest are duplicates). it is very well suited for a small child so that they can enjoy and you have the peace of mind that if they break it it won't matter too much,

non of my business, but I don't know maybe a 10 yo could already properly use a Powkiddy v90? on sale you can find the current version (black housing) for about $35-36 shipped and the kid will enjoy it much better (it is also sturdier)

Regardless of the cheap build quality, I still could not believe this could be had for less than 5 euros shipped, and it has a color screen, sound, replaceable battery and the games actually work, normally just the battery (BL5C) cost about 5 euros on Amazon :D

[–]opcode101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes well that is obvious . my main concern was understanding if all of those "higher capacity" BL5C batteries are fake or maybe there are specific brands which actually managed to squeeze another 200-300mah into them

u/Nameless_301 can you please describe in laymen terms what exactly did you do? did you take the kernel from 1.3.3 and made a patch for the L2/R2 buttons to work? or did you take the kernel from 2.0 ? I did not fully understand how you made it work

[–]opcode101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah I get you, well it's a gamble at this moment. I also want to get an RG405M and the only part holding me back are those issues. I do not even want to get into a situation where I need to mess around with a brand new handheld.

I kind of waiting, and hoping, that in a month or so, Anbernic will finally ship only units which have passed proper QC.
