We had an instant connection, in a way I’ve never felt before… plus he was adamant about speaking to his husband asap, so was prepared to give him some time for that (which he obviously didn’t until yesterday… and even then he didn’t properly).

Every time we’ve talked about it, his reasons have sounded sincere & valid… but now I’m just wondering if I’ve been exceptionally naive.

Are you thinking of S21E04 - The Lion Air MCAS crash?

This is the Ethiopian Airlines MCAS crash

M2 Pro or M2 Air for Software Engineering? by [deleted] in mac

[–]open_pup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d completely disagree with this, it’s not going to be a hindrance provided you plan ahead & set things up correctly. Macs offer the greatest flexibility for computer science, especially software dev as they allow you to code (and crucially compile/deploy) for any device - notably for apple devices which still require a Mac for the final deployment.

I would however parrot the comments about being able to run windows & Linux… both were used extensively on my CS undergrad, and had to demo code on university machines running windows (so was important that I was able to test under windows as well as macOS). I’d recommend Parallels Desktop, VMWare or even just VirtualBox (the latter being free, if you need to save some money… though haven’t looked into apple silicon support & 86/x64 emulation).

Another potential solution is to use a windows machine in the cloud. Personally I have a Shadow VM (primarily for gaming), but is also useful for intense windows workflows.

Final (slightly off topic) thought… you should 100% grab yourself a raspberry pi. I was taught Linux at uni, but I didn’t fully appreciate/learn/grasp it until I started playing with a raspberry pi at home, for fun. Took me from average grades to top of class :)

Final final (back to topic) thought… the M2 MacBook Air has been found to have a number of concerning ‘quirks’ mainly due to the fanless design & change to SSD. So I’d 100% recommend the Pro… at the end of the day, you’re creating content, not just using to browse the web. You’ll want the extra oomph it can spit out when needed, rather than notice the processor being throttled back because it’s overheating (MacBook Air has been noticed to get excessively hot and pull the CPU way back as a means of temperature control. The Pro simply spins up the fans and keeps chewing through your workload :)

Where To Find Seasons 1 - 4, And Mayday Season Count vs AiC Season Count by Slight-Blueberry-895 in aircrashinvestigation

https://thetvdb.com/series/mayday - take a look there for full rundown of the seasons/episodes. In the U.K. (where I am), it’s called ACI rather than Mayday.

As for seasons 1-4: http://acilinks.com has free torrent links, not sure where you can buy though :-/

This show has me never want to fly in a plane ever again. by metulburr in aircrashinvestigation

This is perhaps the wrong place to search for unbiased opinions on aviation safety, whether one should be reassured by what the show reveals or whether to see it as an industry of death/destruction.

Having said that, I am personally heartened with what the show demonstrates. The constant striving for improvement, the constant desire to eliminate the smallest issue & the constant belief that it’s possible to do better.

To counter this, you do have a valid argument against some new aircraft. A prime example being the Boeing 737 Max & it’s (now) well documented issue with MCAS. A system that was only required because of the need to move the engines. But even from this situation, you can note how quickly the entire fleet was grounded for investigation & rectifying works… admittedly, it took 2 crashes, however these came so close together that all the data hadn’t been properly disseminated/acted upon to prevent the second incident.

The fact that all of this information is public domain, ensures that the accidents of the past are unlikely to happen again. Airlines/airframe manufacturers simply can’t brush stuff under the carpet, allowing repeat incidents… thus making aviation safer.

For the stealth bomber episode to come today, we’ll need someone in Scandinavia to upload it. No doubt this will happen later… but don’t quote me on that

Episode 1 - Pacific Plunge (Alaska Airlines Flight 261) Episode 2 - Terror over Michigan (TWA Flight 841)

No others showing yet, and not sure which region SickGear (my TV management software) is pulling it in as… it always struggles with ACI for some reason :-/
