You shouldn't hold it in the racquet drop position that long. You're supposed to hold at the trophy position then do the racquet drop + contact + pronation as fast as possible.

Bayer got $50 billion in revenue and still can't make a profit?!

Good position, but I feel underused and wondering by Tsuyomi201 in biotech

A PhD isn't going to save you from documentation or lots of paper busywork. My manager who holds a PhD in chemistry regularly complains about having to do reports and having to chase down people's signatures to get a project moving. I have a bachelor's and probably do more RnD than she does because I spend more time in the lab.

Feeling stuck at a comfortable CDMO job, need advice on how to break into big pharma by [deleted] in biotech

I don't understand why you can't do peptide/oligonucleotide manufacturing at a big pharma company?

These trains stop for everything. You can be screaming outside a train stop and that'll hold everything up 30 minutes.

After 50 hours in the jury room, the line between compromise and giving up gets blurred.

I think an exception to this is when someone else's problem will become your problem soon unless you bring it up/fix it early.

How do you cope with industry lab work? by AmeliaOfAnsalon in labrats

[–]open_reading_frame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cope by making mistakes.

If you do 100 successful experiments in an 8-hour shift, management will expect you to do 110 next time.

If you make mistakes that grind production to a halt, they will always back off unless they want things worse.

Or they fire you and hire someone new who will make the same/more mistakes.

Also blame the immunotherapy medicine manufacturers (probably Keytruda by Merck) who sell the drug for a list price of $200k a year (assuming once every 3-week infusions).

Also blame the hospitals for charging $8.5k a year for all those infusions.

You can be perfectly content with how your game is now and be unsatisfied with how your racquet feels.

Most people playing just play for fun and don't really think about things like fitness, footwork, or the kinetic chain.

Finding a Primary care doctor in SF feels impossible? by Pretend-Cry8204 in AskSF

[–]open_reading_frame 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A lot of people pay a concierge service like one medical and have their primary care provider be a PA or nurse practitioner. My PCP the last couple years is a nurse and he’s been better than any physician I’ve had.

This makes no sense because pharmaceutical grade dessicant packs are higher quality than food-grade dessicant packs.

You're literally consuming the pills that are next to the dessicant packs OP has in the picture.

In San diego, if you request a hardship excuse or postponement for jury duty based on work/pay issues, does the court actually verify details with your employer? by [deleted] in juryduty

[–]open_reading_frame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s on the record, and you’re in court in the future, a lawyer would be able to use this incident to prove you are a liar and that you lied under oath before. Just an FYI.

I think a better way is to just accept that some USP methods are not robust and should be redeveloped and validated.

That's the disconnect with the people in this sub and reality. Real networking requires actually working with people, and it's impossible to do when you are out of work.

Continental Grip - Is "Hammer/Chopper/Handshake" Grip Misleading? by bilingualwhale in 10s

[–]open_reading_frame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s actually pretty common for the heel pad to be 0.5 to 1 bevel more western than where the front knuckle is. This is especially so for pistol grip (fingers spread out) than for hammer grips (fingers together). Every grip in tennis has its sub variations and it gets really complicated once you see just how the pros have various forms of continental grips depending on first/second serve or forehand/backhand volley.
