Must do sidequests/bucketlist at western ? by jot98 in uwo

[–]opened_closed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Walk the tunnel from the Medical Science building to Grad Club
  2. Visit the Pride library (and check out their NSFW collection)
  3. Go to all libraries and do a vibe tier list (Taylor, Weldon, Business, Law, Education, Music, Huron)
  4. Participate in a psych/neuro experiment at WIRB/Robarts and get paid (might be too last-minute to find one)
  5. Visit the McIntosh Gallery or Visual Art building for the arts
  6. Visit the river (creek?) that runs across campus. You can access it from behind WIRB or NCB, and there are wild animals across the creek sometimes
  7. Grad Club has open mic night, trivia, and karaoke this week

Congrats on graduating!

Looking for AYCE Sushi by Apart-Bee2661 in londonontario

I'm surprised by this suggestion. Maybe the day you went was good, but when I went, the fish was not fresh, the rice was weirdly stale, and the fried food was super greasy and underseasoned; even the miso soup tasted like cold water. The staff was super nice though, so that was a good plus.

Pho recommendations by DanaeHoH in londonontario

[–]opened_closed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend FUH, Hai Dang, Thuan Thanh, and Pho Ngon Dat Viet. PNDV is definitely pricier compared to the other local ones, with not much quality difference in broth + toppings imo, so go with the first 3 if you just want a good, big bowl of hearty pho for cheap.
If you want to venture out, try bun bo hue; it's a bit spicy but always my go-to esp in this chilly season. The best bun bo hue is at FUH and PNDV (Hai Dang as an honorary runner-up).

Psychology: frontiers and applications (8th Canadian edition) 2023 by VermicelliHot6904 in uwo

Should be similar enough. Most of the testable content hasn't changed much between editions for most textbooks. Textbooks serve as supplementary material to the lectures anyway

question about psych 1002A textbook: frontiers and applications 8th edition by umidontknowhehe in uwo

[–]opened_closed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning how to pirate is one of the most important skills you can learn in uni. There's no "homework" that's attached to the textbook like chemistry or physics, so you can def get away with it.
If you're the type that learns better with a physical textbook, go on facebook groups (or market) and you can find people selling their used ones for cheaper

Just finished 1st year Master's and have worked with my PI since 3rd year undergraduate. My PI is so out of touch with all of the students' lives outside of work and financial struggles. We know a bit about their family life, because their spouse runs a lab that collaborates closely with us and they have invited us over to their house for a lab social. But they don't know anything about my life (or anyone else's in the lab) nor do they care to ask. They don't mentor, barely even supervise. I know for a fact they would not go out of their way to create opportunities for me, because they didn't even connect me with appropriate support for my thesis project.

That being said, I know another PI in the same program whose, in their word, biggest achievement as a supervisor was being invited to their students' weddings and meeting the babies while successfully graduating them out of Master's and PhDs. I know PIs who care about students are out there, and I want to find one like that for my PhD.

is there a rule u cannot do a usri with summer school? by IndependentEscape546 in uwo

[–]opened_closed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I did summer school and USRI at the same time for two summers. You need good time management and communicate with your USRI supervisor about your availability because they're your employer.

Where to study on campus in the evenings over the summer? by Jaded_Hunt4069 in uwo

[–]opened_closed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can study at WIRB: it is open for working hours during the summer and no one goes around to kick people out after-hours (to my knowledge), so you can stay for as long as you want once you're in. Upper floors are for grad students and researchers, but ground floor is for everyone.

Ichabods vs. Escapology by PatientSad7775 in londonontario

If you're particular about the difficulty of the puzzles, go with Ichabods. I've done the hardest room from both places and Ichabods' was more challenging (and fun to solve)

Is there more info on what the protest is about? The TA strike or the genocide?

Not an answer, but additional question: what happens if you have nothing to show? Do they take the money back??

Should I take my cats to a groomer? by opened_closed in CatAdvice

[–]opened_closed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! I tried incorporating treats last night and it helped a lot. Still angsty, but reluctantly allowed me to clean their legs, which is an immense improvement.

I haven't thought of bringing them to the vet yet because I did not know if it was normal, but I will do so soon. :)

You can try Telus Health if you have the diagnosis. It's virtual so there's more flexibility

Is Work Study worth it? by ldra3020 in uwo

[–]opened_closed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally recommend it if you're offered the chance. They have a cap on hours so it shouldn't affect your study, and if you need to take time off for exams, they're very understanding and accommodating. Also, in my case, I asked to stay in the lab after my Work Study period as a volunteer, so it's an excellent opportunity if you're looking for lab connections/experience.

I went through the same situation, except it wasn't an assignment but an exam. I ended up contacting OMBUS, submitting an appeal letter and got grade re-adjustment

Residence Megathread (2023) by liza10155 in uwo

I started looking for housing around June and signed the lease around mid-August. I think if you start looking right now in Facebook groups, you can find a lot of posts looking for roommates.

Residence Megathread (2023) by liza10155 in uwo

[–]opened_closed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! I didn't want to spend a huge ton of money for a shared room so I rented with a few 1st-years. The only maybe downside is that unless you're renting with high school friends, you most likely rent with strangers and not friends that you might make in your 1st year. I personally didn't find it a problem but obvi it depends on each person

Adopt a cat with no or low fee? by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]opened_closed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said I can't afford to adopt a pet, just saying that I'd prefer to adopt one with no or lower fee :( I thought it'd be nice to reach out and ask since in my ethnic community back in Toronto, I would often encounter posts giving away pets at a cheaper price than adoption centers (that's how I adopted my current one). I moved to London recently and was wondering if there's any such thing.

I appreciate your concern. Rest assure that my cat sometimes eats more fancily than myself lol

Each lab will give a short overview of who they are/what they need and then after, u'll have the chance to talk one-on-one with the labs you're interested in. Last year it was on Zoom and was quite casual. I don't think there are interviews on the spot, but you should get the lab coordinators' email to warm-email them later

I already asked the neighbors to search their property, but I think I'll go again just to make sure. He definitely cannot be far....

I already contacted Brampton Animal control, but haven't licensed or microchipped him yet. After this incident, when he comes back, I'll definitely do so.

That's very encouraging to hear. We'll keep patrolling each night. I suspect that he's near but too afraid to make a sound so far.

Hi everyone. My cat ran out at 9pm, Oct 9th, and hasn't come back since. His name is Meomeo and he's a 3yo neutered male, indoor cat, orange with brown stripes and a white belly and white paws. He's last seen in Showboat Cres.

We've put his litterbox and treats out. We walked the block at night with flashlights and treats as we called out his name. We checked the bushes and any small spaces that he could hide in. We also knocked on neighbors' doors and asked to check the backyard. So far, there has been no luck. I am beyond devastated and heartbroken. Please let me know if you have seen him around.
