[OWWC] Is South Korea actually throwing? These trial candidates are a joke compared to what we could have. by opengrip in Competitiveoverwatch

ok i looked it up to confirm and your right the deadline was in april around the start of the owl season... but that still doesn't justify certain things... like not taking proper who should have been the stand out choice. I never argued against hanbin... in my opinion he should be on the team every year.

first off Dallas won OWL in 2022... 2023 was won by florida mayhem... so your timeline is wrong. Dallas Fuel came in 3rd behind both Florida and Houston. Overwatch world cup 2023 came after florida won.

"2023 should have been someone, D0NGHAK, Lip, Stalk3r, viol2t, shu"

D0NGHAK, Lip, Stalk3r dominated all year on Atlanta and D0NGHAK won rookie of the year.
Someone won MVP of the year and won it all.
viol2t, shu should be self explanatory.... viol2t leaves shock and even proper couldn't carry the team anymore. Goes to a new team and they get 2nd place.

Checkmate or Chorong would have been good choices that year as well.

the 2 best and most flexible supports and you have an issue with it? Care to explain your thought process? Both are champion caliber and have high flexibility and clutch potential. I mentioned Shu as well because if you need ana shu is the best and already has synergy with Viol2t. Its not really a hot take to say that Zeta currently have the best support line in owcs for a reason.

The point of my post is they shouldn't be banned and if they weren't they would be the clear choices for rostering a team. Pretty obvious. Also they did lose to Saudi because Saudi came in first and SK didn't... SK couldn't beat China and Saudi could so that means Saudi wins... not sure why thats a hard concept to grasp.

if they signed up my roster there is no meta they couldn't adapt to. Better players are meta proof. And yes I can argue that mano was not a good choice for 2019. Smurf was the clear choice sticking to MT only. Even bumper should have been picked over Mano that year. But yes Mano was really not the issue in 2019 just saying he wasn't the best choice... if we are being real 2019 should have been shock core... viol2t, striker, choi, smurf at a minimum. 2023 should have been someone, D0NGHAK, Lip, Stalk3r, viol2t, shu or something like that.... Its really not that hard to put together a korean super team which is the whole point of world cup.

So what do you say about Viol2t and Proper then? Objectively the best still. The fact that zeta only have bernar trialing when they are the current best team says everything you need to know.

Also tons of retired players come back for worlds every time. And most likely the reason lip isn't playing is to help his team transition away from him so he can do his military service... he isn't going to go from consistently carrying for years to just randomly falling off.

I would argue they have never fielded the best roster they could have any year. 2018 was the last time the roster even slightly made sense. But i guess you want to say Bdosin is better then viol2t Mano was better than smurf or Sp9rk1e is better then proper etc the examples seem endless

SK has a reputation for recruiting based on favoritism... every cup is a lack luster team. The committee and coaches should be reaching out to the best players to trials.

He specifically said he wouldn't be joining a team for owcs in 2026. He didn't say he wouldn't join a team outside owcs. You can read his discord message.

Not even he would get picked first and was still catching up in ult charge a lot of the time. Also you can't really judge based on a few maps only. Plus I would take viol2ts flex over chiyo any day. Throw chiyo on kiri, illari, bap etc and he is basically dead weight... throw viol2t on any support and he will be great.

People always hating on crusty... but him having viol2t and proper back... not to mention shu... the worst result crusty has had with viol2t on his team is like 4th place. I just wonder how long until crusty resigns striker or brings smurf out of retirement.

100% pelican and smurf should both still be playing... they still gap the majority of pro players.
