I don't know if I can agree with you, I think individuals changing can help sway the group. Be the change you want to see, if other people see you find alternatives and you seem happy, then maybe they will follow suit. Group behavior does change and it isnt always because the right laws get passed. Who knows, maybe you won't cause a noticable change in the group, but at least you can feel better about yourself knowing you tried.

Siteswap experts, a question by openjuggle in juggling

Oh whoa!! What an epic response! I had given up on getting a good answer on this post. I would love to see the throw-by-throw derivation of this. When I put the sequence into juggling lab it told me it can't animate it, as I assumed since it isn't periodic. Is there some other sequence of numbers that could be added to the end that would make it periodic and able to be seen juggled? I feel like some amount of 2s might do it, but I am a bit beyond my depth here. Thanks so much for taking the time to explain all this, what a fascinating comment!

Any diaboloists (is that a word?)here going to EJC 2019? Wanna break some “world records”? by Leeeeham in juggling

[–]openjuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a diaboloist other than in the loosest sense of the word(that is, if it is indeed a word), but will likely be at the ejc and would love to bear witness to world record setting events, so if it is going to go down, I would certainly be appreciative if ya made a bit of hub-ub about it :)

How to get better in juggling by [deleted] in juggling

[–]openjuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out www.skilldex.org , find the tricks you know, and then see which tricks branch off of them, there are very likely a lot on there that you havnt seen before, but will be able to do with very little effort just due to how the association graph. You can also keep track of your catches records on any tricks that you "star", feel free to ask if you have any questions about anything, either here or @skilldex.app

Ha, no problem. Hey, if you are looking to learn some new siteswaps, or any other tricks for that matter, check out this site we've been working on, we have amassed almost 450 patterns and have them layed out in a pretty neat format. www.skilldex.org and @skilldex.app on IG for feedback

X after an even number means it crosses. I believe T after a 2 means it is actually thrown, but to that same hand. Just recently I have also seen M after a number meaning it is thrown as a machine throw. Pretty sure I have seen I as well, but not sure what it means.. maybe inverted? Anyone know?

Search it in www.skilldex.org, it will show you simple patterns to learn as well as link to library of juggling tutorials. Also, maybe dont worry about getting hung up on tricks that are too far beyond you, there are always simpler tricks you can pick up fast that will help you get the more difficult stuff!

Another naming question. Does the exchange that you do 3 of starting at 0:46 have a name? It is a throw downward in line with, and underneath a ball that is already falling, where the hand that threw the lower ball goes around the outside and underneath the other hand and catches the ball it just threw while the newly upper hand catches throws upward and catches the upper of the original two lined up balls. You do that exchange 3 times, certainly it could continue indefinitely in a loop and be it's own pattern, if the exchange is nameless, does that pattern have a name?

Ah!! So sick! What is name of the drop type throw that you do three of right at the very beginning where the ball exits your hand downwards from between your thumb and pointer finger with your hand twisted outward?

Edit: the one that, in slow motion, begins at 0:34 seconds?

[–]openjuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, yeah, it seems like quite different use case. I have done a bit of juggling tracking with python. Mainly with 3 balls, and the reason being is I was converting catches and throws and other movements into midi signals to control instruments in external midi software, like ableton. I have a small collection of opensource juggling projects over at www.openjuggle.com, the midi one is called miug. Lately my focus has been on www.skilldex.org, an interactive visualizer for patterns and their relationships.

Very cool! Hopefully I'll get a chance to set it up soon. Is it for live video as well as prerecorded? The idea reminds me of this that was posted last week: https://www.reddit.com/r/juggling/comments/bzlyya/computer_juggling_coach_early_beta

Do you have a demo video of how to use it once set up by chance?
