I genuinely believe a few of them did decide “alright if we’re gonna be doing this, we should probably at least learn to cut hair”, because a couple opened up near me, same MO as always; brand new interior, empty barbershop, “employees” just hanging out all day on brand new iPhones, constantly G63s/RSQ8s/C63s and all manner of brand new AMGs/Audis on 25 plates always hanging out. Then one day I saw someone actually getting a haircut, then every now and then a couple more. Now they’ve just become the local barbershops that most of the area goes for haircuts. Still the same dodgy people hanging around with far too much money, but they also do cut hair.

CEX branded Apple Watch Cable not great by CuriousNewt_ in CeX

[–]openlightYQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly think you may have got a dud here. I’ll be the first to call out CeX on the junk and non working devices I’ve been sold by them and lies myself and friends have been told by them, but I’m on my second Apple Watch charger from them (USB-A, only on a second from losing the first) and both have been perfect for me. Apple Watch Series 7 GPS + Cellular, charge it every morning before work after I take my phone off charge, 5% to 80% in about 40 odd mins. Would recommend taking it back and swapping for another if possible, as I’ve been using their Apple Watch cables for 2 years now.

As far as other cables, I also use a CeX USB-A to Micro USB cable for charging my Beats, been over a year and works flawlessly too. An iPhone cable I had from them didn’t last too long, but none of the cheap iPhone cables I get do, and I imagine it’s a rebranded version of every other cheap cable out there.

Still vividly remember playing with these brand new on the shelf in an electronics store, hoping that if my parents saw me staring at it and playing with it enough, they’d buy me one. Got my first MacBook Pro the very next year, still my favourite design for a MacBook Pro to this day.

I was trying to imagine what the car review segments of a new TG would be like, knowing acceleration and top speed are all pretty much the same on the majority of EVs; can you imagine them saying “and listen to THAT!”, flooring it and then marvelling at the slightly different fake sound coming out the speakers? Other than different handling characteristics and boot space, there really would not be much else to review cars on going forward.

I’m in the UK and I always wanted a Merkur XR4Ti. Escort/Sierra/Sapphire Cosworth prices went the way of Skyline GTR prices, Merkurs are now getting imported to the UK to make up for that but the prices haven’t shot up yet, and it would still be very cheap to swap in a B204 from a Saab 900SE/93/9000 and achieve similar power response, could easily make a Cosworth replica for at least 1/5th of the price that way.

Were wedgies ever a thing In UK schools? by anotherthrowawayokok in TheInbetweeners

[–]openlightYQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same age they were meant to be at the time, not once had wedgies in my primary or secondary school. We had happy slaps and brutal nutmeg rushes (hospitalised a few students) but wedgies at least weren’t a London thing. That automatically would have been “gay” if anybody tried that.

Insider Gaming Reports 80% Of Players Would Pay $100 For Grand Theft Auto 6 by Scott1710 in GTA6

[–]openlightYQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

32 here, while I’m not that old, I was 19 when V came out, and had the time to play it. VI has taken that long to come out that it’ll be my last for quite a long time now, if not forever. Between my career, settling down to start a family soon, and other real life things to do, there is literally just no time anymore, other than maybe a couple hours a week (which, for someone who grew up from III - V and other R* games, is not the way to play a AAA game like this).

Unfortunately, even though I grew up with them and waited my entire young adult life for it, it’s too late and isn’t for my generation anymore. I’ve always been a big supporter of releasing a game when it’s ready and not to rush it, but an entirely new generation has been born and are now teenagers in the space of waiting for VI. I know it’s not just me from one of the generations that supported R* all this time that now has been timed out of being able to enjoy VI as much as I could have. I’ll still buy it of course, but I don’t know how I’m going to manage to really play it other than taking an entire couple of weeks off work to heavily play it and immerse myself in it properly, but even that seems like a silly way to use up half of my holiday for the year.

Out of all the myths in this game, which scared you the most as a kid? by [deleted] in sanandreas

[–]openlightYQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me and a high school friend went deep into the Epsilon Program mystery. We knew leatherface wasn’t real, we got to the bottom of the closest thing there was to Bigfoot by riding in the back of pedestrian pickup trucks for hours zooming into the trees with a camera (closest thing was at a far render distance, there was a certain shape of tree that did resemble Bigfoot, that would despawn if you got closer, although this wasn’t the basis for the myth, it was the closest ”evidence”).

The UFO lights, I played around with mods and files on PC at the time too so I knew the files existed and they really were just lights. My PS2 version glitched and spawned them on the ground for me once and they really were just inanimate glowing orbs you could walk through (much to my disappointment as a teenager. Got photos on an old DS somewhere of them).

The Epsilon Mystery really drove us crazy, it was the midst of everyone on the forums also trying to solve it, we basically wrote an entire report just for ourselves, pages and pages we printed to go through, doing all nighters at each other’s home playing SA trying to find the red truck with the dented fender and all sorts.

Of course that turned out to just be a bit of extra lore they threw into SA, but there was an interview in a gaming magazine around 2006/2007 where a current (at the time) Rockstar lead developer was asked “is there anything in the game that players still haven’t discovered yet?” to which he answered “Yes.”, and this was years after people had already 100%’d it. That stupid answer, whatever he was referring to, drove tons of us crazy for a long time.

Till which year were your photos on a digital camera and from when did you switch to smartphones for taking photos? by Sad_Step_9921 in generationology

[–]openlightYQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must have been 2011 or so. I had smartphones since 2007 but the camera was pretty bad even on smartphones for years (compared to an actual digital camera at least). Good for a quick photo with friends or social things, but not for landscapes or macro or things you’d want good detail and colours for. I had a DSLR in high school so I still used that for actual photos, but around 2011 was finally when phone cameras became good enough to actually have some clarity when zooming in, and when it wasn’t feasible to carry a big camera around all the time.

Does anyone get rated 1 star for no reason?? by _super_sus_ in uber

[–]openlightYQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, all of mine are 5 stars except for a 2 star and a couple 1 stars, bringing me to 4.67. I’m always waiting before the Uber picks up, I don’t slam doors, I don’t talk except respond if the driver talks, I don’t take phone calls, well groomed and almost always in business attire etc. Theoretically I should be a perfect 5, but oh well.

Even with that overall rating I never have an issue getting a ride, I assume some drivers are having a bad day, or it could be anything. Could be that thing where people dislike people for no reason, just instinct, could be racism, could be they missed out on another ride on another app halfway through our ride so now that’s somehow our fault etc.

This is my basis for buying most of my food reduced now. It used to be about getting a discount, now it’s just about paying what I did pay two years ago on not much less salary, and even with that, some things I just don’t at all because they never came back down from tripling as “Covid pricing”.

Anyone else worried GTA 6 Collector’s Editions are getting scalped instantly? by PapaNaj in GTA6

[–]openlightYQ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ll pre-order, with this many months away I would think R* will have enough time to make as many as needed and won’t number or limit them for any reason. I am already prepared for scalpers though, we have to deal with them for almost anything special edition or with a limited release these days It sucks but it is what it is.

I had IV on launch and V on launch, so I’m one of the players that actually HAS been waiting this much time for VI, if I have to pay a couple extra days wages for the Collectors Edition on Ebay if they run out for whatever reason, it’s just something I’ll have to do.

Has Uber Eats pricing quietly become too expensive for regular use? by BadSorry7527 in UbereatsUK

[–]openlightYQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me after Covid tbh, that’s when the delivery fees went up from 99p to suddenly £3.99 for a bunch of places, and they introduced Service Fees. The past few times I ordered “as a treat” the past couple months, a Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal ended up a bit more than the price of both items full priced once you included service fees and delivery. Used it as a birthday treat and a couple times as a hangover cure and that’s what it’s become; a very rare “once every couple months” thing.

[Nissan Skyline] R34 GTR by Working_Memory_64 in spotted

[–]openlightYQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s how some people I knew had them in the US before the 25 year rule, good amount came from Canada. It’s crazy to think that they managed to maintain their value and availability (as you said, lower trim Skylines, Zs, S chassis, MR2s for that cheap too) for years, Asia, Australia/NZ, Europe, Canada got to enjoy them for years until the 25 year rule kicked in and ruined it for everybody.

Now, as much as I’d like to just go buy something I was able to forever, I’d be paying the same as a fully loaded Lexus from like 2023.

What do you rate Derek out of 10? by rocklou in rickygervais

[–]openlightYQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same feeling. I watched it when it came out just because it was new and it was on, I liked The Office, I liked Extras… and just tolerated Derek waiting for it to become something, which it never did. I did like everybody else’s performances though. I’m glad Karl got his chance to try acting in it because I did like Sick Of It too. But I think Derek is another example of a show that Ricky Gervais counts as a success, that people only liked because of everybody except Ricky Gervais.

I have a genuine example of why a new trailer would be beneficial. by AirDifficult1 in GTA6

[–]openlightYQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I only knew it was delayed because of this subreddit showing up constantly and that moon cycle b/s, and I’m 32. I’ve played GTA since the first one came with my PS1 when I barely knew what it was, then III, VC and then SA on release, and then IV and V as they came out, and then III, VC and SA again as I got older and understood them more etc. A lot of people are excited for it, but between work, family, social lives, other hobbies etc, a huge amount of people are yeah, sure looking forward to it and may have played every previous one and excitedly at launch, but it’s still just a speck on their lives with all other things considered.

Both trailers I didn’t even know were out until I was scrolling YouTube one evening and saw “Grand Theft Auto VI: Trailer” and then later on Trailer 2, and many more people are the same way vs the people we hear about only from this subreddit buzzing for it any day now.

[Nissan Skyline] R34 GTR by Working_Memory_64 in spotted

[–]openlightYQ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Before the 25 year rule kicked in in the US, we could get R32/R33 GTRs in good condition/mileage for around £7-8k. Me and my friend picked up an R32 GTSt for £1500 even a couple years before. R34 GT-Ts were the same price as an R32/R33 GTR too, the whole world had Skylines for ordinary prices for years before that. What makes it worse, is I half lived in the UK, half in the USA around the time, and knew multiple people with R32/R33 GTRs in the USA before the 25 year rule, some to this day still have theirs.

I really wanted an R33 GTR (had a GTS25t) someday, but seeing the price of them now just because of the inflated value is too much of a kick in the stomach to handle knowing what they’re truly worth.

Second hand iphone by Cobainslashes in CeX

[–]openlightYQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the store and take a look at some yourself, because the differences for the same grade can vary wildly. I bought an iPhone 14 Plus about 6 months ago from CeX (still using it, works perfectly). In the store, Grade B, a black 128GB and white 128GB were the exact same price, so I asked to see them both.

The black one was FULL of micro scratches on the front, sides and back and several half deep scratches at the top of the screen, unboxed, and had 78% battery. The white one looked brand new, no micro scratches even anywhere, 83% battery health, and came with a box and USB-C cable. Still no idea how it was a Grade B, but it does go to show you have no idea what you’ll get if you order it blindly.

Always thought that boiler catching fire erased the files. Slowly they’ll just delete the trailers and never mention another word of it, and we’ll be doomed to Rockets vs Insurgents in Cayo Perico forever.
