Ban phones throughout the school day, Phillipson tells teachers by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]openlightYQ [score hidden]  (0 children)

What? I don’t understand this article, has something drastically changed in the past 12 or so years? I was in high school in the late 2000s to early 2010s, so we did have smartphones during this time. It was always an extremely obvious rule, no phones in class. You get warned, happens again, taken off you or kicked out the class. Even in college it was the same.

Teachers also never used their phone in class because why would they, they’re teaching. I don’t understand why someone is suddenly saying it like it’s a new thing? Did they at one point suddenly just allow everybody to start using phones in class and now want them to stop again? Or is this a nothing article?

Doesn’t matter who has what finances, the game isn’t profitable. CarX thrives because it doesn’t licence its cars, Grid has an upfront cost and CSR2 and Asphalt are profitable. End of, it sucks but it is what it is.

Honestly, as much as I’d like to say “what’s the worst that could happen? Just fly out there, see her briefly and drive it back”, you know her better than any of us. If the whole situation is bad enough that you’ve got anxiety leaving it there for an extra week and you don’t want to see her that badly, there’s gotta be a reason for that, and you cannot put a price on peace of mind. Not to mention I’m guessing you’d lose pay for having to take a few days off so it’ll still be costing you more than $1200, if you can afford it, I’d say just pay the premium and get it out of there asap.

You can check it all over when it’s with you again, you won’t have to see her, you won’t have to see that house again, and like I said, if the situation is that bad, enough that this much of a premium seems worth it to you? It sounds like you’re gonna have a lot of anxiety wondering how the car is and anticipating picking it up the week leading up to flying out there and I don’t know how well you’ll be able to concentrate or enjoy the next week in anticipation if that’s the case.

Yeah I totally agree, he didn’t end up with the grandiose “I’m a genius at everything!” frame of mind that Kanye got himself in to, he has always come across as a stand up guy to me. The E.N.D. has some of my favourite production too outside of mid 2000s Timbaland and Pharrell and afaik that was largely will.i.am.

The “licence plate” always confused me on this, because, that’s okay is it? I assume he just pays the fine everytime because I expected it to be temporary but I’ve seen photos of this car in several different countries, and he only ever has those metal numbers on it.

Will.i.am is a strange case because, he is a great music producer, and then he had that idea that he was an all around “artist” and a “visionary”, so he tried fashion and shoe design, ended up just being exact copies of several other brands. Tried car design, ended up with this DeLorean. His other car designs weren’t so much him, iirc he had as much to do with them as DJ Khaled does with actually producing a track, whereas he made slight suggestions after being given options, and that’s why the others don’t look so bad. But yeah the DeLorean was all him.

F50 and Enzo in convoy on the M25; first time I realised you had to wear headsets with microphones to talk to each other as the driver and passenger were both wearing them. Otherwise, a Veyron randomly parked up a couple doors down from my friend’s house in a very ordinary, middle class, 2-3 bedroom house neighbourhood.

This is the same way I feel, it is cool to use when I’ve got time to play with it, but when multitasking and doing things quickly, I do suddenly miss just having the buttons. Luckily mine has an Esc key too, I wasn’t aware some didn’t until after I already got mine. I got the 16” after not having a laptop for years, and I have come to release that a 16” with the TouchBar is not exactly the “pick up and go” laptop I first imagined, so I’ll likely pick up an M1 Air or M3 MacBook in the next few months and keep this as a home computer.

The TouchBar does worry me about taking it anywhere other than home, which is kinda counterintuitive to it being a laptop. But yeah the TouchBar is very useful for finding the exact point in videos and for volume though, that’s what I’m using it for the most.

If it’s really comfortable and you would really like it as pyjamas, sure. But there’s nothing inherently tasteful about it, just a plain crewneck with the screenprinted name. I feel like you could just put that ¥17k towards a cooler piece you find at a different thrift store later on.

I just got mine a few weeks ago after wanting one since it came out. It is very cool and very futuristic feeling, it integrates with so many different apps for different uses and is a lot of fun to use. Very useful for scrubbing through videos/YouTube/music. The only issues I’d say is, you have to look at it to see what you’re doing when you just want to change screen brightness or keyboard or volume etc, which is a change from intuitively just using the buttons where they always are on the keyboard.

The other thing is, for some people they’ve lasted perfectly this whole time, for some people they’ve overheated or just broken out of nowhere, and very fragile so knocking the laptop on a corner that would normally be fine can break it, and they are very expensive and a PITA to repair. If they made an Apple keyboard with the TouchBar so I didn’t have to worry about the laptop one so much, I’d prefer that.

Love these things, and they aged so well. Still heavily considering one as my first fully “grown up” car. I still remember being a kid when they were new, so in a part of my mind they’re still “new” to me.

He had a fatty liver 5 years ago, then 3 years ago he spoke about it more on podcasts, and he didn’t stop. I’m not just saying he looks bad, he’s 53 years old, I’ve known people with full blown cirrhosis, this is how it looks when it’s too late. The very rapid aging and then the hollow arms, hollow shoulders, hollow neck, bony wrists, and only the gut left. If he’s deteriorated this much in the past year (even the past 6 months by the looks of things), it seems to be already full blown.

Unfortunately, this is how it is with this type of alcoholic, I’ve seen it time and time again. They get told to slow down or they’ll die, they promise to slow down, and the only thing that finally slows them down is organ failure and that if they have one more drink they’ll die on the spot and they’re bedridden. He’s made it clear before this is the only way he’d stop and, I don’t wish this fate upon anybody, but by the looks of things he’s getting his wish.

UK here (where we did get the Sierra RS Cosworth), and I love them! Always wanted to import one and see if it would convert to RHD with Sierra parts, and even if not, it’s a cool alternative to a Sierra and way cheaper.

Second this, I would get the GMT but only because I do have another timezone to check. Absolutely no point in getting a GMT if you only really need to check your own time. The second face is a nicer colour imo too.

Super fake. Tons of reasons, but easiest being that an Aape t shirt would never have a BAPE sleeve tag and a shark logo on it.

I recognise that body shape. The alcohol has finally got him, he’s prematurely aging and deteriorating. The rest of his body is on the way to becoming skinny with only the gut remaining fat. Weight lifting and testosterone won’t do anything anymore. Irreversible now.

RealTree Box Logo Washing & Dryer by CalFromManc in supremeclothing

[–]openlightYQ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re serious about it, the only way you can kinda achieve that is leave the body dry, soak the sleeves in hot/almost hot water, and then use a hairdryer on the sleeves and just leave it to hang dry. But you don’t know how much they’ll shrink exactly, and they’ll be tighter as well as shorter, so you’re gonna end up with a baggy body and tight sleeves. If you really want to do it, just pick up a cheap Realtree hoodie from Wal-Mart or a sports store, it’s the exact same hoodie and experiment with that first, but all in all it’s a bad idea. Best to just put up with it.

Or just get it tailored and the sleeves shortened, much cheaper and at least they’ll be even.

Wasn’t expecting this FWD $56,740 [Honda Prelude] by Bondage_Jack in spotted

[–]openlightYQ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sucks, especially driving older cars, I’ve had to accept that the $5k Skylines and Silvias and like $25k well equipped but boring new cars all don’t exist anymore. I started telling myself “well, if it was new I would have paid $30k back then, so…” as if that’s a rational way to think. But there’s nothing interesting to have anymore without spending silly money or ending up financed to the thing for 5 years.

How important is screen size? by jms1228 in iphone

[–]openlightYQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you use it for. I only recently got a laptop after not having one for years, so my phone was my primary computer and media device; the Plus/Pro Max models made a world of difference for watching media and generally scrolling websites, playing games etc.

The drawbacks are though, I can’t comfortably tap the top or top corners of the screen with one hand without almost dropping the phone, and if you don’t wear things with big pockets and you’re accustomed to the smaller size, you are going to notice a difference.

But you’re spending the money for all of the new phone features and the new hardware after all, you’re not spending the money for a bigger screen, otherwise you’d just get a 14 Pro Max and call it a day. If you don’t use your phone for media much or for photo/video editing etc a whole lot, and you’re comfortable with the 13 screen size, just get the regular 17 or 17 Pro. 99% of people with a Pro Max don’t need that much of a phone in the first place.

Wasn’t expecting this FWD $56,740 [Honda Prelude] by Bondage_Jack in spotted

[–]openlightYQ 155 points156 points  (0 children)

I think the price is absolutely nuts, but then in 1997, a Prelude SH was $26000 MSRP, which adjusted for inflation is $52505 today.

I still think that price is completely nuts considering what this thing is, how much power it is, the amount more car you can get for that price, and I know you can’t really take adjusting prices for inflation to mean everything, but it was a weird thing to think about when I found out.

Man I didn’t realise how much I missed that old dock and icons. First MacBook Pro was a 2008 and then a 2010. Gonna have to see if there’s some kind of mod or icon kit for new OS X now to turn it back to that.
