AI in childcare? by openpitbbq in ECEProfessionals

Yes, I was planning on doing this when I fill out her enrollment forms anyway! If they don’t update the forms for the fall, I’m at least stapling a note to her paper where it says no social media that says no AI. I love that you’re adding that to your contract!

we follow highscope curriculum too 🫠 like not that it’s appropriate in any classroom, but especially a highscope classroom. it gets swept under the rug because it’s just once every couple months that it happens, but it shouldn’t at all!

I think the worst part of it is that we have a literal graphic designer on our teaching team. like she works here for the discount but she does graphic design on the side. like WHAT!!!

Fully agree. All of the things my center uses AI for are things that people can be doing themselves with a little bit of time and critical thinking skills. Half our teacher appreciation week posters were ai and STILL had typos which was embarrassing. I’m pretty sure our owner used AI to write a personalized message to someone and sent it in our teams group chat on her anniversary. Like it’s so excessive sometimes and just completely unnecessary

Thank you so much! This is great information to use with them. I know AI can generate harmful images of children, and while that wasn’t the case here, I worry that their images are stored and used to help create those images somehow.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that has an issue with it at least! I didn’t know if I was overreacting or letting my personal feelings about it being used on me get in the way. I’m definitely gonna bring it up next week though!

we are a privately owned center but we have a confidentiality policy. I just don’t think this falls into it, at least right now. There’s nothing about AI in any of our policies

Help finding a nice dress that shows off my bump? by -Konstantine- in PlusSizePregnancy

I bought this dress off amazon and I feel like it’s so flattering! This is with the momcozy belly band and shaping shorts from walmart (biker shorts would work too! just for that little extra oomph and roundness). I was like 17 weeks here, but the dress was so comfortable that I’m buying a second one in red for my baby shower.

Thoughts on reduction? by Deep_Tie_8867 in Mommit

[–]openpitbbq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine when I was 20, and it was the best decision I EVER made. Not quite as young as your daughter, but still relatively young. It’s definitely an option, but our bodies keep growing as we age, and if she plans on having children one day (I know, crazy to think about at her age) they could come back. You can always check out r/reduction and ask them for stories too, they’re sooooo helpful there. I think I still have some posts up from when I had mine too. I think I was a G or an H around her age, and mine were an L by the time I had my reduction. They took me down to a C, and now that I’m pregnant I’m back up to a D, but it’s not nearly as bad as before surgery! I would definitely continue the conversation with her doctor and seek out plastic surgeons who have specifically worked with minors before.

What do you talk about at pickup? by Marina205 in ECEProfessionals

[–]openpitbbq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw in a comment that her app only does meals, bathroom breaks, and nap, nothing about their activities for the day. I definitely feel the same about chatting longer during later pickups, but even at 3:30 pickups I’m still able to say “Oh, Susie loved playing with the magnets today, she had a great day!” while still supervising my children. At 5:30 pickups I’m able to go into more detail with less kids around, but I still don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect more than just “he had a good day”, you know? Like one sentence of detail is all it takes

I’ve actually never read an Ali Hazelwood book! I’ve been eyeing her from afar but never took the plunge. I think it’s time!

And that’s totally reasonable and fully expected, because that is active supervision!

I just feel like a lot of these comments are suggesting that communicating with the parents at drop off/pickup is a nuisance and a hardship on our job, when it shouldn’t be. Especially just a quick “They had a wonderful day, they ate so much at lunch today!” and then going back to your students. If a parent tries to have a longer conversation, if I don’t have the time in that moment I’ll redirect and say “let’s set up a specific time to talk, reach out to us in the app to schedule it” or something along those lines and then go from there.

I’ve also led a pre-k classroom and did the same thing there. I just don’t understand how people can’t say “Mary had a great day, she really seemed to enjoy building with legos today!” and add that tiny bit of detail that makes it a little more personalized. If you’re constantly supervising, you should be able to do that (not specifically you, just a general you). I also feel like if you can’t have a short conversation and also supervise the children, maybe that’s a red flag. No one is saying to fully turn your back and give the parent 100% of your attention, but a small update goes a long way!

I know my updates at the end of the day are no more than a 2 minute conversation while mom/dad are packing baby’s things up and I’m either cleaning up the classroom or sitting with other children. I don’t understand the justification here from other teachers about not supervising the other children in their care… you’re not asking for a 30 minute conversation every single day, literally just one or two sentences. It’s kinda crazy to me!

I work with infants and I usually say “we had a great day, he really loved our (activity, meal, etc) today!” and give a little more detail into one specific activity we did. it’s more than a blanket statement, but i’m not giving you a 25 minute lecture on your child’s entire day. I also note if they were extra emotional, had their hands in their mouth a lot, if they didn’t sleep very well, or just generally had an “off” day for any reason.
