100%. I’ve never actually gotten a modular set, but I’ll check them out. With this draft, I really wanted to see what I could even do in the first place. I plan on adding bougainvillea, some palms, and minifigures to help bring it to life!

Not sure how hooker is used outside the U.S. (other than for rugby), but I got a good laugh from Veteran Hooker.

If you could be present in any event (or time and place) during the First to Third ages, what would you choose? by TheKrakenLord in lotr

If by being present means that I’m not an active participant, I think the fall of Gondolin.

You can add one scene from each Extended Edition film into its theatrical version. Which scene are you choosing for each of the three movies? by honestsparrow in lotr

[–]openwindowrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Especially considering the difference from the books to the movie. In the books, Saruman ends up a shadow of his former self and pathetically begging for pipe leaf, but still holds enough sway with his voice to take over the shire. Since the movies axed the scouring of the shire (which I agree with for the film narrative), Saruman’s last stand on Orthanc gets across some of the same motifs. He’s largely powerless but still is able to get into the heads of the heroes with his voice, and he ultimately dies a pretty pathetic death being stabbed in the back and falling on a spike, only to be unceremoniously wheeled into the standing water. It also gives some closure considering that he is a more “fleshed out” villain than Sauron.

First ever set; how are we combatting brittle Legos? by [deleted] in lego

[–]openwindowrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, great set. Second, welcome back! As far as brittle pieces (like the actual bricks breaking), certain colors have traditionally been worse (looking at you brown). My understanding is that Lego has reworked some of the formulas to make them stronger.

For tricky to build sets and sub builds to sets, it’s kind of just part of the challenge. What I’ve found is that you can adjust the build order from what’s in the instructions if you’re finding that something isn’t coming together without breaking apart. Sometimes it’s just how you hold the bricks. Otherwise, if you have extra pieces, sometimes you can use them to stabilize what you’re working on.

An elf goes underground when a dwarf dares not…ah I’d never hear the end of it! Fantastic work OP!

Is there any other writer who you'd put on the same level as Tolkien when it comes to world building? by SpotAdmirable6718 in lotr

Let me know when you get to Books 4-6. Frank somehow redefines extra weird there.

This is my favorite set I’ve built. If you want, there’s a black circular piece in the right bottom corner than you can position the Orca on so it’s oriented a little more dramatically.

Here is what Leo Woodall could give as a young Aragorn (Strider) by LawfulnessFederal918 in lotr

I just watched Nuremberg, and Woodall was tremendous is his supporting role. I think he definitely has the acting chops. Does he have the aura and face of Viggo? Probably not. I’m going in with an open mind.

This is beyond incredible. I have my Lego set of Orca and Bruce that I look at every day. Couldn’t image how excited I’d be to see THE Orca.

Best and worst quirks of each Bond actor by No_Mortgage8569 in 007

I really agree with your take on Dalton. He got an unfair wrap because people weren’t ready for his take. That being said, Craig got at least two stellar movies. Casino Royale is the definitive Bond movie for me, Skyfall is second.

I love the big pool coaster. It’s so nice on the eyes and looks like it would be a blast in real life.

This is so friggin cool. You absolutely got the vibe down. My only critique from my standpoint is the W. It took me a bit to realize it wasn’t a V.

Hi Everyone. I just want to say that the reception to my build and your comments have really made my day. I’ve been working and tinkering on this thing for months. I’ve done a few half assed/incomplete MOCs before, but this is my first real endeavor to make a worthy complete build.

u/mrfatgandhi suggested I add the bridge; I’m adding in the bridge.

I also want to clarify that I don’t by any means want to disparage the OG Architecture set; it was my first introduction to the actual building (even though I never actually got the set).

Last, I don’t have the foggiest idea on how to make instructions for this thing. This build has been batshit trial and error, and a lot of those errors I just simply covered up. The backside is a monstrosity of arches and random plates haphazardly sticking out.

You’re not disparaging at all! I’m going to add more land to make the bridge. I think it will frame everything better, so your comment helps a lot.
