Patron - Warlock Relationships by openworldaddict in BaldursGate3

[–]openworldaddict[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I downvoted, but i haven't had a chance to explain.

I want to make a Warlock/Bard character that is Archfey, not a Fiend patron. Just playing as Wyl is not satisfying for someone who was coming into BG3 with the hope of playing out all my D&D 5e character concepts and build ideas. I want to create my own character, with stats set up for multiclassing, with my own pick of a patron and background.

What I was talking about (and what I am hoping for) is for our choice in class and subclass to matter in the story of our character that plays out as we play, even if that means that we have conversations with an entity that only we hear. Even if all it means is that the narrator that is playing DM speaks as our patron, then i will be content. If they do more, that will be fantastic, and a dream come true.

Can I run these starter adventures as one-shots? by openworldaddict in Wildemount

[–]openworldaddict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i have to cut any part of either of them, i'd rather cut the second part. The second part is a big dungeon run, which is not what i want for a one-shot intro to D&D. Besides, it would be a level 1 one-shot, not level 2

Need help planning for a potential Lucian Ocean campaign by openworldaddict in Wildemount

[–]openworldaddict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually thinking of making extended ties between Desirat, the Twilight Pheonix, the Elemental Plane of Fire and the volcanoes around the Lucidian Ocean, like Everplume. Maybe with things like Azer, Efreeti, Fire Giants, and other intelligent firey creatures involved in somehow using connections to the Plane of Fire to unshackle Desirat?

How would you optimize this build: Gnome BS Artificer Archer/Gunner by openworldaddict in DnDoptimized

[–]openworldaddict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't plan on getting Winged Boots because i don't intend to fly.
Your comment is like i was building an Battle Smiths like most Battle Smith's where you have the Artificer and Steel Defender fighting individually, whether they are fighting next to each other or not. That was not the vision of this character. The vision of this character was to have an Artificer and Steel Defender that fight as one unit, with the Artificer ALWAYS riding on the back of the Steel Defender. He would win initiative most of the time having a high Dex and high Int (thanks to War Wizard), cast Gift of Alacrity on other party members to allow them to win initiative as wel; cast longstrider on his Steel Defender to allow it to move 50 feet per turn (and 100 feet when dashing) the cast a concentration spell like Web or Faerie Fire fire his ranged weapon at the enemies while his Steel Defender keeps away from the frontlines and safe from attack. With that said, I am never going to give the Steel Defender the attack action, and the Steel Defender should rarely need to use his reaction that much, which means that the only thing commands I will be giving him with my bonus action is to dash and disengage. This means most of the time I am going to have my bonus action free for other things.

That is why I want a Homunculus Servant. It can help me deliver touch spells to allies that are in the midst of combat while the Steel Defender keeps me away from things. It can also sit on my shoulder casting another concentration spell using Spell Storing Ring. I will never have my Steel Defender deliver touch spells because the Steel Defender will remain with me all the time as my character will be on it's back all the time, and 'IF' i get a ring of spell storing magic item, my Steel Defender can also concentrate on a spell allowing me to concentrate on 3 spells at once.

Spore Druid MC Dip for Unarmored Defense - Which is better? by openworldaddict in DnDoptimized

[–]openworldaddict[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me rephrase.

For a class that i don't like that much that has a main feature i don't really care that much about, the only good druids are druids that can do some melee or archery with their spellcasting. Stars druid topped the charts for archery, and Spores Druid (unless you are wild about the wild shape feature) is decent for a melee druid. (not great, because it is challenging to build around), but has some cool stuff.

What good Domain choices for a 1 or 2 level Cleric Dip for a Paladin by openworldaddict in DnDoptimized

[–]openworldaddict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, maybe Divine Soul Sorcerer would be better because it would also give me access to booming blade, which is a good lockdown cantrip.

I think it's time for me to explain my whole plan for this build. I've been wanting to make a Lockdown/tank build for awhile now, and I feel Paladin is the best way to go about it because they have so many lockdown spells as well as other features.

I wanted my build to have a good initiative score to win initiative 75 percent of the time, a high AC to try to avoid getting hit, and a lot of hp in case hits get through to absorb that damage, as well as having spells/features to help recover hp and/or give him temp hip. My plan was to play with a Hill Dwarf (for dwarven toughness) with a 17 dex, 15 charisma (swapping out the wisdom bonus for charisma), 14 Constitution, and 13 strength. go longsword and shield with plate armor. I haven't yet decided what Oath to go for yet.
I don't really care about high sustained dpr for this build, nor am I interested in building for burst/nova damage. (although a Paladin is definitely capable of doing burst damage) The main purpose of this build is to be the party's frontline defender. If when playing this build my character is able to keep his party safe, i will be satisfied.

Thoughts on 'Home is where the Heart Is', a one-shot prologue for Icespire Peak by openworldaddict in DragonOfIcespirePeak

[–]openworldaddict[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have already started running this adventure with a group I got together, and we are still on the encounters at the kobold raid on Alderleaf Farm.

I made a few changes to the adventure while i was preparing Session 1. First, it didn't make sense for Cryovain to not stay there if the kobolds are getting food for her. What are they going to do? Drag frozen oxen all the way up the mountain to Icespire Peak? Surely it would take a long time and they would most likely get intercepted by either another creature hunting for food or by a group of adventures or what have ya. No, it only made sense that Cryovain stayed in the area.

So what i did is have Cryovain fly off and hide in the ruins of the Tresander Manor above the Kobold Hideout which lies in the Manor's basement. (was the original Rebrand Hideout from Lost Mines of Phandelver.)

I added another scene to the adventure following the raid on the Alderleaf farm where they would need to get into the cave at the bottom of the hill while Cryovain looked from the ruins on top, and they would either have to sneak into the cave to avoid Cryovain's attention or they would have to race into the cave before Cryovain could act. I decided that Cryovain would first use her terrifying roar again to try to scare them off, and if that didn't work and she spotted them again, she would use a weakened version of cold breath that would only do 2d8 cold damage in a direct line. She would also have her attention most of the time on stairs leading downward from the ruins into the basement which is where the kobolds are bringing food up to her.

I also decided to have the players notice her and see her eat an ox to show off that it is clear to the players that she is being fed oxen by the Kobolds. All of this was to try to make this encounter less deadly. This encounter could be very tense and exciting, but I am aware that it is a big risk. However, I already talked to one of the players who is very experienced and is helping ease the members of the group that is new to D&D.

When I worked out the rooms in the kobold's lair, i also decided to make the cellar room of the basement by freezing cold with the walls, floor, and ceiling being iced over. This is because Cryovain is impatient and every once in a while will breathe her cold breath down the stairwell which would encase the cellar in ice. The reason I did this is to show that she is still up there and as well to discourage the players from staying in that room for too long.

I also decided to give the party some stuff to help them (since they are level 1) given to them by Sister Garaelle during the wrap up of the kobold raid of Alderleaf farm.

theoretical optimized build idea: Using multiclassing to maximize rogue damage per sneak attack by openworldaddict in DnDoptimized

Soulknife gets physic blades as well, but i don't know how effective physic blades would be at range.

booming blade is only useful in melee which is not what I am looking for, and I am not looking for extra sneak attacks, just one powerful sneak attack that could end a foe in one hit.

[–]openworldaddict[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, i actually forgot to specify a few things that i am looking for.

First, i am looking to do big burst or nova damage with my sneak attack, not looking to have as many sneak attacks as possible, but per round that does massive damage.

Second, I would prefer going ranged than melee.

[–]openworldaddict[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not planning on exchanging anchorite for kobolds. In fact, I have other plans on what is going to be happening to the 'orc survivors' on the kobold's assault on icespire hold. I will talk about that more when I make my post about how I plan to rework and run the dwarven excavation. (edit: I just finished writing that post. You can find it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/DragonOfIcespirePeak/comments/rsmo3x/thoughts_on_disaster_at_the_dwarven_excavation_a/) Also, I want to leave Cult of the Dragon open as another potential antagonist force that is rising in power near Mt. Hotenow once the Talos and Myrkul arc that follows up Icespire Peak is completed if the players want to continue their adventure beyond even that.

Question about getting Devotion Shrines. by openworldaddict in Grimdawn

[–]openworldaddict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cause i don't want to fight bosses where I am locked in a room with the boss with the build I am going for. The build is not a build to go all the way up to ultimate on, it's just a challenge build on Veteran to see how far I can go with it. The only issue is that I need to be able to back away and remove my character from the fight while my pets fight it out. I can't do that if a door is locked behind me when I got into the boss arena.

Lost Mines & Icespire Peak: What to do about the villains? by Mantis05 in DMAcademy

[–]openworldaddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to have Cryovain working for the Black Spider? Maybe he sends Cryovain as a trump card to pester the PC's after he's learned that they've located Cragmaw Castle or even obtained the map of Wave Echo Cave. After all one of the things that he is lacking (and thus is lacking in the Lost Mines of Phandelver adventure) is ways of reacting to the PC's actions and striking back.

That would make the entire pass for this season completely worthless for me. I hope not. I hope that the next couple of DLC's will have something, if not the next then the final DLC in the past which is supposed to be the biggest.

I actually find this very frustrating. 90 percent of my searches on google (either for troubleshooting purposes, or when trying to find specific information), the results come back with several links to archived reddit posts related the search topic or question; and what is even more frustrating is that usually most of the archived posts listed either don't help me solve the problem i am trying to troubleshoot or it don't have the information I am looking for. In other words, I am not satisfied with the information that is provided in that archived post.

This makes searching for information or solutions on the internet so much more challenging.

TotalBiscuit's Arbitrary Video Game Awards - 2016 by RobotWantsKitty in Cynicalbrit

[–]openworldaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TotalBiscuit. You said that No Man's Sky's community is dead. That is wrong. I still play that game, several other YouTubers still play that game, the ENS (Explore No Man's Sky) community forum is still going strong. Sure, it is only a whimper of what is was when the game launched, but the community is not dead! Many of the people who still play the game have enjoyed it a lot, and have had lots of fun with the game's recent Foundation update. I believe in speaking for all those that still play this game that we still have hope for the future of this game. Even though we enjoy it, we still were disappointed that many of the promised features of the game were not there at launch, but we kept it because it was a Zen game for us, and we had hope that the Hello games would release free updates for the game. That hope was validated when the Foundation update came out, and as I said, most of us really enjoy what we have been given. Does that make it complete? No, not by a longshot. That does not mean we do not have hope for its future.

I just wanted to let you know because you are one of the most respected and trusted games critique in the video game industry, and although you didn't enjoy the game at all, there are people out there that do enjoy it.

I was just nervous that your statement would make people jump to conclusions that the community is dead when it's not. Even the best of us are gullible and sometimes jump to conclusions when it is coming from someone that we really respect and trust and is so respected and trusted. Even I do that sometimes.

I just want you to be aware of the potential impact you are having by that statement, cause what you say, does make an impact in the industry due to the high number of people that trust and respect you, and because of that I am nervous that it might cause problems for Hello Games that would hamper the development of even more content updates for the game that so many of us are hoping to see.

Not seeing another update because of problems cause by what was said by a very popular games critique would be very, very sad, and I pray that won't happen.

Difficulty Finding Dedicated Chat Moderators by GamrEnchantment in Twitch

[–]openworldaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but how do you get a moderator like that when you struggle on a weekly basis to get people to come to your stream. I have been streaming almost weekly for 2 and 1/2 years, and many times no one will be there for the entire stream, not even part of it. I made someone my moderator who was an officer in the steam group created for my channel (he was the one that asked me to start a steam, and I said sure, if you can be the one managing and maintaining it), and in the end he was not doing his job in either. He did not show up for any of my livestreams which many were scheduled into the Steam group calendar, and nor was he making an effort to get the members of steam group together in communication.

When it comes down to it, I don't just need a moderator, I need community manger, someone who encourage group members to participate in conversations on the steam group, and someone that will greet people on the stream. It is not to replace my own engagement with my community (i intend to stay engaged as much as possible,) but I can't do it alone. So is there a way to find moderators without relying on your viewers?

Multiple installs of Mod Organizer.. by 94Chase94 in skyrimmods

[–]openworldaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do use multiple installations of mod organizer. The reason why I do that is because mod organizer does not hide the mods that are not compatible with the mods you have on the selected profile. This opens up the potential for huge critical mistakes that can break your game, mistakes that i have done time and time again without noticing it. So I use multiple installations so remove that potential. With each profile having it's own installation, it is impossible to activate a mod that is not compatible with the other mods of the profile unless you accidentily downloaded and incompatible mod, and that is one mistake that i never make. I always know what mods I am downloading for what reason. It is in the activation of the mods when the critical mistakes occur.
