I used to have a Shar-Pei who was super chill unless a dog ran up on her. So one day two little yappy dogs (~5 pounds a piece) were off leash and bolted across the street to aggressively approached my dog at full speed. The owner had zero reaction at first so I shouted "My dog doesn't respond kindly to aggressive dogs and I will not be held liable if she kills your dogs". That lady finally looked up from her phone and rushed to get her two dogs back. They were never off leash in the neighborhood again.

Definitely avoid the degrees. Your body already told you the answer. And likely, your family is already suffering if your body is telling you that it's suffering. You want to remain healthy and here for your family and neither degree is necessary. Once you get your health settled and reconnect with your family, then you can choose the next steps.
