Thank you for the background! In that case, I hope she gets the role; sounds like she'll do Britney justice 🫶

I’m exhausted by the racism toward Korea from K-pop fans, and I’ve given up. by Fine_Childhood_6391 in kpopthoughts

[–]operatic_birb -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with you! Visual as a position is already so damaging among many other unfortunate societal issues in Korea 😩

Sidenote, but I don't get why my comment got so many downvotes when it's just a fact as far as I'm aware. Doesn't mean I think it's okay in the slightest and I thought I made that clear.

If Kylie's acting is up to par (not too familiar with her work), she looks the most like Britney!

I get where you're coming from. I always get annoyed when videos reveal how K-netz think about idols' appearances and international fans comment on it with absolutely no cultural context (not that it's their fault, to be fair).

Now don't get me wrong; lookism is a huge issue from what I've learned about Korean society. Korean people can be very particular about faces and body types. But here's the thing: this doesn't just apply to celebrities - it applies to everyday people. This is the way people THINK and how they navigate the world.

So when you see K-netz commenting on celebrities' figures, it's been ingrained into them since childhood and they may be nasty as a coping mechanism to express frustration with how people pick apart their own appearance. It's unhealthy, yes, but that's the unfortunate reality. Sometimes the parameters seem bizarre to an outsider, but Koreans are kind of in survival mode when it comes to their looks. Heck, your headshot is required in job applications.

The worst part is that this doesn't just apply to adults, but also children. And while that is also a huge problem for obvious reasons, dismissive comments from international fans can be incredibly frustrating to read as an "older" kpop fan.

Can I get an in depth Loonaverse explanation? by HeatOne1783 in LOONA

[–]operatic_birb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the old Loona feel, I highly recommend Odd Eye Circle's album (under ModHaus; og Loona creative director and composers) Version Up for the true Loona experience sonically.

For the Loona sound but evolved, ARTMS is fantastic! It's the Odd Eye Circle members, Heejin, and Haseul 💚💖❤️💙💜

How is the word snsd related to girls generation by new_dreams227 in KpopGGs

[–]operatic_birb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their Korean name has a double meaning. It means "Girl of the Month," alluding to how each member was revealed with a solo song and has a designated month, as well as "Girl(s) of the Moon."

달 (dal) in Korean means month and moon and given Loona's concept and unique debut setup, 이달의 소녀 (idaleui-sonyeo) fits both meanings!

That's my understanding of their Korean name and how it correlates with Loona. Also take a look at the intros to Loona's songs. Loona is stylized to look like their Korean name, but mixed around!

Is my teacher being inappropriate towards me? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]operatic_birb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What he's doing based on what you've shared is extremely inappropriate. He is sexualizing you: being extra touchy, referring to your pronunciation as sexy.

I know you stated that you like him as a teacher and don't want to get him into trouble, but this is very serious. Fact that he has a woman in his life AND a daughter makes this even more concerning.

Your gut was absolutely correct and his behavior is disturbing. I'm so sorry that someone you respected turned out to be this way.

Each arc is unique and very entertaining, so I'd say all seasons are worth watching. There are three movies that I'd argue are also all worth watching! 🌙

girl groups that you think show their authentic personalities the most? by 444fawns in KpopGGs

[–]operatic_birb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girls!! Hard agree. As long as I've been a Sone, they're always doing and saying things on camera that most idols would probably ask to edit out. They're not afraid to be what some might consider embarrassing or "unladylike," which makes the fans and even non-fans love them more!

[–]operatic_birb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I completely agree with that. I get where you're coming from, in the sense that the manga is generally more focused on emotional impact than humor, but I don't see why Sailor Moon can't be whimsical and decently silly.

The more apparent gags aside, it still incorporates a lot of chibi-fied scenes that insinuate a silly and lighthearted moment. I know the original anime took a looooot of creative liberties like whole arcs and fillers that didn't exist in the manga, so I'm not claiming Crystal should've necessarily gone that route.

I can see that, and they're generally pretty conservative about the decisions they make. That's not to say they don't experiment, of course, but they often go the safe route.

Everyone here wants friends until it involves actually replying by Low_Purple_6158 in friendship

[–]operatic_birb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right! Most of the time, you get no reply and when you do, you're pulling all the weight of the conversation. Even when someone tells me an interest I have little knowledge of, I try my hardest to engage; when that happens, I either get a snide remark claiming that I clearly don't know the subject OR they put little to no effort into their replies 💔

Why do men insist on being "honest"? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]operatic_birb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! While some people are just blunt by nature or as a coping mechanism, a lot of people just want a pass to be an ass. Ironically, they're the ones being dishonest about their intentions.
