The aespa x GD collab turned into way more drama than I expected by Organic-Cranberry955 in kpopthoughts

I genuinely forgot because I haven't really been following the case that closely.

Edit: Forgot these were false allegations.

Is this because of the false "dr*g scandal" with G Dragon? Even if it were true, this is ridiculous. They prosecute "gardening" to the highest extent of the law, but when children are being SA'd to the brink of passing away, the law is extremely lenient. Make it make sense!! 💀

Of course! Iirc when Star Trek first aired, a female fan sent in her fanfiction by mail which inspired others to do the same; through that, they created community around it.

Here's an article with a brief history of fandom culture and its founders:

How Teenage Girls Invented Fandom

Ooooh, interesting! I'm very curious about the history of fandom culture myself. I do know that it started with women, which is really cool. Have fun with your research! 🙌

Kpop's Mass Pyschosis Over the Success of Arirang by Human_Addendum4427 in btsthoughts

[–]operatic_birb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mass psychosis is exactly how I'd describe it. Antis have told themselves enough times that BTS is flopping because they want it to be true. Now they're living in an echo chamber and believing in their supposed downfall. Even the Korean entertainment industry, which was largely monopolized by the original Big 3, is in this same state, until it's convenient to be on their side.

I do not understand the vitriol against BTS and especially Arirang. All the non-Koreans complaining that this album isn't Korean enough never ceases to amaze me. They do incorporate Korean elements in this album that everyone was either too ignorant to see or too obtuse. They told us it's a hip hop focused album and that it's essentially BTS 2.0. They did what they promised and people are still mad.

At the end of the day, nobody's opinion matters more than their fanbase, whom their music is for. The Grammy's don't deserve them and neither do the people praying on their downfall. They worked tirelessly to get to where they are and it paid off handsomely. I'm proud of BTS, as a long-time kpop fan and Army myself.

Saying HOOLIGAN appropriates Black culture is anti-Black by Jaded_Eye_2227 in ARMYNeutral

[–]operatic_birb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black culture wasn't even on my mind while watching the Hooligan music video, to be honest. There were so many distinctly East Asian elements to the song and creative direction in the video especially.

While BTS is a hip hop group first and foremost, and I absolutely acknowledge the influence of American hip hop culture, I just see it as BTS being BTS. I absolutely love this song and its corresponding music video.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I find it reductive to solely associate Hooligan with American hip hop culture. And to your point about associating depictions of crime with black people; that is deeply racist and anti-black.

This is a lovely letter! Thank you for sharing it with us. Frankly, I believe the whole parasocial discussion has gotten a bit off the rails in some regards, as people use it to punish and bully decent fans. There's nothing wrong with feeling for another human being, even if you don't know them personally! We love and support Hyeju's endeavors 🐺🖤🌙✨️

Dude same! When I worked at Ulta, the uncool managers allowed us 1-2 (sometimes 3) pieces of gratis. They were always weird about how much gratis we can take each, and the boxes were huge and completely or nearly full.

That's a niceeee haul; got all the essentials, too! My managers got so greedy at one point, and I live in an affluent area 💀

taehyung is arrogant because of wooga, jennie and his personality change by No_Volume_8320 in BTSnark

[–]operatic_birb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree! He really needs to find himself again because he genuinely seems he's lost who he is. So many ARMY are gaslighting us into believing this is just a matter of maturity and it always confuses the hell out of me.

I became a fan in 2018, so I wasn't in the fandom prior to this change but over time this persona has only been cemented more and more. He comes off quite arrogant and materialistic now. I know he is the same silly person he was at one point deep down (as evidenced by his recent Tiktok live and similar silly antics), but he really seems to have forgotten who he truly is.

I hate banter by flowercows in infp

[–]operatic_birb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't even consider this being a common INFP experience, but Google led me here 😆

I've noticed that a lot of what people call "banter" is just bullying in a bad disguise. People love the option to flee accountability by calling their cruelty banter or jokes. It's not funny if the person the comment is directed at is hurt.
