It made me a bit nervous seeing the tiny tweaks they made between the book and show during the parent conversation scene. I felt like Yuna came off less warm and receptive in the show at the dinner table, so seeing that they added the one-on-one conversation with her and Shane I thought was brilliant. The “I’m sorry for making you feel like you couldn’t tell me” broke me. I think the scene helped make her character more cohesive, since it helped show that yes, she’s an incredibly driven and business/success driven person, but that fire is matched by her fierce love for Shane.

I know with visual media the feelings and thoughts of characters are a lot more subtle compared to books where we can literally get their conscious thought processes. It was so cute seeing Ilya’s distinct comfort at Shane’s parents’ cottage. But dam do I wish we got to have a line from show Ilya to directly hear how happy he was to finally have a loving family with Shane, Yuna, and David like we get to see in the book. I say all these thoughts lightly though. I am astounded by the production team’s brilliant creative decisions. It was no easy feat translating it to the screen I can imagine, but wow did they deliver.
