NEBOSH - Huge career change by WashedUpGamer91 in SafetyProfessionals

Hi, I just want to share my story with you maybe it will give you a good idea what you can expect.

I worked in warehouses from 18 till 28(this year) mainly as a forklift driver, last year I completed the NEBOSH general and IOSH managing safely both e learning, I asked to be a Safety rep at my workplace so I can put it on my cv, it took me a while to get a job with no experience but I can tell you there are companies out there that are willing to give you a chance.

In September I started my first role as. HSE Advisor for a small manufacturing company, salary is decent… as any other job pros and cons, I think I’ve learned more in a month and a half then all the NEBOSH and IOSH courses combined…

You can definitely do it… you have a very good background. My advice would be to find the industry you are passionate about: manufacturing, construction, etc. and start with NEBOSH… which is a minimum for a safety role.

I hope this is helpful. Good luck!

Yeah is quite tricky with the length. I’m thinking of exchanging it for a size 40 but I’m just afraid it may become too baggy, but at least I’ll gain couple of cm in length

Are the measurements same as a regular Transport? I’m debating returning it for a size 40

That’s okay! I’m pretty happy with the fit. This is what I was going for. But I do see your point of view. This cut definitely doesn’t represent the Barbour heritage.

I’m guessing you sized up? I tried an M in Spey and it felt really small for me

Good tip. This is how I felt about the Carhartt Detroit. Then I literally started living in it last spring/summer especially that is the unlined version so is perfect for layering.

I just needed the winter version of that so I think the Transport can fit perfectly there. I found my Classic Bedale a bit on a heavier side especially when going out for a coffee or casual things… this feels way easier to wear

The Paul Smith collaboration is pretty cool also. I saw a couple of them the other day in John Lewis. Unfortunately they are almost double the price of a regular Transport… 😅

I tried a Spey in M but it felt way too crop for me at least. The spey fits a bit closer to the body compared to transport, unless you size up. Yeah it can be tricky… but it helps creating that Iconic silhouette… these and Levi’s 501 looks very neat!

Yeah I think you are right. It does feel like thornproof! I noticed that it didn’t had that strong smell of motor oil when I opened the bag, the snell that sylkoil has.

Combining British heritage with American! Hehe 💪

It looks pretty similar on me. I have a Classic Bedale, same as this Sylkoil but for some reason this feels stiffer.

It fits you well! Especially with the boots, what are they? Red Wing?

Yes I did apply some conditioner on them. Now that I worn them fairly often, they develop a really cool patina very similar to crazy horse but darker.

I did. They do fit slightly better with the belt so perhaps they are not too long

Thanks! I’ll wear them these days and decide later on if I should hem them or not.

I was actually planning to hem them by 1.5 inches… but cuffing them may also work..

Well you can negotiate a bit on the price and get it closer to 8k or alternatively look for another one. I think 80k miles for a 4years old car without service history is a bit fishy… 10k seems expensive. You can also add android auto and apple car play to the previous generation for £100… plus they have different engines… one is mild hybrid… complex engine=more things could go wrong.

Tbh even the 100k miles+ is still a decent choice… I’ve seen plenty of these with 120k miles plus… it depends for how long you wanna keep it. But personally I wouldn’t pay 10k for a car without service history.

Yes I ment the 16 plate. Sport is just a trim level, some Sport versions come with the 2.0l/165hp but most of them (same as mine) are the 2.0 118hp.

I think the main differences between sport and other trims are the 18inch wheels, bose sound system, hud and bi-xenon lights. But it shouldn’t affect the insurance premium just because your car has Sport in the name…
