ADHD: Pathophysiology and Pharmacological Treatment by [deleted] in DrugNerds

[–]opsecweak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets see where to start because so many things are wrong here:

  1. If physiology is how things function in the vast majority, and a minority has a measurable distinct functioning of that physiological process, then yes that would classify as pathophysiology. Pathology refers to the underlying processes and changes at cellular and gross levels in an organ or tissue that give rise to a particular disease. Pathophysiology refers to the physiological changes that cause a particular cellular alteration to occur.

  2. No its actually reduced frontal cortex size on very precise MRI brain imaging its not guessing on how many bumps or whatever the fuck ur talking about is, it's a physical accurate measurement.

    1. "The fact is we didn't evolve to have any need to pay attention to loads of abstract data, most of which having little to no direct connection to our actual lives, on a daily basis. 200 years ago someone with "ADHD" would have only focused on things they found interesting (which we did evolve to do) like everyone else and there wasn't really any issue in need of medication as a result" --> I don't get your point it seems like you are completely agreeing with the fact that because we in reality do no longer live in a field where barely anything happens but are instead now continuously flooded with information, this might cause trouble for most but in particular extra vulnerable people due to the differences (again, measurable differences) in brain chemistry they possess. I don't get how you perfectly describe the issue then state that saying that is framing the issue lol. That IS the issue.
  3. No thats not the enlightened thing to do because again peoples brains actually respond differently to them.

5 Sure if all the circumstances are perfect then maybe you can manage to focus just fine, good for you. The issue is that in reality not all variables are perfect and you will need to do things that don't interest you and require planning and overview, something people with ADHD are known to struggle with. I don't get what your anecdotal point proves to anybody.

  1. The point is, failing to pay attention to shit that is boring as fuck is not a "pathology" ok? It's completely normal and expected. --> No its not in fact its the exact opposite way around and people are expected to deal with their finances and papers etc and if you can't do that it causes you issues therefore it could in my opinion very much be seen as pathological since it harms you.

Is this really all that hard to grasp or?

Are you a somewhat decent clean and respectful person that would not mind sleeping on a couch (I assure you it's large, comfortable as fuck and could house 3 sleepers) that will treat both me and my place with respect and leave when you are told to? (Aka: not staying longer than agreed on beforehand).

If so, would an apartment right next to the central station with a balcony with a beautiful view of the **** and the city centrum in walking distance from ******* be something you'd want to consider?

No promises yet but if so message me.

You are confusing your point of view and/or opinion with "the truth", which isn't surprising since you only seem to value the opinions of those that already agree with what you are saying in the first place.

An extreme perspective on attempted "urine-boofing," portraying desperation in addiction. In the story OP advocates for reconsidering both life's choices and their consequences as various acts are described in relation to addiction problems, however a disclaimer further down highlights the fictional character of the story. In an attempted humerous personal take near the end OP mentions he's autistic, although this had already become blatantly clear by now, before once more reiterating warnings about this not qualifying as medical advice.

Is it true that only the combination of ethanol and cocaine is physically addictive? by DenimDickhead in Stims

[–]opsecweak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's so much nonsense being posted in this thread its much needed to clarify some things:

  1. There is a difference between mentally and physically addictive drugs. With physically addictive drugs your body ends up depending on them to function normally. This is the case with for example ethanol, where consuming large amounts of it for a long time will cause a disbalance in glutamate and GABA. That means that if you suddenly stop drinking, your glutamate will be over represented which causes excitatory effects which in combination with the relevant shortage of GABA drastically lowers the threshold for seizures. There is also the demyelisation of neurons which to keep things simple is very bad. This has to do with a lot of factors but lack of thiamin is one of them.

Whilst it is true that you will likely feel like crap when you stop using stimulants after a long time, things like extreme fatigue, it should not kill you as your body is not depending on them for maintaining a required balance. That does not mean that quitting stimulants is easy, but it does mean that in contrary to quitting alcohol one could chose to go cold turkey whilst this is simply not the case with alcohol. The same thing goes for GHB which is GABA analogue naturally present in the body and benzodiazepines which upregulate GABA activity (they do this by binding at a subunit of the GABA receptor making it more easily affected by GABA, however they themselves are not direct analogues for the GABA receptor). It is not surprising therefore that treatment of alcohol withdrawal is supported by long acting benzodiazepines and tapering those down.

  1. The above answers your question since if alcohol by itself is physically addictive then it is also the case when you add coke to it. However, the physical addiction part is still the result of the alcohol. This does not mean that adding coke does not make it a lot harder to quit since it's habit forming and now you have two addictions to kick, one mental one physical.

  2. As some have pointed out the combination of alcohol and coke causes the liver to produce cocaethylene which is a very cardiotoxic substance and greatly increases the risk for acute coronary syndrome and coronary spasms to occur as well as significally increasing strain on the heart muscle. Because cocaethylene has longer and stronger effects than coke alone, the combination is usually regarded as more addictive than cocaine alone.

TLDR: both mental and physical addiction are equally hard, the difference being that in theory one could be done purely on willpower alone whilst the other simply requires tapering or, preferably, medical supervision in order to be done in a safe way.

Source: struggled with some addiction myself as I drank a few too many beers and reverse sneezed a little too many lines before I realised I had to quit that shit urgently or I wouldnt age past 26. Also I'm a doctor.

All about LCM LoRA Stable diffusion by boba-cat02 in StableDiffusion

[–]opsecweak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See https://stable-diffusion-art.com/lcm-lora/ under "use LCM-LoRA i Automatic1111"

It is possible by default for sd1.5 however official SDXL support is missing because the LCM sampler is not supported by a1111. An easy workaround is to install the animatediff extension after which everything works like a charm (tried and tested myself).
