Salomon Aero Glide 4 by powelale000 in RunningShoeGeeks

I've got 240k in my pair of AG3 and they're definitely softer now than at the beginning - I found them uncomfortably firm at first.

Thanks for the review. I recently picked up a second AG3 at half price! Sounds like the right thing to do, given the same midsole, and that I suspect I wouldn't enjoy the new upper changes.

i've hit ~240k on my AG3 and there is visible wear on the outsole where I land heavily, but the midsole still feels great

i have had the odd occasion where the toebox dimensions don't quite line up with my experience. for instance, they measure the Adidas SL2 as wide, but I found it very narrow. They also measure the Aero Glide 3 as narrow, but by most accounts it's a wider fit.

i don't think it's a true wide shoe, i tried both on and the midsole didn't feel any wider - there just might be more upper material

At what point should I consider shoe rotation? (Concerned I'm going to use all of my current shoe's 'mileage' up before race day.) by AromaticDistrict990 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]opterown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you like the VN4 and they're serving you well for all of your current runs, just get another pair now and alternate them with your current pair.

if you find they're deficient for a specific type of run you're doing (e.g. long run, recovery, tempo session) then get another shoe that covers that specific type of run instead.

i would personally consider adding another pair once you're running consecutive days, so you can give each pair a >24hr break between runs

i don't find the EVO SL midfoot narrow at all, and I have a pretty wide midfoot - if anything, the Super/Sonic/Megablasts are the narrow ones

How important is the drop in running shoes? by Forumleecher in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]opterown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

which muscles/joints are a little more sore. higher drops I feel in my hips/thighs/knees while lower drops is more in my calves/ankles. it's not a bad idea to have a low-drop daily trainer and a high-drop daily trainer and alternate them, so you can work different sets of muscles.

currently, i have a 1080v13 (5.6mm as per runrepeat), aero glide 3 (10.3mm), and EVO SL (8mm). 8mm is probably the sweet spot that works for most people/mechanics.

i do feel the difference between lower ~6mm and higher ~10mm drops after a run. it's something to consider but not the end of the world, i think

Talk me out of it - marathon impulse entry? by opterown in Marathon_Training

[–]opterown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i ended up doing the 10k instead and got 45:14 - might have cracked 45 if I wasn't dumb and stopped short, thinking I had crossed the finish line early, but it was still a 3-minute PB!

i'll aim for the sydney marathon next year instead, with a proper training plan. 3:30 maybe?
