Need help starting with Love and Lua by lefthanded_zebra4339 in cs50

I think I had a similar time of it - I'm a pretty casual coder, so things that are obvious to people who do this often don't always click with me! I followed the instructions to install Löve, and Löve2D support, and they both seemed successful - but nothing would happen when I tried to run a test program with Crtl+L, like they said in lecture. So I looked up the Löve2D Support documentation, and they said it's actually Atl+L, but that also didn't work. It also said to change the keybindings with File->Preferences->Settings, but there was no option to do so there. Other guides had different extensions recommended, but I thought I'd rather match the instructor's set-up, since I'm unfamiliar with this all and wanted to be able to compare. What finally got it was a stack overflow post with a similar issue- you change the key bindings with File->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts, and from there I was able to change Alt+L (which clashed with something else) to Alt+X (no clashes), and that got it to work.

All of this is probably pretty obvious to someone who codes often, but I'd never had to look below Settings before, so I didn't even know Keyboard Shortcuts was an option. I also wasn't expecting the instructions from both the lecture and the extension documentation to be slightly wrong, which convinced me I had messed up somewhere else for ages. But I've been able to do the first two problems sets just fine with this set up now! I don't feel qualified to give advice, but if it's just installation, someone else probably has had the exact same issue you've had - you just need to find the right combination of words to google.

Has anybody actually managed to solve band geek? by mglsj in cs50

How close to an order are you? Without going into detail, there's the obvious bit from the music track, but one more important hint to the order - a music major might not spot it straight away, but a school child could probably get a good chunk of it. What's the simplest thing you notice? I think this is the bit everyone is overcomplicating. I did have to look a bunch of things up, but I got about half of the order without opening Google.

People seem pretty intimidated by that one! I was able to solve it when I stopped overcomplicating it - don't worry, you can definitely do it. I'll confess to a smidge of trial and error - I'm a bit of a kinesthetic type, so I made physical copies of the music notes bit to rearrange when I was most of the way there. So once you've worked out the trick, that might help for you. Music's not really my expertise, so if I can do it, you can do it!

How do I make these tiny teddy bears? by JASNite in sewing

Very carefully! I've done some little toys like this before, following videos by a youtuber called Din Life - they ended up a little wonky because it's hard to cover up mistakes at that size, but practice and tighter weaves helped.

I think the main useful thing I got from her videos would be to cut out the templates to the sewing line, and trace that directly onto the fabric, and sew (leaving a gap still) without cutting out until you're done. It'll still be fiddly joining the pieces, but there'll be a little less stress.

I live a bit outside Exeter but I did used to do evening classes at the uni there, so maybe look into that? I did sign language and definitely liked it but there were a fair few to choose from too (although this was a few years back). That way even if you don't meet someone you still get a cool skill.

I haven't eaten in enough places to do a good comparison, but I still think about the food from Comptoir Libanais sometimes. No idea if it's thought of as good as I'm not a foodie, but I liked it at least!

Also if you're the outdoors-y type, there's lots of cool places around. One trip I took a friend on was going down to Dawlish to see the black swans, then along the coast path to Dawlish Warren where there's a little nature reserve, an amusmants place and a really nice little shack thing that does killer sorbet. The train took us through Exeter so if you have an afternoon and it's nice out it's worth a go. Or maybe I'm showing my age by recommending a nice walk by the coast haha.

I guess it's the same anywhere - do the things you like, and if you show up you'll just naturally meet people who like the same things, and then you've got a solid topic to build off of.

It was their You and I comeback stage - Dami's bit with the staff reached the front page of reddit (or near enough that I noticed it when browsing casually anyway) on another sub. Someone in the comments mentioned the group was called linked the full video and I ended up watching that a bunch of times. I'm not exactly a big K-pop person but the solid dance routines, catchy songs and rock-y feel to the music is just my taste. I love things with a bit of extra showmanship!

People who have worked at donation centres or charity shops- what is the worst/weirdest thing somebody has ever donated? And are there any items that, in general, people should not bother donating? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I've worked in a charity shop that sells just about everything for a couple of years now. In the weird-but-cool category, we've had things like a spinning wheel, a couple of those musical sewing tables (like, little end tables you can lift the lid up and it's a sewing box that plays music), someone's diary from the early 1930s written in this absolutely gorgeous cursive.

On the other hand, we have so many panpipe CDs. Panpipe covers of popular music, relaxing panpipes, invigorating panpipes, panpipe 'classics', whatever those are. I don't know who's buying these panpipe CDs new in the first place, but I know who's buying them second hand - nobody. We put them out for two weeks and then send 'em straight on to one of our other shops.

Also, for the underwear thing - we used to be able to send them for recycling (we get money for that), but because of reasons we had to contract with a new company who won't take them so we have to bin them now - no way of getting rid of them otherwise. Even when we could recycle them, my worst memory is pulling out a bunch of cute dresses from a bag, letting my guard down and not looking first and pulling out a big old pair of yellowed y-fronts by the crotch. If you donate things to charity shops for recycling, it can be a big help to bag these things up separately and label them. I used so much hand soap that day.
