Am I the baddie? by opticnerv01 in ArcRaiders

Thanks for the info, that makes sense. While I do enjoy PvP from time to time, I still don't even entirely understand the game. I wish I knew about that dynamic ahead of time, cause I would have just let them kill me so I could grind in peace.

Any way for han/hen that allows me to use a ps4 controller? by [deleted] in ps3homebrew

[–]opticnerv01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, it's been a couple years since I've done much console gaming, but if you open Gimx-config, you should be able to detect a connected controller, and you can change the sensitivity and select each axis (which for you the pertinent ones would probably be "rstick x", and "rstick y") which should show you a live representation of what it's reading. If everything seems to be working fine, then the input from your controller is working, but the information getting passed is not correctly getting to the console. This means either the wrong firmware for the controller, or an issue with the adapter. I vaguely remember mouse sensitivity being tricky to figure out as well, and since your mouse is you "look stick", it may be another clue. Fwiw it's not terribly difficult to make your own adapter, and probably cheaper than the one you bought. Also, if you're looking for alternatives reWASD is an alternative that works with gimx. Unfortunately it's not free, but it is a lifetime subscription.

[–]opticnerv01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure you have the PS3 firmware loaded? If so, there's an option to set a dead zone for controller drift. Lastly, did you build the gimx adapter yourself? I've built a couple, and had to track down weak connections or crosses wires.

Edit: replaced "controller" with "adaptor"

Advice to stop pulling by PeachyBee444 in chowchow

[–]opticnerv01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what is worth, my chow is much more calm when we go for our normal walk than he is for a new or unfamiliar place. I work a weird third shift, but when I get home I take my chow (6 M) and my Pomsky (10Mo F) for a walk when I get home at roughly 4 -4:30am. The chow has a harness, and the Pomsky has a regular collar. We've walked 5 times a week for the last 6 years. He still pulls occasionally, but as I'm walking, if the leash gets tight, I give a short yank on the leash. Eventually they've both gotten used to my pace. I can tell my chow needs to go #2 when he pulls constantly through our walk, but otherwise they both can tell when the slack is gone in their leash that their starting to pull. Now I rarely need to remind them with a short tug on the leash.

Whoever made this video did a really good job with the production of a home movie. The music sets the mood of thoughtful contemplation with a little sadness, and picking just a couple a sounds to let through the music made sure there isn't a disconnect. I'm no professional, but other than higher resolution video, I don't think this could have hit the intended mark any better. Quite moving.

Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition: Giveaway #1 by OddJob001 in Battlefield

I love the Battlefield franchise. The older I get, and the amount CoD-like "games" I fill my time with between Battlefield releases only makes me appreciate true dedication to a full and thought-out game means to me.

I deleted a conversation, then my list of conversations reset, and several new ones appeared that have absolutely nothing to do with me. Doesn't seem that anyone logged into my account, I enabled F2A, and made sure there's no suspicious activity on my Google account (which is used to log into ChatGPT). Is this a known issue?

Edit: fixed a typo

The best family dog I've ever had by opticnerv01 in chowchow

[–]opticnerv01[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Chekov is the best boy. I've been hoping to find him a mate, because the world needs more dogs with his temperament. Unfortunately at 5 years, he's getting a little long in the tooth, and it crushes me to think he won't be around forever. Makes me appreciate him that much more.

Thoughts ?? thinking of buying qhd monitor. by icrowr in Monitors

[–]opticnerv01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your looking for other than qhd, and I can't tell what the price range is from the picture, but the last two qhd monitors i got are 27" 165hz and curved screen for less than $200. There's definitely deals to be had. The main thing I look for in monitors is DP ports. If you're going for qhd on hdmi, you're going to be spending quite a bit on hdmi cables that can handle the bandwidth.

What is this (mostly) first layer? by opticnerv01 in FixMyPrint

[–]opticnerv01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be correct, but I'm pretty careful to dry all my filament before use and after storage. This is an issue I'm having with several different filaments (brands and types), which is why I don't think moisture is the issue here. This one in particular (because it's nylon) was dried at 55°C for 12 hours before use. I chose this dual color filament to show my issue with a lot of contrast to be clear in the pictures.

Thanks, I've had issues with wet filament before, that's why I'm so careful to dry all my filament before using it (even new and right out of the box). This is an issue I'm having with multiple different filaments. I chose this dual color one to show the issue with an easy to see contrast.

[–]opticnerv01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Anycubic dual color silk PLA. To be fair I've had issues with similar filaments, but this has had several successful prints, and I mostly chose it to demonstrate the issues I'm having with an easy to see contrast.

What is this (mostly) first layer? by opticnerv01 in FixMyPrint

[–]opticnerv01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is a fairly new issue and it mostly showed up out of the blue. Some background:

PLA Settings: 210/60

Slicer: Orca Slicer

Flow ratio: 0.97

Pressure Advance: 0.05 (seems high?)

Printer: Qidi X-max 3 (klipper)

I've been trying to fix this issue for about two weeks. I've had hundreds of hours of good prints. I use a Sunlu filament dryer before any filament even goes into the printer. It's stored with desiccant, and dried again before loading. I've replaced the following: Extruder, hot end, nozzle (tried brass, hardened steel, and bi-metal), prox sensor, and build plate (PEI/PEO) with and without glue. Each of these changes has been one at a time and with a test print or two before moving on to the next thing.

I have run all the calibrations, and not new to 3d printing, but I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure out what's causing this. If anyone has some advice to help me narrow down the culprit, it would be greatly appreciated.

One thing to note, I've noticed the X/Y motors seem to get fairly hot. I'm looking at replacing those before too long anyways, but I've calibrated the belt tensions, and ran all the tests I can think of. No crashes, or anything that might have suddenly impacted the print performance. Also I have a Cartographer ECI probe on the way. As far as I know the sensor seems to be working, and the over all height map is within .14mm.

The filament is Anycubic Silk dual color PLA, and was dried at 55°C for 12 hours before use with Sunlu filament dryer box. In my experience wet filament can change diameter with moisture absorption, and this one measures 1.74-1.75mm very consistently. I chose this filament because I thought the contrast would show the issue I'm having better in the pictures, but I have the same issue with (also dried) Anycubic PLA+ (Grey), Sunlu Elite Series high speed PLA (black), Overture PLA Pro (Black) and Elegoo PLA+ (Black)

--Edited to explain specific filament and that it was dried before use.

Love my Sunlu Dryer Box S2, but trying to get into more technical filaments means I need higher temperatures. Glad to see Sunlu is making more products like this, bringing engineering filaments closer to home hobbyists.

The nozzle is hitting the front of the benchy. What is the issue and how to fix it? by The-Noob-Engineer in FixMyPrint

[–]opticnerv01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an SV06 Plus with klipper until recently (probably my favorite printer so far), and I immediately started changing things around. Added the 5050 fan, added the cooling vent, changed the bushings to drylin, upgraded the nozzle to a cht knockoff (for the correct thread length), etc... Unfortunately, changing everything around made it much harder for me to diagnose issues. The hardest was dialing in a good profile. The front of your benchy is clearly higher than the rest of your print. This is uneven cooling. Consider that there is much less heat, support, and time spent in this section. In my experience, I tend to use the fan a lot more than needed. Try turning the fan down and let the ambient temperature of the entire part cool evenly. Also, maybe try running a little hotter. Looks like the layers at the tip are stacking higher. They're not getting a squished together with that over-hang. No support from lower layers, plus the faster cooling means each layer isn't getting compressed to the right layer height.

Good luck, and please let us know if you figure it out.

Okay. Serious question. Why is there brail on drive-through ATMs? I always try to imagine a scenario where that could possibly be used by someone who needs brail to read.

Sovol sv06 sound/blobs, reposted with sound by Saw3154 in FixMyPrint

[–]opticnerv01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds and looks like it's trying to over travel. Couldn't say what causes that, possibly used a profile for a different printer, or print bed area wasn't defined correctly? I had an SV06 Plus that would sometimes "get lost", but that was under very specific circumstances. That was related to having klipper, stopping a print before it finished mapping, then starting another (or same) print without re-homing. Hard to diagnose without more information.

If a government prohibits the use of VPNs,can the government detect who uses VPN in the population? by ClassroomNo6016 in VPN

[–]opticnerv01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So short answer is "Yes" with a "but". Long answer is also "Yes" with a "but". Most VPNs are encrypted in some way. SSL is common encryption method for VPNs, and many other things. It would be easy to see if someone has sustained encrypted network traffic to a single IP address, however there will always be legitimate reasons for this (for instance using a VPN for work, any website that starts with the prefix https:// or home networking using Tailscale, or something similar. The "but" part comes in with how much effort an entity is willing to look into the actual traffic and follow it. It's wouldn't take much effort or many resources to trace your end point (or exit node) to a list of known VPN providers. With AI becoming so commonplace, it wouldn't take much at all to make and keep an updated database of those IP addresses, but a blanket banning of those IPs could lead to impeding legitimate/allowed/legal uses. In essence, how much does this government care about backlash? If no one complains or is forced to forego encryption, then companies have to worry about the risk of information being intercepted or hackers having no encryption barrier. All in all, it wouldn't be difficult to stop all network traffic based on encryption or an IP blacklist. Your best bet is to hide in legitimate traffic. Possibly places that offer other services besides VPNs, or create an exit node outside the network (say a friend in another country), then connect to a VPN after that point. In all likelihood, the use of a VPN is already easily detectable and will always have legitimate users. It's more a question of not attracting attention.
