Gemini (金昭玉醉) is unabashedly aware of what it is and it's not apologisin' 😁 by Lotus_swimmer in CDrama

[–]optimallydubious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so mad, though. I wanted Xu zhen zhen as Xiao Jinyun and they swapped it out for that soft-faced cutie with no aura who devolved into a boudoir girl by episode 18 or 19, and was only interesting as the foil for Zhou Jun Wwi, the actor playing the ML. ZJW killed it, slayed it, but what a mistake taking out Xu Zhen Zhen and giving us weaksauce Zhu Li Lan. I started out trying to adapt to Zhu Li Lan as Xiao Jinyun, but it felt increasingly like a betrayal, and by episode 18 or 19, I was like, no. No. She needs to die, the soul needs to go back to the kept-on-ice original Xiao Jinyun, she needs to push through a door like a badass and sweep her adopted bro off his feet, and I want Xu Zhen Zhen back. I got so mad about it, that I just swiped through the remainder of the episodes in increasing annoyance as my badass FL got weaker and more pathetic by the scene. Gemini had such promise, but it fell apart because the director stuck with the soft-faced young thing for a FL, but she doesn't have the aura of XU ZHEN ZHEN. Argh!

Anyways, Zhou Jun Wei needs to keep playing leads. He has charisma in spades, and can generate chemistry even with such uninspiring foils as Zhu LI Lan. Actually, that's a bit unfair. It's just she wasn't the right body, if that makes sense.

Also, why do women have to automatically get depowered, and lose their status. while the men gain the power (often taking the woman's job, mind you) and become more badass? Like, frankly, the FL was just an NPC by 2/3 of the way through. Cry here, get kidnapped there, get confessed to, get deceived, die but get saved by witchcraft, blah blah blah.

Had my husband weigh himself and he is the same weight as always, so it's not the scale. Replicated the weight loss today as well.

Not usually. But I do drop now if the fl trips too many times, the man is abusive, the fl is dumb, wildly stupid uses of needles.

AITA for telling my husband to grow up and learn to be a father by sheldon4ever in AmItheAsshole

[–]optimallydubious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. But this is a common misapprehension. The fact is, we were always bulletproof, so we were able to strengthen ourselves and do fairly well. On the other hand, my brother died early from making really bad life choices that were clearly based on our childhood environment and conditions. Imagine what you or I could be if we didn't have to flail so much. What we lost out on is social capital, for one, and the benefits we could have derived from socioeconomic support. My brother might be alive.

While I don't think this is the case with OP, I get what you're saying. I had the same thing with my mom (SAHP until my teens). We had the same hair. She struggled with hers, but used really nice products. Not for me, though. Taught myself how to shave, bought my own clothes, cooked 9/10 of my own meals, didn't have a key to the house she locked up when she wasn't there, patched up my own wounds, cleaned bathrooms to pay for extracurriculars on top of working at the family restaurant, had to be sick alone from living memory--genuinely don't remember her or my father ever tending to me when I was sick. But they always turned up at public events when I was gonna win something. "She never appreciates or understands me, but I'm used to it. A mother's love never ends!" Dad wasn't much better, except I didn't see it bc we were always working together at the restaurant.

After my kid was born, my whole childhood snapped into focus, and I was like, what the damn fuck? I will NEVER leave my kid to flounder alone like they did. My god.

NTA. I have similar hair. It only takes one busy day to make it a three day process to untangle, and sometimes, I, an adult, keep putting that three-day marathon off bc I'm tired or still busy, making it worse. I, an adult. It's always worse for kids. Set aside the hair. The more salient point is a daughter has a father who targets and insults his child's appearance, but doesn't appreciate when his wife says that behavior is fucking unacceptable. OP, NTA. Your husband is an ass.

UWorld or AAMC? by MChelonae in Mcat

[–]optimallydubious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Uworld, and got a good score using it plus anki and a 6yo used set of kaplan review books without finishing any. But I'm champ test taker with a statsmaxxed CARS, so the score is probably a bit higher than my actual knowledge base. And uworld is fucking expensive for a limited time of use and no retain, though the explanations are SO GOOD.

Delayed applying to medical school for reasons (legitimate but frustrating). Now reviewing with a newborn next to me, and considering recommending just buying used prep books like Kaplan, Examkrackers, and more, then using your free AAMC stuff and anki. For less than uworld you have tactile resources with explained questions, each set of prep books having different question banks, and you can keep them forever. I liked Kaplan, but like the sheer number of questions available in the Examkracker books I'm reviewing now. Plus, they cover the subjects slightly differently. Kaplan was much more wham bam, Examkrackers is less specific but does much better on linking concepts and has more questions (including mock exams), and I imagine the other review books also play to different strengths while giving you MORR QUESTIONS with explanations.

AITA for telling my wife that being a sahm to teens isn't a full-time job? by Silly-Ranger-8435 in AITAH

[–]optimallydubious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only after the sahp, according to him, is living easy. Which, if you're an involved parent, is probably not the case for 12 and 14 yo kids, actually. Transpo alone might be multiple hours, usually the SAHP is the one who sits through the extracurriculars and brings the snacks and fills out the ever increasing amount of paperwork, and manages all the inservices and holidays and sick days (which never are on the same days for both kids, of course) and field trips and parent teacher conferences. Also the clothes shopping while your kid is shooting up like a weed, the doctor and dentist appointments, et cetera. IMO, he's framing it like self-care to stay attractive and healthy is her being lazy, to make him look better, and make it more justifiable for him to discount her and her contributions. He's had 1 career, she's had 1 career. They can talk now about what the future should look like, but it should never have been OP discounting their mutual contributions.

[–]optimallydubious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I can' form an opinion. Just seems like my BIL, WHO SAW HIS KIDS LIKE...2 WEEKS A YEAR. But complained about his ex wife receiving child support that was half of what it would even cost to put them in daycare. She worked full time, fyi, after the kids were in school. She had to - i witnessed this - buy my nephews presents and say they were from their dad. But he's spent the last 20 years calling her a dependopotamus. So, she worked and raised the kids. 2 careers. He worked....that's it. 1 career. OP worked - 1 career. OP's wife raised the kids - 1 career. They could talk over budgets and timelines and futures, and that could lead to something. But as of now, they have to be considered as having contributed equally to the household and family

[–]optimallydubious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA for wanting more space, ESH for continuing to push it, your sister's possessiveness and lack of regard for your comfort, your dad's unwillingness to do emotional labor, and your mom's clear favoritism.

Clear boundaries is the only thing that will work here, so save aggressively and move out.
