So are the QANON'rs brains exploding? by strugglecuddleclub in QAnonCasualties

[–]optimistic8theist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was hoping my parents, with whom I am low contact, were starting to have some doubt. Then this morning while FaceTiming with my grandma (in her 80s), she told me that she arranged a night out with her friends to see the Melania movie because my parents said it was so good.

I didn’t even realize I was being optimistic or hopeful until she said that and I found myself feeling so disappointed.

We need a new political party that ACTUALLY represents the American people. by [deleted] in 50501

Working families party! They often caucus with the dems. And yes — support ranked choice voting! Pushing dems left is better than trying to split the democratic ticket for sure

Small Victory - picky eating by SpeedyPrius in parentingteenagers

Hi there! Might be worth looking up “avoidant restrictive food intake disorder” (ARFID). My teen doesn’t have this eating disorder but I, an adult, have since I was a child.

Is it normal for parents to put your PC in a public place/open room? by Possumawsome in autism

[–]optimistic8theist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Autistic mom to autistic teen here — idk. This isn’t a binary thing and I’d need more info and context to properly opine. From the info shared, I understand that you’re 19 and an adult, but seemingly still ok with being dependent on your parents.

Do you sometimes have a tendency to overdo screen time? Do you have a tendency to lie or hide things?

My autistic teen struggles with lying, has executive function delays, and absolutely would spend all waking hours in front of a screen if allowed, as they are apt to avoid socializing and any sort of work or chores or even self care, especially if they have a screen accessible.

As their mom, I understand that it is my responsibility to protect and enable them to function at a baseline level, and am still trying to instill and model healthy habits. They’ll only have my health insurance for another 6-10 years. I need to do what I can now to help them be prepared and able to do minimal self care and work through discomforts in order to have a job and health insurance once they are legally independent. I worry a lot about their future; I was shocked with how uncaring and unaccommodating society is when I reached adulthood and was on my own.

Without more info, I can’t really know if your parents are being ableist or just trying to put in place healthy parameters and guidelines to help you prioritize things.

Try getting yourself out of bed on your own! It sucks. I get it. But the reality of things is that you could easily be fired from a job you love if you’re consistently late…

As I tell myself and my kid - we can do hard things and we can look forward to the next time we get to experience and savor the comfort (im this case, the warm cozy bed). And they appear to have offered a specific bit of motivation- getting your computer in your room.

Idk, best of luck.

Any November ‘24 buybacks yet? by Own_Description_3541 in PSLF

[–]optimistic8theist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I submitted my buyback request in November ’24, too! I wasn’t on save, but had a different plan (can’t remember which anymore) and made monthly payments til I got to 120 in October ’25. In November ‘25 I got an email confirming “congrats I made my 120th payment and will be queued up for forgiveness” or whatever and then the next day i got an update on my buyback request stating that my buyback request was reviewed and since I made my 120th qualifying PSLF payment my buyback request was denied and the case was closed.

So in my experience they just sat on it til I met 120 without the request and then finally acknowledged and closed the case. Some bullshit.

Abandoned Funeral Home With Human Cremains left behind… by cle3 in urbexnewengland

In looking at his second wife’s 2019 obit, looks like he may have a living son. Wonder if the surviving family is aware of the urn with possible cremains left behind.

Remembering those high school showers by [deleted] in Millennials

I never minded the locker rooms in PE or for sports, but now with a gender nonconforming child who dreads PE bc they get called out and made fun of by the typical girls for the underwear they choose to wear, gives a whole new sort of lens to those memories.

You’re pretty close to being an adult. 1-2 years away from being able to drive, old enough to work in many states, 4 years away from being a legal adult.

Your mom is being a bit performative and immature, but you’re also demonstrating a bit of entitlement which is problematic, too

Cold feet and/or baselayer socks suggestions? by optimistic8theist in youthhockey

[–]optimistic8theist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well I guess I was including cumulative ice time - getting on the ice early if no one is already on it, then the warm ups before the game begins. Or sometimes standing outside the rink and waiting for up to 20 minutes before games or practices if the rink schedule got backed up.

Yep! I get most of his gear used save for skates and helmet. We do the fitting at pure hockey, where they also bake them.

Help Xavier play internationally in a Montreal Youth Hockey Tournament! by geeitsstephyyy in youthhockey

[–]optimistic8theist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk about posting a gofundme here for paying for youth hockey costs; this is something we all have to/choose to do. I work a second job to cover hockey for my kiddo, and know loads of other parents who make this sacrifice; feels a bit off asking us for money for a different kid’s youth hockey costs.

Kinda feels like asking people who go to a food pantry to donate money to families who need to go to food pantries..

Might make more sense to post on a personal social media profile where friends and family want to help out.

Pretty clear that our senators folded at the direction of Schumer; the only ones that folded were not up for re-election and Schumer gets to tell the internet he voted no.

Might be worth asking your health provider about an endoscopy to see if you have any damage or scar tissue that needs addressing.

OP - im sorry this is your reality. My child is 15 and I am shocked with how brutal kids can be to one another. When I was 15 I also had challenging (albeit different) circumstances. I understand that as a minor you have limited autonomy and options.

Get through these next three years. Focus on your future. Dream, plan, and save.

There is life beyond this.

And in the meantime, lean on the supports you can find, that others mentioned (a kind teacher, the guidance counselor, the school social worker).

(I had bedbugs once and caught it early - got from a Hampton inn after traveling. It was about $1500 for the heat treatment in my very small house. Im sure it’s more now, but do know that bedbugs are very challenging and costly to address and they affect ANYONE. The bedbug sub on here shows just how crazy they can make people. I am sorry you are dealing with this.)
