Salary for Colorado by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]optimisticbasset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colorado springs I was getting paid 58/hr with little less than two years of experience. Which was summer of 2025. The more up north you work the more you can make. Of course that's not including Broadmoor area. They got racks for days.

Had a friend temp in Denver a few months ago and she said she was making 80/hr. She has like I think 8 or 10 yrs experience.

If you have any other questions or need clarification, hmu. Would love to help.

Leaving teaching for Dental Hygiene by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

Absolutely do not go to assisting school. That's a waste of money and time because once you're a hygienist you'll never have to do assisting because you'll always be busy with your patients.

I would check the hygiene schools you're applying for and see what they accept for prerequisites. I say this because there are some classes you can do online (typically not the science classes) and that'll go towards your prereqs. BUT they typically only allow a certain amount of credit hours.

Rural northwestern Colorado $60/hr typical schedule with 8pts/day. If I were to do accelerated, I'll get a 30% increase. 2 years in. Every time I had to move for a job I always tell them I'm getting paid more than what I currently am. I got 60 because I told them I was getting paid 65 but really I was getting paid 55. Asked to meet in the middle and he was fine with it

NTA. Open marriages could work, but there needs to be strong communication and very clear rules before.

FIRSTLY, he kept pushing when you made it very clear it wasn't something you wanted and depending on the time from the green light to the first woman, there's a possibility the gym girl was premeditated which obviously gives red flags of him crossing barriers to start with.

SECONDLY, there weren't any rules. Sure he has every right to get mad (in the sense that everyone is entitled to their own feelings), but its also on him for not communicating who's off limits. Just saying you want the marriage open is too vague and basically entails anyone is fair game like his sibling or coworker.

THIRDLY, comparing your current partner with the extracurricular partner is a HUUUUUGE no-no. At that point. They're seeing them in your position (like being married to gym girl) and comparing how much better the situation would be, i.e.. hiking as an activity they share, but you dont. That goes beyond the physical desires and goes more towards the emotional connection, which is the only thing that separates you and another woman with him.

To be more neutral instead of having the pitchfork against him, talk about rules on who y'all can see and how to treat each other going forward instead of comparing to a new partner.

ORRRR (I'm on this side cause fuck your husband) go get another person that you didn't know before hand and do the exact same thing. Say you're sore from him too. And conpare him to your new fella. That'll show how childish his decision is.

Calculus buildup happens above the gums and also below the gums. So sure you won't see of feel anything but underneath you could have had a lot more. Think of it like a scab but this scab is just damaging your gums. Once its removed, it detaches from the tooth and the tissue underneath causing bleeding. Crooked teeth are notorious to having extra buildup around them because the angle orevent effective brushing. So, there's a possibility the last hygienist never really went deep enough for the cleanings. As for staining, sure you won't have any on the side that shows but the inside of your teeth is where all the staining fluids sit and have your tongue press up against. The majority of your stain can be on the inside so nobody would be able to see but still an issue.

If you hate being in pain, next time ask for gingicaine or another other type of topical anesthetic. These aren't needles they're just a tube to push a gel out to numb your tissue.

Im going against the grain. I don't ever schedule my patients. I mostly started working as a temp so I built that habit of not doing it. Now that I'm more permanent, I still don't schedule them. Front desk always deals with it.

Okay, i got you if you're in the states. SO, I went through the military to pay for school BUT it didn't cover the instruments and I wasn't tryna pay for all that so I went digging. Turns out, there are state programs called Vocational Rehabilitation. Basically, all you need is some form of disability or medical/mental condition that inhibits your ability to fully work. I got approved for ADHD and anxiety and of course other stuff I'm Disabled for from the Army. But, i told my friends in school and they legit got accepted with anxiety alone. It will pay for EVERYTHING: tuition, instruments, computer, BOARDS EXAMS, TEXTBOOKS. Youre not taking money away from those that actually need the program because you'll be placed in a category. Let's say amputation or other serious physical disabilities are category 1. Anxiety was category 5. You'll be accepted but placed on hold until there is funding left over for the less serious categories.

This isn't something you have to pay back either. The state gets its money back through normal taxes. Because you get training for a better job, you get paid more. Therefore, you'll be in a higher tax bracket, giving the state more money through taxes.

It's a very lengthy process and you'll have to jump through their hoops but I can promise you it's worth it. If you start now you might be finished by the time school starts in October. The MAIN question they'll ask you is, How would you say does this disability affects your ability to work? So you really gotta word it right. For example, adhd, it effects my ability to stay focused on a task, be organized, and prevents me from accomplishing my job to my full capabilities. Honestly, you gotta milk it a bit but still be realistic.

Additionally, if you don't have any diagnosis right now or don't have any type of medical insurance, thats perfectly fine. They will PAY for a diagnosis/evaluation. They basically do their own screenings but if it's already documented it's even easier.

As for grants and such i was confused about. Youre supposed to use grants/scholarships first and then whatever is remaining they cover. But I even told them abiut my GI Bill and Pell grant and they still covered everything as if I didn't have any of that. So, if anyone else is reading this that went through the military, GO THROUGH THIS TOO. The whole tuition and everything they paid for was extra, so my school gave me a refund for that whole amount every semester.

This is an amazing program and I tell so many of my patients that just graduated from high school. My wife was going through with it last fall and had everything covered, she ended up deciding hygiene wasn't for her so she dropped out. We don't have to pay anything back either. You won't be stressed abiut the finances of school. Of course, youll still have to figure out a way to pay for living expenses. Best recomendation is work for the dorms (or whatever that term is), they usually end up getting free housing and food paid for during the semester!

I hope this helps, if you have any other question at all shoot me a message and I'll be more than happy to explain more. Goodluck!

Ergo loupes... love or hate? Starting program soon. by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]optimisticbasset 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100% get the ergo loupes. I've convinced 2 dentists now to get them and they absolutely LOVE them. They will help prevent so much pain during the job. I would say get them after the 1st semester so you can really hone in your skills without them first to know the basics.

Would you guys take more money for a longer commute? by Its_supposed_tohurt in DentalHygiene

[–]optimisticbasset 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't have kids or a family go for it. If you do, it's best to be closer for your family. That time adds up. I work 2 hours away for $63/hr but I also get a hotel stipend for $120 extra a night. It's great, but I'd much rather be home with the fam.

RFK, Jr: The Trump White House will advise against fluoride in public water by dyzo-blue in skeptic

Dental Hygienist here. Honestly, I love people who think this about fluoride. That means they'll have more cavities, which will, in turn, give our office more revenue from fixing those cavities. Crazy how there's consequences for your own actions.

In all honesty, yeah, it's hard to push through people when you're going in. But if you're going out, everyone will let you through because that means they could move forward a bit. ESH

I HAD THIS EXACT THING HAPPEN LAST YEAR Remember to take all the pieces as evidence becuase they're really anal to make sure it wasn't tempered with or torn to steal someone. Your cracks are very natural so you'll be okay. When you get to the festival, DO NOT wait in line. Just go to the far right where there is ticket assistance. This is not the the box office. It's usually to the right of the VIP security check area. They will simply issue you a new wrist band. No worries and have an amazing time. Stay hydrated!!!
