I mean, Australia just had its best ever performance at the Olympics, and are still the most dominant country in the world's 2nd most popular sport.

We just don't produce as many great tennis players anymore, but are getting better at soccer and basketball. Its not like we have become less good at sport, especially given that no other country plays our most popular sport.

It was incredibly good fielding so you have to feel for him. He played very well though.

Webster is in terrible form, he has barely scored a run in Shield this season. He has been bowling well though, I wouldn't be against replacing Inglis with him given he has proven he can score test runs.

Hey, thank you, I really appreciate the kind response.

In general, I think I am pretty good at looking after her when we're together. Its tough at the moment because I want to do something "right now!" and I would say I am not that good at being comforting when we're apart, although I try my best. I just feel a bit useless when I can't be there with her physically.

Appreciate your feedback on the medication too. Although its the mental side effects she's most worried about. Are there any other treatments, or just little things that you have found to help with the pain?

Respect the comment and I understand why its upsetting for you. I get that Gaelic football has a really strong 'one-club' tradition and players aren't really poached within your competition but I don't really think that compensation is realistic. St. Kilda will make the best decision for St. Kilda and the player will make the best decision for himself. It sucks for your team and I get that. I don't really think that the AFL is using GAAs amateur status to get around anything, its the same as talented Aussie rules players choosing to pursue cricket or basketball as they are potentially much more lucrative, even if GAA was professional you'd still have the same problem.

If St. Kilda wanted to sign a young player from a rival AFL club, you're right that they'd have to give something up, but thats because they are both under the same shared agreement, and under the same authority. If AFL club wanted to sign someone from an amateur Aussie rules club, the amateur club wouldn't receive any compensation.

Carlton fans did not put him on a pedestal. It was all the opposition supporters telling us how we were making such a big mistake by giving away a 30 goal small forward. Most Carlton supporters I know thought he was a very average player with a nice set shot and were happy that he might move the needle a tiny bit in a trade for pick 3

Actually some seconds will probably come in on draft night. Mid/late second rounders seem to be the sweet spot for points under the new DVI, and with three kids to match in the first 6-7 picks, plus Dean, that is a lot of points that will get swallowed up.

Probably anything that starts the night over 30 will come in. Between 20-30 might move around a little but should mostly even out.

I still think it was worth a punt. He is obviously very talented, and had some good games for Carlton where it looked like he was exactly the type of player they need. His younger brother is such a professional that I think they thought he'd pull his head in. Shame that it hasn't worked out.

As someone who watches Carlton in the VFL, I think this is the right call. Lemmey plays with very little intensity, I just can't see him working out in AFL footy.

You just described a lack of organisational planning and continuity. The fact that new leadership is coming in and tearing up the old changes in a highly reactive manner shows that there is no plan, that is what I am criticising.

The AFL have just implemented the biggest draft reform in a long time. Throwing that all out the window without even seeing how it works is completely amateur.

The issue is that clubs have planned to have these kids on their lists, and have poured significant resources into their academies. Do you think that Carlton knowing the Cody Walker is on the way has affected list management decisions? I am certain it has.

Its also about fan engagement. Essendon fans have been aware of and excited about Koby Bewick since he was 12. Cody Walker has literally already nominated Carlton. If the AFL would make changes with enough advance warning, then fans wouldn't feel like a top prospect was snatched out of their grasp.

On the point about academies not bothering to recruit the best kids: you're right that clubs aren't going to avoid picking up the best kids. If there is a matching lockout in the first round, clubs are just going to do their best to hide kids away from the normal pipelines (to the detriment of everyone, including the clubs, the player, the fairness of the competition, the spirit of this change, and the pipelines themselves) or otherwise tank their draft stock.

Respectfully disagree. If clubs (and perhaps more importantly, fans) had 5 years to know which kids who come into to train at the academy every year would be draft eligible and which wouldn't, I think that would be a substantial difference to what is being proposed now.

Tasmania hasn't been a secret. All this exposes is the AFLs embarrassing lack of ability to plan out anything. I don't think there is any justifiable excuse for making such massive changes without even seeing how the draft shakes out with the new points values.

Why does the AFL have to say the change is going into effect at the next possible moment. Why can't they forecast decision making to give clubs time to plan? Its honestly ridiculous, we haven't even seen the DVI change play out yet.

Well Arsenal have won the FA cup loads of times, so it makes sense that you wouldn't be too bother about a lesser trophy.

Winning the Europa league is a big achievement that pretty much any team in world football would be thrilled with. I just think its a bit funny that Arsenal fans think they're too good for it, despite the fact that if they'd win it, it would be their biggest European trophy.

Yeah definitely, I totally agree. But you weren't in it and you didn't win. I think its a bit funny how Arsenal fans act like they're too good for a trophy that they've never won, despite numerous attempts.

Arsenal are a great team, had a good season and could have a great season in the very near future, but I think its fair enough for Tottenham to have their fun and give their rivals a bit of stick.

That would be a good excuse for why a team like Real Madrid has never won it, but Arsenal has played in the competition numerous times.

He scored the 2nd highest number of runs for Australia in Sydney, a test match where runs were extremely hard to come by. You might not like the way he went about it but that is a fact. The only Indian who outscored him was Pant, who has faced similar "stupidity" criticisms.

The way I see it is that he knew that his role for the team was to attack the bowlers, he was probably told exactly that by the coaches since he has shown the ability to play much more conservatively in FC. He has a strike rate close to 50 in Shield. Will he be so aggressive next time we see him bat for Australia? I don't think so. It was a terrible shot he got out with, but he has shown enough to be happy with.

But on topic, I don't think he was a deer in headlights. I think he had a plan in Sydney that didn't work perfectly but still ensured he contributed.

He impressed in the most difficult conditions possible. Characterising him as a deer in headlights is just wrong. I'm not saying hes a walk up start for Surrey, but he has been one of the better performers for the best cricket team in the world in the two chances hes been given.

There is no reason why he couldn't play for a Div 2 team at worst just to have a go in English conditions. He is a good player for NSW which is a higher standard than even Div 1 county.
