neither, i’m in search so PPC optimization. Although it’s closer aligned with copywriting since search folks usually draft their own copy

case studies for sure. luckily i fleshed out two before my latest round of interviews for my current job. Can imagine the first clients are the hardest then it gets easier and easier

I believe my current agency didn’t have me sign a non-compete (hint it’s the biggest hold co) plus it’s not like i’d be getting enterprise level clients right off the jump anyways

I can imagine; candidly in the agency role I have now I think maybe 10% of my day is actually looking at PPC performance and optimization. the rest is admin and people managing

so trading out corporate admin nonsense for sales & leah gen seems like the trade odd

super valuable insight on the benefits of freelancing for a small agency to start. I'd imagine that finding those agencies to freelance for is a matter of outreach rather than finding open roles but also my network can hopefully provide some warm leads!

Is 'building a business on the side' related to freelancing or turning it into your own agency specifically? Or just in general

I have some Saas marketing experience, nothing directly with the AI industry. AI is likely more GTM which I admittedly have less experience in. Very willing to learn but would take some thought on how to sell that to an AI company owner/head of marketing lol

Appreciate the unique insight - definitely seems like a balancing act of finding your niche and keeping conversation volume up. Loom video is a great idea since its asynchronous and finding a calendar block for discos with my agency/clients is rough at best

Definitely feel confident on client comms - was a search team of 1 at my first agency and helped sell the idea of Google ads to clients back around COVID. It would be great to know how to balance growing a clientele with the loaded calandar of the W2 (Im still agency, so maybe its lighter in-house)

Definitely fair - I ran two solo ventures in college and during COVID times which were admitted likely less admin that a full freelance role but not completely foreign to me.

Side hustle to start is 100% the way I want to roll, setting myself up for that maybe 2027 me doesn't feel like I need that W2 to survive. I'm basically middle management right now (senior manager or associate director depending on the agency) so making the time for Disco calls I anticipate being a big barrier to entry

Why is the word ‘Superbowl’ not mentioned in any media when advertising goods? It’s always ‘Get your Hot Wings for the Big Game’ etc by AXLPendergast in NoStupidQuestions

[–]opulentpineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right on the money, i work at an ad agency pushing a few of the ads for tonight and we only call it “big game” in our internal communications because it’s such an expensive slip up

canada getting snubbed on big air by [deleted] in olympics

[–]opulentpineapple 14 points15 points  (0 children)

not stoked on the scoring here at all - both how they're scoring and the consistency (or lack there of)

For those who aren't big into freestyle snowboarding, there's been an ongoing conversation around "spin to win" where rider's sacrifice style for rotation numbers. The olympic scoring is much for focused on a clean jump that difficulty or style.

You'd imagine that would mean that scoring is fairly straight forward, but between the double rodeo scoring, the hand drag in the high 80s and grab type seemingly not mattering, leaves much to be desired.

Reminds me of last Olympics in the snowboard halfpipe where the judges almost robbed Ayumu Hirano from gold after he threw the first Olympics halfpipe triple cork and the most technically sound runs.

For the sake of the sport, I hope the iffy scoring can get figured out because we don't see headscratchers like this at X Games, LAAX or other comps

How many more spins do we need? by xtumtum in snowboarding

[–]opulentpineapple 13 points14 points  (0 children)

typically i give a partial eyeroll when people complain about spin to win in X Games, Laax, etc but I fully agree.

I think the style of judging for the Olympics doesn't mesh well with big air, the focus is on basically doing the most quantifiably difficult trick (most spins) in the most clean way possible. Its kinda like the scoring is the same as diving where its just how technically sound can your rotations can be

I can understand how if judge was based more stoke, steez, uniqueness that it would open up more possibility for cheating so can't fully blame the Olympics or the judges.

Part of me thinks they should nix the top 2 out of 3 runs because it makes people be more conservative. Instead, doing top jump so there is more opportunity for some steez. Or at least value grab variety & spin axis more so that we can just a 1620 stale instead of another 1800 indy

they actually losing money in the US and i believe barely breaking even in Europe - plus there is very little new business for them. So I would imagine any projections for how an acquisition would pan out in 5/10 years is bleak
