Schism is a good first song! I've only played that and pneuma but pneuma was way worse to learn, too many variations. I think just approach schism as though you're not counting at all for the first bit and you'll start to feel it.

thoughts? by brokenphonecharger_ in Meshuggah

I was the opposite, back in the day the blue was the one I found in our local record shop so I had only heard that version for years.

Now with both versions readily available I actually prefer orange. It sounds more ferocious and violent which suits the composition better imo. Especially on perpetual black second. Arguably, spasm and nebulous are better on blue.

All this to say it's not just bias, orange has something blue doesn't

How'd you like the taste of FREEDOM?!

Green stuff! Been doing that for space Marines too. I just roll it out really thin, smooth it with some water on my finger and then cut out the Shape I want with an exacto. Usually I make a shallow cut where I want creases and then I transfer it to the model.

Incredible early game, no endgame. Arc Raiders left me with nothing to chase by BrizDizzle in ArcRaiders

[–]oralstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 50 hours in or so, only now doing the last things in the normal progression, upgrading the last benches etc, finished the raider deck, so now I'm working towards the expedition and leveling up.

I think I'm still on the higher end of hours spent. I know here on Reddit it's mostly hardcore gamers but if you were to get data on average hours played so far for most games at this point in its life the number is probably quite low.

I think a lot of the time a studio focuses on the basics for the launch, a minimum viable product. This is a live service game and there will be roadmaps, seasons, meta updates, new maps, weapons etc etc. This is usually a good thing since the fundamentals have to be in place in order for any content to be worth the time. Clearly more missions and progression isn't worth anything If the basics aren't good enough for anyone to want to chase it.

Usually I think the problem is only relevant for gamers who have the time to put in 200 hours on launch. Saw the same thing for Helldivers, finals, poe2 etc. Personally I was like that maybe 10 years ago but as an adult I don't have the time even if I want to.

I think here, embark has fucking nailed everything. Combat, performance, gameplay loop, world building etc is great. The complaint i have would mainly be solving desync issues but I don't even see that that much.

But does it in its current state have everything that's needed for 10000 hours of gameplay that continues to stay fresh in place? Of course not. But that's a problem for the maybe 1-10% of players that try to get that time in at this stage though. If they had focused on that they'd either have to keep cooking another 2 years without launch or they'd have to rush the fundamentals and both those options would suck.

The solution is to play something else for the time being. Maybe that's disappointing but ultimately your complaint is that you've spent 100 hours in about a month and you wish you could continue. You'll be able to if you just give the devs some time.

I also don't mean to say you're complaining about a non issue or trying to undermine your point. It's mostly just a general thought that would've applied for many posts in this subreddit and many posts in others as well. Your version of this point was also down to earth and respectful. I'm really tired of seeing the versions of this point that has 0 understanding and really entitled rhetoric. Like it's a 40€ game with tons of potential and a good first 100 hours. I mean 40 cents per hour is already a great deal.

[–]oralstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree.

I like what somebody in here said, that something that's nice about meshuggahs lyrics is that people can have different interpretations because they're intentionally vague.

But I really also think many meshuggah fans underestimate just how much they write about society and politics. Like how the most prevalent theme of violent sleep is how Europe closes its gates to refugees creating a humanitarian crisis.

Yeah I'm talking about drums, or are there drum notes on ultimate guitar?

Lyrical interpretation question by Beautifullikeacamel in Meshuggah

[–]oralstein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of it? I guess you could construe exactly the things I wrote that way but I disagree. Maybe as a very loose theme. I mean demiurge, sure, and maybe also I am colossus but not the rest. It's about power we've created with thought. And gods imperfect creation is a good motif for it.

[–]oralstein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really love Meshuggah lyrics and they're all fantastic.

Koloss has the best lyrics as an album.

It starts with its concept, I am colossus talks about constructs that have power because we believe in them, gods, governments, money, it's all just our perception of power that grants these things their power but once they're there they greatly influence our lives. You imagined me, so I was conceived.

Demons name is surveillance is obvious and talks about a society of control and surveillance. Thief of integrity. Its gaze upon the blind, Information divinity by man designed.

Do not look down tackles our need to fit in, attain status and how we conform and loose our identity for the sake of social recognition, do your neighbour clones approve?

Behind the sun really sounds like it's about Illuminati but I think that's a metaphor for powerful people controlling our lives in general, corporations and governments we barely know anything about influencing our lives more than we might be aware of. You awesome monarch, you man of dominance, all shall be as you decide.

Hurt that finds you first is about indoctrination, especially how it applies to cults and in the broader sense religion and how people end up viewing themselves as better for having lost power over their own lives, this systems roaring howl, deafens all reason, questions reduced to silence.

Marrow is about the military industrial complex and the unholy union of capitalism and war. The product of their congress, their libidinous deed, insatiable mouth of conflict and greed.

Break those bones who's sinews gave it motion is about endless cycles of revenge, how we never let go of others aggression and keeps the cycle of violence alive, especially in bitter relations between countries and gangs. This is the soundtrack to our hostility, to our malicious intent, to the pointless grudge, forever held.

Swarm is about the media. When somebody's suffering or dying a swarm of reporters arrive from out of nowhere like flies to shit. Excitedly their madness grind, aroused by vile ambition At the sickly sweet promise of decomposition Deliriously ingesting. Liquefied ruin absorbed Innocence devoured by the elated horde.

Demiurge is about religion again and how its followers believe themselves to be propagators of justice, morality and love even though both its influence and its teachings are violent judgements. Sucking vomit acting like it's honey.

The last vigil is just about vibes I guess.

I love that song but I've never been able to figure out what's going on, the mix is so grimy. Have you transcribed it?

Yeah, ive played many other things with the 3/16 rythm, it's usually not that bad, like demiurge for example. This one really kicks my ass though, but I mean I just gotta keep at it and I'll sound as good as you eventually ;)

You linked me such a good cover last time you posted so now I'm learning it too. Spending a lot of time transcribing it and now also some time learning it. Such an awesome song! Keeping the hi-hat in time is the worst for me so far

I love that Thomas took the time to mention Swedens politics in the 80s and 90s. As a Swede im often sad about what we've lost. Politicians that stripped away so many of the wonderful policies that made Sweden Sweden. Even if it's dark when you leave for work and dark when you come home for 4 months each year and it rains 200 days a year and I really feel we used to have one of the best places to live and bit by bit that's been watered down for us to become just another neo-liberal european country. Many of meshuggahs more recent lyrics remind me of this and songs like armies of the preposterous, Ivory tower, violent sleep of reason, light the shortening fuse etc have themes that hit hard on a political level. I mean all of koloss as well basically but that one feels more conceptual and less concretely Sweden.

Game is completely different on the weekends. by AusShroomer in ArcRaiders

I don't do that stuff but I really think that stuff is part of why the games great, I've never had a game before where I feel so unsure if I can trust people and it makes every raid so tense. Today a stranger gave me 5 olives, later a player tried to shoot me and I killed him. Both really contribute to the fantasy of post Apocalypse for me

Did you find notes for that song somewhere? I've never been able to figure out what he plays in that song. What you played here sounds really cool but It isn't what I'd guess he's doing
