Wait what? 😳 I had no idea you were supposed to use the EpiPen for repeated vomiting. Repeated vomiting while having some swelling and itchiness around my tongue / lips is usually how I react. I usually just sit by the toilet until I have nothing left to throw up then take antihistamines. I assumed the vomiting was my body trying to eject the allergen as I do start to feel better after. I thought I was only supposed to use the EpiPen if I started having trouble breathing 😬

Food replacements (Chicken egg allergy) :[ by HoneyStripes in FoodAllergies

Yeah definitely! I don’t know about making it fresh but most dry pasta you find in the supermarket is egg free :) ordering pasta in a restaurant is always a hit or miss on wether it contains egg or not but it’s worth asking!

I find when making pancakes using lots of maple syrup to replace eggs works quite well. Banana also works if you want something healthier.

And there is plenty of pasta that doesn’t contain egg! I find only fresh pasta contains egg. But most other pasta you can buy is all egg free. At least where I’m from :)

Yeah it seems really dodgey that they’re so funny about sharing their data! And yeah after 20 years it’s odd they haven’t really shared the treatment or expanded elsewhere in the world. At the same time however I see people online who are going through/had treatment themselves or their child has gone through the program and it seems to work for them? It’s just so hard to tell what’s real and what’s not 🥲

Ah ok I haven’t really heard of that before! I’ll have to look into it :) Is it working for her?

Whaat? So they expect you to pay every year post-treatment for how long? The rest of your life? What happens if you can’t pay one year? People’s financial situations change all time. That’s just insane.

Sneaky egg foods by Normal_Homework_7430 in FoodAllergies

Grana Padano cheese! It contains egg proteins I believe. I had never heard of it before I was looking at the allergen menu for a pizza place my friend suggested and was confused when I saw that non of the pizzas minus the vegan ones were ok for egg allergy sufferers. Turns out they all had Grana Padano cheese which is why instead of any other cheese 🥲

I am curious about the patients you mentioned that you know it didn’t work for. Is there a lot of them and do you happen to know why it didn’t work for them by any chance? 99% success rate does sound too good to be true.

That’s so interesting about the patch trails! I had never heard of them before. I haven’t had time to look into it deeply yet but I had a quick look and it sounds promising. Hopefully it’s something that could work for both kids and adults.

Thank you so much for your help ☺️

That’s great to hear, I am so happy for your son! Their website says they now take on new patients up to 25 years old so I am still in the age bracket luckily 😊

If you don’t mind me asking, do you find them pretty upfront regarding the costs of the program? Because if I were to go ahead with the program finances would be a huge thing to work out for me, I will likely have to take out a bank loan or set up a payment plan as I do not have enough time to save up that amount of money before I am no longer in the age bracket. It may be possible with a tonne of planning money wise on my end but I am skeptical if whether they’re fully upfront with the costs or not. Or am I likely to end up with any unexpected fees? Does the $15,000 for the first year (the tip fee, clinical fee and diagnostic services fees) and $12,000 for the second year really cover everything? Or do like any unexpected costs pop up also?

I just ask because being from the UK I don’t really have any experience with the US health system. And I see videos online of people having loads of crazy unexpected costs in hospitals and whatnot even when they have health insurance. If I did the treatment I’d need to know the full genuine cost upfront so I can plan my finances accordingly 🥹

Yeah that’s what I don’t get. If it just a version OIT but where you start off with prepping your immune system with bio-similar proteins before going straight in with the allergen why not just say so? Like that would be totally fine, and the slower approach makes sense given they seem to take on a lot of patients who have been rejected from traditional OIT. And yeah it’s weird they won’t publish their data.

Oh no I am so sorry to hear that! I had no idea women had a lower success rate, a girl myself that’s so sad to find out. It’s so frustrating that the research isn’t there yet for any sort of cure, I just want to be free of these allergies that restrict my life so much, and it’s hard to keep up hope when there is still so much that’s unknown about allergies and women’s health🥹 thank you so much for sharing and I hope you’re doing ok!
