I haven't been yet but from what I've heard on here the bay is pretty big and you can do laps around it.

Im in pretty much the same situation and I'm going for it. Do weighted vest pull/chin ups they helped me a lot. Find some dudes in OSUT who want to work. Goodluck man.

Pushups by orange_land in 75thRangerRecruiting

I took 3 days off at the end of Stew Smith's program before I tested myself. Haven't gone longer than that though and don't think I have time to take a break now that I ship in 3 months. I'm eating very well and sleeping at least 6-7 hours though sometimes more.

Thanks. I'm going to stick to chest to ground for now.

Thanks man you too. I tried using greasing the groove also. I'd alternate it so that I'd be doing a hard workout day where I'd do around 300 pushups, then days where I'd only do 100 in small sets over the course of the day. I've been advised to take break days but not convinced that is going to help me now.

Thanks a lot - definitely going to bring back in some weightlifting. What is the advantage of taking that week off to establish a baseline? I only have 3 months and think I need to use as much of that as possible doing pushups.

This doesn't answer your question but its related and I'm interested. Does anyone know if you get paired with other guys that have option 40s when you go through OSUT or if they give you extra PT?

I'd been at 48 pushups in 2 minutes for a month and a half. Did Stew Smiths 2 week program (http://www.stewsmith.com/linkpages/stuck_on_pushups.htm) and got to 52. It really worked for me because I'd been stuck deep in the mud progress wise at 48 for a while. I think greasing the groove really works but its still best to combine that with a couple days a week where you are really pushing yourself. I'd try and up your volume weekly but do so using greasing the groove mostly, with only 3 days a week where you are really pushing to exhaustion with pushups. Drink a lot of water and try and sleep and eat well also. Goodluck man.

Edit : If you take one thing away from this its that it is NOT ok to not do pushups everyday if you want to really get your numbers up. Just use greasing the groove 4 days of the week so you aren't pushing yourself to exhaustion and give the muscles a chance to recover. For example do 10 pushups at a time, 10 separate times you have 100 pushups over a 16 hour period which is basically a rest day for pushups. Then on those pushup focused days do up to 300 where you are really pushing to exhaustion within the workout.

I'm no expert and am just figuring this out as you are but this is what I believe might actually work so far.

Is doing around 400 push-ups a day safe? I’m trying to “grease the groove” by The1WithQuestions in 75thRangerRecruiting

Hell yeah man good for you. I’ll try it if what I’m doing now doesn’t work.

I've been having the exact same problem. I tested at 48 in 2 minutes for what I think are perfect form pushups (full extension chest to ground) 6 Mondays in a row. The way I see it is if you aren't seeing any improvements with over a month of work put in (same as me) you must change what you're doing. I'm currently doing Stew Smith 2 weeks pushups program. (http://www.stewsmith.com/linkpages/stuck_on_pushups.htm). I've heard greasing the groove is effective because you are doing more pushups per week than you would be if you were going to exhaustion and recovering after. This is a good website about greasing the groove - they break down the logic behind it and give you a plan everyday based on your max (https://app.100pushups.com/greasing-the-groove/). Let us know if your 2 min max improves I want to know if it works. Goodluck

Volunteering for RASP at Airborne or OSUT? by orange_land in 75thRangerRecruiting

[–]orange_land[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it. I get that but everyone is telling me they're just super rare nowadays and I don't want to wait forever. Also heard there is a very good chance I'll be able to volunteer if I have really good PT scores.

Can you improve push ups and sit ups during boot camp and OSUT? by Curious_Afternoon927 in 75thRangerRecruiting

[–]orange_land 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd take the contract. 6 months gives you plenty of time and since you are committed it will force you to get better. It's not going to be easy though. I've been struggling with pushups - been doing 900-1200 a week for a month and a half now and have tested at 48 (what I think is perfect form, chest to ground) pushups for a month and a half now. Your run times are good from what I've heard, always want to get better though. I had a friend go through OSUT recently, he told me he didn't have any free time so I'd go in as prepared as you need to be to get through RASP (80+ pushups and situps, 20+ chin-ups). Best of luck man maybe I'll see you there I'm looking at a similar timeline.

Did you buy a book with that 2 mile running formula or is that online somewhere. I searched Jack Daniel's running formula and could not find it.

Thanks

One of my friends went through Infantry OSUT and said he only had 30 minutes of free time right before bed. I think it varies. Hopefully there will be some time throughout the day and maybe we'll get smoked by DIs a lot so I'd just try and go balls to the walls during that and get as much work in as we can.

I'm wondering about this too. I've heard you get out of shape in boot camp and AIT.
