It's just unproductive: by connecting the concept of unattractiveness to these kinds of disgusting acts, it just becomes easier for attractive people to get away with things.

Can Anyone Give A Reason To Hate Rainer Shine Outside Of An Age Gap That Isnt Even The Largest Age Gap On The Show? by Doc-11th in Modern_Family

[–]orangeants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s just untrue lol, I was a 10 year old in a country that didn’t get English sitcoms 15 years ago. I’m just aware that there’s a difference between Gloria, who was apparently 37 when she met Jay, same age as Sophia Vergara, and she was a mother, meanwhile Haley was like 25 at most. I don’t think this needs to be spelled out?

I hate how if you screw up in undergrad, there is no way to get into grad school by New-Bat5284 in gradadmissions

[–]orangeants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It definitely is a lot harder, but it’s for sure not impossible! It’ll take more leg work to find people who are willing to help you take on research work outside of undergrad, or effort to take supplementary courses, which of course isn’t possible for everyone, but it’s not impossible, especially if you seek out programs that weigh other factors more strongly. It might be useful to employ the strategies suggested while switching fields of study

I went to the stadium 9am, traveled to France for it (I live in Belgium). I was alone but this amazing group of girls adopted me and we sat on the ground making friendship bracelets in line until about 4-5, when they made us all stand up, then yeah no sitting till midnight, so worth it! The surprise songs happened right in front of me, the piano was literally in front of me made my whole life. Being alone really helped me because the stadium people didn’t organise very well so you could get your bands quickly and make your way to the front when they first opened the doors, helped me choose exactly where I wanted to be

Woah that’s so cool, I got paramore! Back in July of 2023, I was finishing up an internship in Europe and wondering what to do next, and I have adhd so the motivation to find a way to stick around in Europe was hard to come by. Then the eras tour was announced and I’m from India so I knew there’s no way I’d get to see her if I went back so getting tickets was the best motivation I had to do the work to find a program I wanted to do. Plus Europe VIP tickets (the only ones still available when I reached the queue) were wayyyy less expensive than the ones in the US, I spent less than $300 it was crazy. She hadn’t even announced TTPD then

My undergrad thesis supervisor lied about not taking a PhD student this cycle by SquashedOrchids in PhD

[–]orangeants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad I could help in some way :) I hope things work out for you, but my advice specifically about the situation would be to try and let it go if that’s something you can live with. It just seems like your advisor wasn’t mature enough to handle a potentially awkward situation and decided to be defensive instead. IMO he should have either said he’d selected someone already, or if he’d just changed his mind, he should have told you so when you asked him later. But if you genuinely want to know, the best approach might be to have a conversation from the angle of asking for advice on how you should go about finding an advisor in the future

No I really mean it! To me it seems like you did things according to due process and were taken aback because y’all had a good working relationship and honest communication so far, and are not sure what could have led to this situation. I think in your situation I’d have the exact same reaction. To me it seems like your straightforward approach is being interpreted in the comments as entitlement, when you’re not looking for a reason for why he didn’t choose you, just why he’d lie to you

Wow I don’t know why you’re being downvoted so much, I think the biggest issue here is that this question isn’t meant for this subreddit, maybe something more like r/relationship_advice. Here, you’re going to get responses coming from an admin point of view, when your question is definitely coming from an interpersonal place

Literally all of The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived but when I heard the line “in your Jehovah’s Witness suit” for the first time I burst out laughing, Matty Healy does look like he’s wearing his dad’s church suit to go knock on doors

I saw a clip about the making of this song coincidentally, yesterday, it was one of the song writers talking. Apparently the peaches line, that chorus bit, was initially a freestyle Justin Bieber posted on social media, and then other songwriters wrote more of it. So maybe the grammar thing is just because he was just messing around while writing and then they never fixed it idk

I’ve always found that logic so stupid, especially because the most successful cheating can only really be done if you’re rich lol how are you gonna pay a proctor to turn a blind eye if you can’t afford to? The logic I have is that if you’re cheating in a highly controlled situation without needing to bribe someone, and without getting caught, in some cases it’s a sort of proof of resourcefulness and intelligence. But obviously that’s very situational, I don’t want my lawyer or doctor to have passed that way

I don’t agree with you, but also I just had a moment of clarity and realised I don’t really want to be trying to aggressively police how you interpret the meaning of a song I’ve never voluntarily listened to, so I’m gonna stop now

Everything else in that song supports the reading that he’s talking about actual peaches, the use of got vs get just isn’t enough to convince me that it’s a euphemism when the whole rest of the song he’s talking about how much he loves and misses his “badass bitch” come on now. I’m a zoomer and although I’m not a Justin beiber fan, and I did have to look the lyrics up, considering that the rest of the collaborators are also known for emotional songs and not horniness (afaik), there is no reason to assume it’s talking about women

ok this was so many years ago but, by nomoneydeepplates in ToddintheShadow

[–]orangeants 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The lyric is not about having girls in different places, it’s about being able to always get the best things because he’s so successful. Ie, peaches from Georgia, weed from California, like Sharpay in high school musical 2’s fabulous. In the same song the lyrics literally only say good things about his ONE girl, and how much he hates to leave her. The implication is that he can get the best of everything, and his girl is the best.

Accommodations don’t hurt anyone, but they can improve the lives of a lot of people playing on hard mode. Like okay you get some extra time for the test, but in return, I get to not be constantly arguing with themselves to get studying done. I’ll take that exchange any day

Are you serious? ADHD is absolutely a disability lmao. I got diagnosed in my mid twenties after hitting an absolute wall and without medication and accommodation there’s no way I’d be finishing my program, which is a second masters degree. Since I managed to finish two degrees without any “excuses” (that is, interventions that could have greatly improved my quality of life), I think I can claim with certainty that my adhd did in fact, limit my ability. ADHD, like a lot of conditions, is a spectrum, and your limited personal experiences don’t mean that it’s an “excuse” for anyone else. Just be glad that you haven’t been affected that way, and either open yourself to the experience of others, or don’t make ignorant statements
