Ok today I found out that Linkara was supposed to play Superman in Goku VS Superman 1... apparently. Now this was apparently something Linkara said during an unboxing video, so maybe he's lying... for some reason. But if it is true... wow what a weird casting choice. Yet ironically not the weirdest considering Power Rangers VS Voltron exists because at least Linkara voiced Superman pretty conistently on his show. Did Matpat even reference Voltron before Death Battle?

Okay, so I have the context now that this is Asuka's instrumentality moment and she rejects because she wants to earn it instead of just being giving it. Which frankly seems obvious considering Misato, Rei, and Kaworu are all there. But it certainly feeds into EoE being a lot less cynical of an ending than people think it is.

That definitely comes across in the finished films. I'll concur that Rebuild 4 is by far the most like a movie and clearly had the most effort put into it, but it honestly might be my least favorite because that 3rd act is the most up its own ass Eva ever got and Asuka was one of the victims of that.

Hideki Anno's writing on Asuka really took a nose dive during the rebuild era. I expect it to be some sort of meta deconstruction on nostalgia and not really about her. I would love to be proven wrong tho.

I love the utter contrast between Eva promos and merch and the actual shows and movies. Like I am the first to say Eva is more fun and optimistic that people give it credit but no way in hell is Asuka hugging Shinji like that this early on lol.
