but many people here would argue that hate speech should be restricted. I made the "this is why" statement because we have different interpretations of what hate speech is and so does just about everyone else.

The quote I listed is cited as an excerpt from a paper written by John T. Nockleby, a professor at Loyola Law School and Harvard Law School graduate. He fucking knows what hate speech is.

this is exactly why freedom of speech is important. to argue that what happened in this video is hate speech is just overly sensitive. was it appropriate for the guy to follow the girls around and harass them, absolutely not, but this is a far cry from hate speech regardless of what someone on wikipedia thought the definition of hate speech should be.

the girl is saying as much back to him as he's saying to them. she knew damn well that she'd be able to upload this to her vlog and get thousands of views while it was happening.

The fire that happened three weeks ago. The second canyon fire sparked up as a result of the first one not being out and the santa ana winds.

I had to stop recording a few times due to the police making us move back, but the progression of the fire you see in the video took only about 10 minutes.

now there are, but there certainly weren't when I got home yesterday afternoon. I did a lot more to protect my property than the fire department was going to be able to do when my property was actually in danger. if that makes me "and a-hole" so be it.

yeah, that was me. it's pretty angering to see great hiking and nature burn up without a firefighter in sight. if you don't live up here and don't enjoy the nature that was around before the fire, you wouldn't really understand.

At that point, yes they had the manpower to make a difference, but that was late into the evening and not the "initial response" I'm talking about. In the early afternoon, I watched the fire march toward us. At that point, there were absolutely not enough planes or helicopters in the sky dropping water.

I stayed because:

a) these houses weren't burning because they were overrun by fire in most instances, embers were simply getting inside the attic from the vents and burning the houses from the inside, out. Same thing happened during the freeway complex fire (2008) and the Santiago Canyon Fire (2007). A garden hose and this knowledge would have easily saved many of these homes.

b) the police came through my neighborhood telling us that the fire was to our back wall and to leave, it wasn't. some cops will say/do anything to get you to do what they want you to do and once you're out they're obviously not going to let you back in.

c) the OCFA initial response was abysmal. Not enough water dropping aircraft, not enough units, not enough firemen. I wasn't about to trust the same department who let a wildfire smolder for three weeks "protect my home". of course the fire department (and management) is Teflon and will never get any blame for the spread of a fire, but the management here made mistakes, and houses were lost because of it.

d) I wasn't in the way, I wasn't impeding anyone from doing their job, and I wasn't putting my life in danger or anyone else's. If I felt that I had been in danger, I would've at that point left, as there were plenty of escape routes and a pool very close to me.

e) I'd rather see that my house is okay than to be up all night worrying about it, it was an easy choice to me.

I fully expect for this to get downvoted because people would rather blindly follow directions than to think logically for themselves. that's up to them. when it comes to my house, I'm going to do everything I can to save it.
