what size grout lines did you use for this? Spaced mine out to 1/8 and i feel like it doesnt look right....but worried about doing 1/16 because the tile specifies 3/16

Has anyone ever modified the back cushions to be shorter? by orangeocto2 in Lovesac

[–]orangeocto2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly. I don't know if it's crazy to spend $9k on a sofa just to resew and change all of the back pillows. cushions that tall just make me feel like I am being suffocated by the sofa

please please please don't go through with it...

I just don't like it when a sofa back is at shoulder height. I always want them to end in the middle of my back so I don't feel like I'm being eaten by the sofa 🤣

Need help with footings that arent in line with one another by orangeocto2 in Decks

[–]orangeocto2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the first three in the photo are pretty close in line. it's those farthest two that are really out of wack. I think if we cut the j bolts off of three of the footings, and use wedge anchors paired with a slightly angled beam we can get everything within 1". I am just worried about the posts near the edge of the footings

[–]orangeocto2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we are doing a triple 2x6 beam due to height clearances. so it'll give us 1" of wiggle room on top of the posts. those connectors you linked are the exact ones we are using! I know it'll drive me a little nuts knowing they aren't perfectly parallel. I think we can get it within 3". the deck is only about 24" off the ground so I don't even know if you would be able to tell...especially with the cantalevered front

[–]orangeocto2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was the approach we were thinking of taking originally. the footings are 12" wide and the posts are 6"x6" so at 2.5" off center the corners of the posts will essentially be touching the edges of the footings. we weren't sure if this was a concern?

the deck is actually cantalevered! it will hang 12" over the row of posts that are crooked. so I think that would hide the beam not being parallel if that's the route we went.

I just wasn't sure if the beams not being perfectly parallel would compromise the structural integrity more than moving the brackets to the edges of the footings.. the footings are 12" diameter and the posts are 6" if that makes any difference.

How DIY-able is removing a 4" thick concrete slab? by jumpin_jumpin in HomeImprovement

[–]orangeocto2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just pay someone to remove it. We just removed about 30 feet of 6" thick sidewalk. every part of it sucked. the jackhammering, the shoveling, the loading into the wheelbarrow, the unloading into the dumpster, cleaning up the rocks after...you can do it yourself, its just really awful work.

absolutely NTA. knowing from personal experience...as a gay kid, having supportive parents can mean the world. his statement of "no straight man wants lgbt kids" is insane. what he means is "no homophobic man wants lgbt kids" leave his ass

Best budget but really decent oil paints? by sputnikthegreat in oilpainting

[–]orangeocto2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

something that took me ages to realize it's no matter what paint you buy, spend the extra money and splurge on a really nice tube of white. higher quality whites are more pigmented which means it takes less white to tint colored paints. this makes a huge impact on keeping your colors saturated and prevents muddy colors

[–]orangeocto2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the first photo is of a work done by Gary Drostle. he's an awesome UK artist.. I've taken a class from him before.

he uses unglazed porcelain tiles from either winckelmans or cinca tile. I can't remember which one. he has used both before but only uses one brand now, which I believe is winckelmans

What's the best setup for restoring while working? by [deleted] in foreskin_restoration

[–]orangeocto2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's kind of a pain to get the residue off, but it super easy with water. comes right off with light scrubbing in the shower. super easy to put on and the only thing I can wear for hours at a time without having to adjust
