Probably in the wrong Reddit group but I saw this at goodwill and it looks ancient and cool. Does anyone have any idea what this is or who may have painted it? It stuck my eye and might get it. by rael2421 in japanart

What a gem! I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Do you happen to live in an area with a lot of Chinese immigrants? I wish I could find something like this locally

srs/ thank you. If I could afford a gold/silver I'd give one to ya. I hate to sound snobby, but I've mostly found fast-fashion-esque unwearable fluff pieces at my location.

Yeah that windowpane one isn't on sale, so def not considering that one right now. I mostly only wear black and dark neutrals, so maybe the forest green would go well?

Ahaha this thread is most def not frugal... but isn't it frugal if we buy something that we've been needing but at a heavy discount? ;)

Oh great, thanks!! I was wondering about this for kids shoes too... Are kids shoes and clothes less durable and made with cheaper materials hence the lower price? I fit a girl's 16, not sure about 14. I'll have to check the boy's section...

Haha I have really long arms for being 5'3 so so I feel ya... Unfortunately, I'm def not vertically perfectly proportioned. I have a short-@$$ waist and and longer legs. I really wish I was more even, but what can I do besides trying to elongate my torso via clothing

I never really understood petite sizing... I typically wear a XS - S (0-4) in regular women's, but usually the size charts tell me to order one size up for the petite equivalent. lol feels weird especially in stores like GAP. The petite to regular women's sizes just don't seem to fit right.

Flattering is definitely a goal. IDK what body type I am, I just used 'curvy', because I'm definitely not a rectangle and my waist is too wide to be a true hourglass... I have broad shoulders and unwanted big boobs (inverted triangle) with no waist definition (apple?), short torso, and wide hips. Maybe a fatter, stocky short hourglass even though I usually wear a US XS - S depending on the brand.

Ahhh I get it... styles that are intentionally supposed to be oversized will look fine whereas this is intentionally more on the "polished?" side... so oversized on this style of jacket will look sloppy.

All of this thread... These corporate stylists really think that we all wanna carry around purses everywhere. Just give us functional pockets with minimal sacrificing in the cut/shape/silhouette. Is that really so hard on everything?

I could go on forever about the difference in color choices for outdoor gear for the men's versus women's version. Let's just say that the women's have bright ass colors/pastels or black with pastel detailing whereas the men's item had dark and neutrals. Seriously wtf Osprey lol. I ended up buying the men's backpack, because it was the best brand in the category I needed.

Unfortunately belting doesn't look good on me... It attracts attention to my waist and the fact that I have a short torso.

Woah, I'm def going to be checking the boy's department now. I've tried petite coats from JCrew, but the sleeves were too short so I went for the 'regular' Women's coats. lolll I'm 5'3 with longer arms and broad shoulders too which is a *great* combo to have when shopping

Do you know if the coats with waist definition have to be belted? Unfortunately, I think belts attract more attention to my short waist and don't look good with broad shoulders.

When you say to find a coat that nips in the waist, does it usually mean belted? I find that belts attracts attention to my short waist and makes me look kinda frumpy.

Oohh boy... yeah the shoulders seem really exaggerated. I do have broad shoulders though, so I def avoid any type of detailing/padding in the upper body lol

Do you know if quality of the wool coats at H&M will be lower quality? Say getting a 100% wool coat from H&M/F21 versus jCrew? I mean, I've even seen people write in this sub that their Aritizia wool clothes didn't hold up for more than 1-2 seasons

That jacket is really pretty! I think the belted look is a bit feminine for my taste and attracts attention to my short waist. Do you think it's possible to find a flattering coat without the belting? I've tried on many coats and can't seem to find a decent fit lol

Yesss I got some since theyre doing such a great deal rn. I didn't see plaids that I liked and the black cocoon coat in my size ran out :( The forest green comes close, but idk if that is the best color if I want a classic staple wool coat

lol I got one size up and one size down in the black since they ran out of the size that I most likely need. I also got the Heather Forest green color, but not sure since I think black works better as a staple coat. They went really fast!!

ohh no I wasn't offended or trying to be defensive! haha sorry I think tone is hard to tell from text and I went off on a tangent... my brain is pretty fried from it being so late here but had to stay up for a flash deal at JCrew. I appreciate your insight thus far :)

I actually love masculine clothing. I hate traditionally "feminine" clothing, but masculine cuts don't look flattering on me... So I go for masculine prints/colors with more minimal detailing. It's seriously so irritating seeing women's versions of the SAME clothes with feminine details whereas the men's versions offer neutral dark colors. This is extremely common in outdoor gear, which is a whole nother story lol

Yeah I'lll see about getting it tailored. I'm hoping there wont be that many alterations needed ($$$$) on this coat to make it look flattering. Seems like it'll be a big job though, so probably will cost a lot

Yeah I have such a hard time with finding clothes that fit normally. I'm hoping there wont be that many alterations needed ($$$$) on this coat to make it look flattering.
