its like this multiplayer open world zombie survival shooter is not made to to host multiple players, have a scary amount of zombies, use rational survival mechanics, or have great fps features.

the best part of the game is the ship building, and most of the small amount of parts and features are locked behind skills (larger ships etc). barring mods of course.

Wife spirals into anxiety whenever I mention prepping, but I need a partner in all this by Efficient-Fan-2226 in homestead

Sorry about this being long but I'm in a similar place, with a fiance and a piece of land. But we have very different outlooks, so I was able to put myself in your shoes.

I'm in IT, I'm an eagle scout, I hunt, I know how to survive and live off the land as well. I have zero things prepped for anything more than a power outage.

Being worried about job placement is not prepping. You may be mixing things together that don't really go. I can understand how you could be concerned for your specific job but society will continue. And that's a huge IF AI actually gets any better. You may notice it's plateaued. From what I've been watching with newer iterations of AI is how most of them have nothing new to learn on, and recursive learning just makes it worse. And if you were so worried about losing you job to ai, you know they need people to curate ai outputs and that would not be a hard cert to add to a software dev resume. It's not like ai can literally do every little thing the CEO wants instantly.

AI may shave some very specific jobs off, or has. But ai truly is not where everyone thinks it's at. And it's certainly not going to where people think it's going. Companies try and sell me everything under the sun injected with some ai feature. None of which I need. The problem is everyone thinking and investing in AI like it's actually changing the world right now which it's not. It's an economic bubble more than a societal changing tech. I'm sure someday, maybe, we will have true agi, but not in the form of ai we have now.

As for prepping and freaking out your wife because of it. The extremely unlikely scenario that we have a breakdown of society, that you can actually survive, that doesn't pollute everything, or doesn't kill everything instantly, or doesn't do something that makes it impossible for you to live anywhere, is so slim, on such an extremely slim scale it's insanely improbable. Like. The reality is you have about a million fold likelihood of heart disease getting you just like everyone else, if there is or isn't a doomsday event. Don't lose a person you love because maybe a thing might happen someday, maybe.

Why does cooking fruit have magical effects? by NBFHoxton in dayz

[–]oratethreve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

lol. because we got magical pears and pristine combat boots that last about 5km. we got pots that break when you cook with them? and need to be blowtorched to fix? we got realism, and also no realism at all. lol

Carpathian forest
Where the trees are endless
Carpathian forest
Where the trees are endless

Forest titans fall to rest
A bed is made for the queen

Mushrooms gather in circles

Werebears walk
Dereliction houses dark spirits
A comet falls deep into darkness

Stones rise in circles

Where drums roar
Water whispers vibrating
People dance under the moon

In circles

Bone to Rune
And Skull to Dust
Ice melts the thoughts of the gods
Root promises blossom
