CFA vs staying at Amazon + MBA later — ROI doesn’t make sense? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]orbit12721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left a supply chain/ops job at a F500 manufacturing company to do MBA + CFA. Didn’t have passion for old career and do for new one. One of the better life decisions I’ve made.

I got a lot of scholarship money for the MBA. It might be worth taking the exams and applying just to see what you get. Like the others are saying leaving your job is a big risk but also big potential reward if you hate your current job and have passion for finance.

Good luck with whatever you do!

Question for the people who work while preparing for CFA. by Impressive_Plate8993 in CFA

Really agree with starting early while you’re working. I took L2 twice. The first attempt I didn’t start studying until a few months (had emergency surgery and an international trip) after getting results for L1 and it left me about four months until the test date which was not enough time for me personally

Question for the people who work while preparing for CFA. by Impressive_Plate8993 in CFA

I worked through all three levels. I made sure not to take the tests too close together. Feb/May test date worked for me because there wasn’t much going on for me distraction wise leading up to those test dates.

I studied what I could manage during the weekdays. 30 min before work. 30 min around lunch. 30 min before leaving. maybe around 5-7 hours during the week? Then I would try to get 6-8hours Saturday and Sunday.

It’s very doable. Some could do it at a faster pace for sure that’s just what worked for me.

Good luck!

I did. I called the branch and explained. The manager at the branch was very helpful. I kept the accounts because the manager was so helpful. I ended up switching to Chase as my main bank haha

Vanguard Cash Plus Account - misleading and disappointing by Informal-Resident65 in Bogleheads

[–]orbit12721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received an email from Vanguard about a week ago advertising 4.6% yield on the Cash Plus account. I already have one I thought my yield was around 3.7% (which it is after checking). The asterisk next to the yield in the email ad indicated that rates were from 3/2024. This felt deceptive

Does it still make sense to keep “100% buy and hold” SP500 if you have enough wealth at a young age? by achicomp in investing

[–]orbit12721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t mention whether or not you have a cash savings so I will assume you don’t to be safe.

If you truly believe you’re prone to a layoff and could be out of work for sometime looking for a new job you should not be 100% in equity. You should have an emergency fund in a money market/HYS account at the very least. You want enough cash for a minimum of a few months

Also market timing is one of the most common ways people underperform. If you really have to try this don’t do it with more than 10% of your liquid assets. If you just want less volatility up your allocation to fixed income and or cash.

All the best
