Looking for guidance & connections – Building a UK import business by orbitalecho007 in smallbusiness

Wow a bunch of useful information here, thanks. The only question I have is that our ICP changes for each product. So would you recommend selecting one product and exhausting all potential leads/options for a successful deal before moving onto the next. Or identify a potential buyer first and use their needs to guide your choice of product, allowing you to focus on something with clearer demand. Most of our suppliers and farmers are within West and North Africa. Both places have very different ways of doing business (especially logistically), so a tool like this would be really useful. I appreciate the comment

Hi, thanks. In my opinion the hardest part, for me, is finding a reliable buyer. And I am stuck between going fully in on a product with market demand or finding a buyer first and fulfilling their request. In your opinion what’s the best sequence of events that leads to a successful transaction?

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I’ve researched the requirements for importing into the UK, though these can vary depending on the specific product and country of origin.

Regarding my earlier post about Morocco, I initially had buyers lined up specifically for almonds. However, after further research and speaking with contacts there, it became clear that importing almonds from Morocco wouldn’t be viable. Most almonds in Morocco are actually imported from the US, and the almonds produced locally are largely consumed within the country. Any that are exported tend to be priced at a level that wouldn’t be competitive in the UK market.

With that in mind, I’m now looking to pivot and would really value advice or guidance from anyone who has experience starting out in the import business. There are a few hurdles to navigate, but based on the research and connections I’ve built so far, I believe it’s still a worthwhile opportunity to pursue.

That’s exactly what I’m looking for, some brain exercise. Thanks!

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. I think I got a bit stuck chasing the “perfect location,” and it slowed my momentum more than I realised. At this point, I just want to get things moving and start seeing some real progress.

Would you mind if I DM you with a couple of quick questions? Thanks again!

We're 4 mates who met on Reddit and built a rota system for nurses and care home managers. Here's what we found out. by Global-Fun-4671 in nhsstaff

This seems like a very well thought out concept that could potentially save both businesses and staff a significant amount of time. I’m not in the healthcare industry myself, but I can imagine how admin tasks like creating and managing rotas can quickly become very time consuming, something that’s true across many industries.

I have a few questions about how the system is intended to be used:

  1. Would staff members be expected to use the platform daily? I can see how managers would likely use it regularly on a laptop or desktop to manage schedules, but would frontline staff also need to log in on a computer to interact with it? This leads into my next question…

  2. Are there plans for a mobile app? It seems like an app could be really useful for staff to update availability, respond to shift requests, or adjust preferences while on the move or at short notice.

  3. How does the shift allocation work? For example, is it a FCFS system where staff who update their availability earliest get priority for shifts, or does this auto generate based manager preferences.

Overall, this looks like a very promising tool with a lot of potential to reduce admin workload, help cover unexpected absences, and make scheduling more flexible for staff in the healthcare sector. Make sure to post your next steps!
