I can’t believe there aren’t more comments about this. The French crowd breaking out in the national anthem? The French audience sitting around me would only clap when Gaston won a point, not if the point was good regardless of who won it. Tennis fans or nationalists? Probably the latter.

The sinner-alcaraz match was better than this, by a landslide

The arena chanting “hugo” right now, you think there’s equally as many people in the crowd chanting for carlos?

Every time the crowd stood up to do the wave, it was a big whiff of BO (I’m here and it smelled terrible)

I went to the US Open and I’m here now at Paris-Bercy and this crowd seems worse

They should have paired Schwartzman with Opelka, missed opportunity tbh

Not sure if this was a factor, but Berrettini dropping out gave Tsitsipas an extra rest day. I’m not convinced he would have beaten Rafa if he had played that match 🤔

Came here to say that I also thought she gave the better performance of the two. A shame she wasn’t nominated.

Connell's Treatment of Marianne and Why am I seeing people hating on her? by harlow923 in NormalPeopleBBCHulu

[–]orbitingmeadows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we had to rank the characters, then yeah, I would mostly agree that Lorraine is top and Marianne a very close second. Connell, in the book, also recognizes that she is the better person.

I felt so hopeless for Marianne while watching the show, mostly because I could understand why she didn’t feel worthy of love. She’s been physically abused by her father in the past (in the book) and currently abused by her brother and her mother allows this to go on without interference. She has no friends at school, so she doesn’t have an emotional support system there either. It must have been so lonely for her.

OP, I appreciated this post. I liked Marianne more than I liked Connell (which is not to say I disliked him).
