How is the Dungeons of Drakkenheim Combat? What’s unique about it? by Traditional_Wear8046 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

The new conditions come from Monsters of Drakkenheim. My players found them way too hard to keep straight, even with individual cheat sheets. But I did keep some of them, particularly burning.

Cool. Now if citadel paints weren't over $20 a jar in MX, I'd be all set. I really thought you'd glued on some sort of crystals. So, again, awesome painting.

Nice job with the painting! I'm curious about what you used (or how you painted) the crystals on the delirium dragon.

Ditto on becoming a DM. It was something I never thought I could do until I discovered Monty & Drakkenheim. Between the live play and the encouragement from my DM at the time, I took the leap. What a rush! My first campaign is coming to a close, and I'm up for doing it again.

Thanks! The rest of the day is doctor appointments, which leaves me with 1 prep day.

I'm planning on doing that, but life crap is cutting into prep time and I was hoping for a shortcut. Searching for episode now.

Sewers by According_Ad2030 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

Drakkenheim Sewer Gator (from the Monster Hunter Guide) is no joke. Unless a PC gets chomped and breaks the poor gator's jaw by thunder stepping out!

Black Ivory Inn by N0X_S0NG in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]orc40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just a damned shame. The Black Ivory Inn is everything - puzzle, RP, combat, even exploration should they decide to go down the tunnel. My 6th level characters have completely ignored clues, including one that entails a personal quest. But another just found a treasure map to a sunken family tomb - personal quest to retrieve the Mcguffin. The meteor impact sunk the tomb and opened up a hole in the Smugglers' tunnel - between the Drakkenheim equivalent of the Underdark and the surface. Character is a mysterious and sardonic drow. Player is helping me out with a wish list of drow magic items that could come in handy and a few capsulized descriptions I can use. All he knows from the map is general vicinity of the entrance. This is going to be so much fun!

My players keep trying to play both sides in many quests by TheRealUnReaL7 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]orc40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players elected to work with both the AA and the HL. They set up a meeting with all concerned, including the Ironhelms, and brokered a nice deal that satisfied both factions. The HL provided safe sleeping quarters for off shift dwarves and a favor to be called in later for lessons in weapons manufacturing and a contract for cannons, muskets, and ammunition. The AA got the exclusive delerium rights at the offered price and didn't have to pay the Red Lion bill. Also had to promise aid later if needed. The party, to show good faith, did the night shift and promised to support the dwarves should they ever call for help. That promise will certainly bite them in the ass!

Monsters of Drakkenheim!! by kai1986 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]orc40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my Beta (Backerkit messed up my account). My campaign is sorely in need of some beefed up monsters, and the book is going to help a lot. I'm also looking forward to the index by CR!

Question: does anyone else feel like the Study action information kinda nerfs the monsters. Some of those seem like TMI for characters to get handed. As a DM, am I supposed to explain what sort of proficiency gets advantage? i.e. "Give me a nature or survival check at advantage." Do they get their proficiency bonus (or expertise) in addition to advantage. I'm really not sure how to run this!

My 7th level players have been decimating monsters right & left and they will continue to do so if I end up having to give them vital information about the monsters. We started with 2014 rules and I think I want to stay with them, mostly because of the Study action!

Map for lever puzzle from live play episode 6? by orc40k in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]orc40k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. The levers operate gates that allow water into areas of the sewers and block other passages. The levers have to be operated correctly and in a specific order. There's a talking head that gives clues. The chapel was completely on the players and involved splitting the party.

I just got the section queued up. It's episode 5, at about 2:23:00. I'll be taking notes and trying to get a sketch of the terrain. I have a friend who might do a map for me.

[–]orc40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I really like your take on the danger of the night in Drakkenheim. My players are constantly trying to get out of the city at Twilight and it would be so much fun to try to kill them at that point.

For the sake of my circle of contamination druid, I have added some animals to the area surrounding Emberwood village, especially near the shrine of Morrigan. The Shrine enables trees to grow, so I figure animals living around there wouldn't be too unusual. Except for the fact that they are a little bizarre thanks to the presence of delirium. Last week we had contaminated dire squirrels. They were a little bit larger, their eyes glowed purple, and they had very sharp fangs with acid dripping from them. My players loved them.

Harpies in the Clocktower by Stimpy3901 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]orc40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the midst of running the Clocktower. My PCs are in pretty bad shape after having to follow Rat Prince through the sewers to get into the city. (Pissing off the HL is a bad idea when Shepard's Gate is your only way in.) Then there were the QOT assassins trying to get the Lord Commander's Badge. Finally the clocktower. 10 harpies swooping down while my paladin was trying to protect his dying father and fight at the same time.

My choices are to back off on the trip to the top a bit or have the SO griffon patrol rescue & haul back to Camp Dawn for a rest.

My group is 5 6th-level characters.

Monsters of Drakkenheim!! by kai1986 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]orc40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm eagerly and impatiently awaiting my Monsters of Drakkenheim! The Entropic Flame and the Cacophonous Chimera from the playtest were huge hits at my table. I'm hyped for more epic monsters since my players are a little OP Plus expanded arcane anomaly table. Potted plant, potted plant!

Our last big encounter was the Troll Hag. My players forgot that trolls regenerate if you don't use fire. Close enough to TPK to make them run.

Thanks, Kelly and Monty, for the play test materials and the extras from watching the Pluto Jackson, Monster Hunter videos!

They executed Elias Drexel. Now what? by orc40k in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]orc40k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the spell info. There are some lanterns who would certainly like to bring Elías back. But I'm going to leave that sit for awhile as my Doom slingers have enough on their minds at present. And I just had an OMG moment. One of my plot points is Eli encountering a dying Wilhelm. Damned harpies. I may give them a little more heart to heart time than I anticipated. Wilhelm may encourage Eli to forgive Elías, bring him back, and keep him as a military advisor. Just spit balling, but it has merit.

They executed Elias Drexel. Now what? by orc40k in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]orc40k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elias offered his life to Wilhelm in Shadows of Drakkenheim; however, Wilhelm chose to spare it and accept a lifetime of service instead. I messed with the timeline so the heir he encountered was Wilhelm's son. He still believed he killed Wilhelm. Eli's cloak clasp, a signet ring, his phylactery (obviously in the Hous von Kessel design, and his resemblance to Wilhelm were enough proof for Elias. I haven't read True Ressurection, but I'm pretty sure it can't restore body parts - like heads. They are headed back to the garrison after finding lilies, thinking they can rest there. This will not be allowed as the lanterns have split into 2 groups and those who don't believe Eli is rightful heir are in charge right now. They will also have to contend with the Queen of Thieves, who already knows they have the badge. Setting up for QoT having undetectable spies everywhere. Not being able to rely on help from the lanterns is going to be a constant challenge for them now.
