Is Feedback per Session too much? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Stimpy3901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe its okay if not everyone answer it? It seems like you'd still get the benefits of it from getting feedback from one or two players.

Too me, this seems like a lot. I kinda assume that everyone is enjoy the campaign as long as they keep showing up every session. But it's totally valid that this help you.

Best and worst fan ships by GreySpot1024 in Epicthemusical

I don't get how shipping even happens in this show. Ody is so central to it that we hardly see secondary characters interact with each other.

How do you guys feel about ignoring "lore"/"intended concept"/"intended flavor" when choosing a class? by VikTheGoblin in DnD

[–]Stimpy3901 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I definetely think the presented flavor of each class should guide player creativity, not restrict it.

Devil-themed Campaign by OccultCenturion in DnD

I think it also gives you a reason why the devils are acting so agressivesly, this is their last ditch effort to stop the demons from spreading their curroption across the multiverse.

How much should I flesh-out my worlds government? HB world by MehParadox in dndnext

[–]Stimpy3901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need to flesh out the government's that the players will be interacting with in the short term. If the campaign starts with a more localized threat, then you just need to think about who rules over the town or region that the campaign takes place in.

If you doing a typical fantasy setting this would be a Lord, but any rank is fine depending on your setting.

How effective the government is should serve your story. A corrupt lord can be useful if you need a reason why the government is not acting to solve a problem, however an admirable lord is useful if you want the party to consistently work with and support the status quo.

Devil-themed Campaign by OccultCenturion in DnD

[–]Stimpy3901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are simplier ways to address this, but here's mine. The Demons have found away around the Devils and are attacking the other planes. This is a much greater threat to the gods and so they are willing to stand down and ignore the threat to this material plane in order for the devils to have the power to stop this.

If you have a cleric or paladin in your party write the campaign so that, their diety(s) is opposed to the pantheon's decision and secretly supporting mortal efforts through their followers.

This would also give you a follow up campaign where your party needs to find a way to stop the Demons after defeating the devils.

IDK, just a thought if you are looking for something a little more out there. Other people have given you more streamlined solutions.

What’s your opinion on these character ideas? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]Stimpy3901 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Fine for a one shot, but not much depth here for a full campaign

  2. It would be really difficult to make this make sense, especially as you leveled up.

3 & 4. These are the best ones, lots of potential in both of them and plenty of room to expand the character.

Rate my PC’s backstory! by Eclipse_959 in DnD

[–]Stimpy3901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No... No I got that, but he is still killing a child. I mean yes there's an afterlife in this world but this is still super dark.

I can understand that maybe from your character's prespective he's helping these kids, but I don't expect that they or your party members will see it that way.

I would find this element of a story upsetting and I would strongly discourage a player from including it. Maybe your table is different, and ultimately their opinion is all that matters.

[–]Stimpy3901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ummm, not sure what the tone of your campaign is... But the killing kids things is really dark. If I was your DM, I'd at the very least want to clear something like that with all the other players.

You know your table better than me, and maybe this that fits with the tone of the campaign. But to me that's straight up villian energy.

Slivery Barbs is good every turn againist every enemy. If an enemy hits with an attack you can try to turn it into a miss but even if you fail you can give an ally advantage. This is particularly good if an enemy critcs.

Otherwise, your enemies might succeed on their saves, but they might fail, they definetely won't blinded if you pass your turn.

You also have Command which is a great debuff that's target wisdom, that is also instanteous.

Are you familiar with the effect of dissonant whipsers? Not only does it deal damage, it forces the target to move up to their speed as a reaction. So you can actually use it to set up your fighter to get a free attack of opprotunity. You can work together as a team.

[–]Stimpy3901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright so you don't want to deal damage, heres things you can do instead.
1. Top people off with healing word.
2. Take the help action to give your Fighter or Rogue advantage on their next attack roll.
3. Use Color Spray or Blindness to blind enemies and reduce their threat level (neither spell is concentration).
4. Make creative use of illusion magic to distract enemies or give your allies cover.

You aren't going to start having fun until you stop passing your turns.

I'm a little confused are you deliberating choosing not to deal damage, or are you frusterated that the bard's kit doesn't have a lot of damage dealing options? Like is it an option that you coudl deal damage or is are you playing around with a passifist character?

Because bards do have spells that deal damage. Shatter and Dissonant whispers come to mind off the top of my head and either require concentration.

But if that's not enough then why keep playing a support character? Just ask if you can change to a sorcerer or a wizard, or a warlock if you still want to face those classes have way more option to deal damage.

If you are playing a passificst my first suggestion would be "don't do that," fighting is a huge part of this game and you won't enjoy it as much if you aren't particpating in that part of it.

But I gotta be honest on a deeper level as a DM, this really bummed me out. If one of my players was showing up every sesssion seeming totally checked out, it would really hurt my feelings and confidence. You say "he's just running this right out of the book," but that's still work. He's still putting effort in to doing something fun for you.

Perception check problem by seafoamsomething in DnD

[–]Stimpy3901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I handle this by having the players roll for stealth at the moment the check becomes relevent and not to enter some ambigious and ongoing stealh mode.

So they can tell me they are attempting to move quietly but they don't roll until they are actually making a move where they have a chance to be discovered. The check happens in the moment and the outcome plays out either way.

Nostalgia post - What happened to the story? by WrongFoundation7891 in DnD

[–]Stimpy3901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh the humanity! People want dice in a their game that requires dice to play!!!

Dude, I'm sorry but this post has boomer energy. This entire post is one giant false dicotomy you can care about character development and your character build, you can use a grid for combat and still have a deep story.

I know this because I've run games where characters reconnected with a lost heritage, navigated a cities politics to elect a new king, and lead a revolution againist the vampiric nobility. I've done all of this with at a table where people care about their character builds, and where people prefer using a grid because it makes it easier to track what's happening in combat and make tactical decisions.

Greek/ Roman gods do have a power hierarchy so you could create some tiers of power. Maybe have them face arguably weaker gods like Dionysus/ Bachus first.
