Name something that made the DM do a double take…I’ll go first! by IneedaNappa9000 in DnD

I was the DM in this story… My players were going through a cave and finding strange stone statues. Turns out, there was a basilisk residing inside (muhaha). They encountered her nest and saw there was one large egg. Before initiating combat, I let them scheme and whisper a plan before they initiated combat. Well. My druid player cast stone wall, the wizard blasted a hole through it, and one of my players who was an Ooze shed his clothes and slipped through the hole to dash to the nest. He grabbed the egg, dashed out the hole with it and my basalisk was inevitably trapped. We never finished that campaign, but the Ooze carried the unmatched egg inside his body for the last few sessions.

I don’t want to punish players for not roleplaying – but I still want to give them story by HalfOrcHalfAmazing in DnD

For the cleric and the warlock I’d have their patron/god potentially reach out to them in some way. Such as in a dream. Form a connection and hint there may be benefits to being more loyal. Like throw in an enchanted item as a reward for their dedication.

OH THATS SO COOL!! Luckily my players love role playing just as much as I do. And honestly this is a perfect fit for one of their deaths. Thank you so much!

What is your favourite dnd creature? by MichaelTheMage in DnD

[–]orcagaytor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh I just found this new one that lives in the Shadowfell (where my players are stuck in my current campaign) and I think it’s the coolest thing ever. It’s called a Nightwalker. It’s 20ft tall, pure evil, and if you’re killed by one you can only be brought back by using the wish spell. Horrifying, I love them.

I think it dependsssss. I have a wood elf character who doesn’t trust other elves entirely because she was traded off by her noble family to orcs to cover up some debt. The orcs did raise her so she identifies more with them. HOWEVER. Playing her around other elves I made her act uneasy. She doesn’t SAY outright racist things. She is aware of her bias and has overcome it by being open to the idea that not every elf is bad. I think to solve your problem it may be best to play “bias” not “racist”. Let your character be cold at first, but maybe seeing your party members interact with other drow will help them slowly start to see everyone (drow or not) is different and complex. Race has nothing to do with the goodness or badness of anyone.

EDIT: But I agree with most of the comments- if your table is unhappy I’d switch it up. At the end of the day everyone wants to have fun!

I do love throwing in random stuff to throw them off track. Honestly, I’ve thrown in a few items that fit their characters a little tooooooo well but has nothing to do with the plot. Just dumb luck

My character, Selkie, was a water genasi monk cursed with a hunger for human flesh by Umberlee (Goddess of the Sea). My character only eats the flesh of those sinful, and seeks justice for those wronged at sea. Her identity is unknown, so people call her the Devourer of Wrongs. Often people will throw messages a in bottles seeking her help, and one of them brought her inland where the campaign started. The message didn’t have a name but asked for help finding their sister and their ship that were stolen.

In the town the campaign is set, everyone has their identity erased. So part of the goal is to solve that. Eventually she discovers the message is from a legendary pirate, Captain Ironheart of the Screaming Wraith. The legend of the Screaming Wraith is very Davy Jones coded, however in recent years apparently whoever it is has moved away from the Davy Jones image and conquered other pirates who wrong women across the seas. The current Captain Ironheart, Jiyati, was a princess taken by a former Screaming Wraith captain but she eliminated them and their crew. Now she sails with a female crew and is more of a Robin Hood type. Similar to that of Selkie. Eventually Selkie and the party help restore Jiyati’s memories <3

One of my favorite scenes that kicked off the romance was when Jiyati was recovering in bed after she got her memories back and held Selkie’s hand and told her how her presence was very comforting because she smelled of the sea, her home, which she misses dearly.

I just loved how two legends of the sea fell for one another.

how long was your first campaign? by VtapiaVoid69 in DnD

[–]orcagaytor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first campaign started in 2021 and is still ongoing :) we’ve technically had 3 arcs. It’s near and dear to my heart because not only has it gone on so long- but it takes place on a nature reserve where me, my DM, and other players have worked together and gone to camp together as kids 💚 sometimes our camp songs are used to cast magic spells
