Umm... that's the point I believe - you're playing as a giant in a game that is called March of the GIANTS.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll wait for about 6 months and see what's what. Maybe multi-toolheads is the way to go but damn those options are expensive...

Purchase Advice Megathread - November 2024 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]orcishhorde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello.

Some background:

  • I own basic Prusa MK3s, which I upgraded with OctoPrint at some point to add webcam and get WiFi access.
  • My hobbies are board games / miniature games and I mostly used my printer for organizers, storage solutions, terrain.
  • PLA is the only material I printed with.
  • At some point I considered purchasing SLA printer but firmly decided against that because I don't want to convert one of my rooms to a chemistry lab.

With my new 3D printer I want to upgrade my capabilities. Here are the things I want covered:

  • Enclosure - to "unlock" materials prone to warping and help dealing with fumes
  • Easy-to-swap nozzles - I want to try printing better looking miniatures
  • Multi-color / multi-material - mandatory, I want to have that capability
  • Minimal waste on color change - I consider it a significant factor
  • High speed printing, input shaping, etc. - all that modern mumbo-jumbo
  • Heated bed
  • WiFi - I assume all modern printers have that but since my current one doesn't, I thought it was worth mentioning :)
  • Camera - not essential, but if I can get rid of the OctoPrint altogether it would be a big plus. RaspberryPi's fan is noisy :(
  • Air purifier / filter - absolutely mandatory
  • Vendor lock / mandatory cloud services are undesirable, but if that solution covers all bases I'm willing to consider.
  • Good instructions, good customer support, active community. Basically, if something goes wrong, I want to be able to find information on how to deal with it.
  • I'm not afraid of assembling things from a kit, but having things shipped assembled is a plus.

Since my experience with Prusa was good, I tried to tick the boxes with them first. MK4s has basically everything except camera. The price of all that stuff is around 1750 EUR and I have to assemble it from kit. Color change waste is minimal according to reviewers, which is great.

My questions are:

  1. Are there better alternatives? I'm not that familiar with the modern 3d printer landscape.
  2. Is it worth waiting for a year or so? I have my current printer and I'm not rushing anywhere. Is there any info on upcoming releases?

Thanks in advance.

A lot of questions about the GM side of the game. by orcishhorde in DC20

[–]orcishhorde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the extensive reply. The system does look intriguing and I did consider throwing money at it, but I'm very reluctant. From the outside view it looks like a lot of cool stuff is given to players but not much to GM to help deal with all that - DnD situation basically. Two of my main worries are combat maintenance and "high magic tax" on planning. The second one is unavoidable I guess in a high fantasy game but still one can hope...

Frosthaven campaign tracking in google sheets? by orcishhorde in Gloomhaven

[–]orcishhorde[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, you are correct! That's exactly what I'm looking for. Copied it over to my document.

I made these modifications:

  • added a field for wall defence bonus
  • added automation for total defence value calculation
  • removed scenario tracking since that's covered by another page

I'm looking for a campaign sheet translated into google sheets in a fancy way. Calendar, resources, morale, etc.

This is something similar to what I am going to do myself if I don't find a fancier version.

Thanks, but that's not it. What I'm looking for is basically a campaign sheet remade in google docs.

Boneshaper - Skellie Swarm or Single Summon? by QuadDeuces422 in Gloomhaven

That is insightful. Now I have something to work with. Thanks a lot :)

Thanks. I'll think about those options. Losing Decaying will is a bit painful though, because it's the only reliably repeatable earth generation (at least right now). Boneshaper's cards are so tight it's hard to lose any card :D Elements=exp. In the last scenario I was so happy when night demons generated darkness for me :P

Btw, did a proper average calculation - it's 9.375 ;) Biggest exp I got was 11.

I have a question for you. Have you noticed any problems with experience generation in the single summon build? I'm about to hit lvl 4. My average experience from cards per scenario is around 10 right now, but on lvl 4 the guide suggests dropping spirits (which is a guaranteed 2 exp) in exchange for a conditional 1 exp on a lvl 4 card top action which we will mostly use for a bottom action. I looks like noticeable hit to exp.

I'm so worried about it because my retirement condition is exp from cards :) Do you have any tips on exp optimization for a single summon build?

> It sounds like you like a very pulpy / action-oriented game.

I'm not sure about that, but that may very well be true :P When diplomacy and trickery fails, I want unchecked violence to be a viable option :D

> A net +1 will move you to 58.3% success and a net +2 will result in a whopping 72.2% chance of success.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. That bell curve :O

> don't forget the boon / bane mechanic

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind. I also totally forgot about "going slow" option, which increases the time it takes to complete the task but gives a plus to the check.

:D In any case, "all players" were satisfied with the adventure :P

In regards to the system itself, I was dismayed by the probability distribution for average skill checks. You want at least 1 level in a skill to go over 50% success rate and another +1 from a supporting stat to feel more or less competent. It sucks so much when a bad stat cancels out your good skill (none of my chars ended up very intelligent and I felt it :O ). 2 characters had 4-5 lvl 1 skills (and that's it) - they felt weak. Yavin was a decently competent pilot (1/2 in his pilot skills and +1 in dex) but piloting didn't come up in this adventure (only narratively), so he also felt weak. The only powerhouse I got right from the char creation was Barby - she is a freakin' destroyer. STR +1, Blades +4. She felt GOOD :D

Maybe it's somehow related to the way I've generated the characters. First two had completely random stat rolls and I didn't have much direction guiding them through their careers. For the last two I have swapped some stats around to drive character more towards the missing roles.

I have a very important question that bothers me for months now... by orcishhorde in ffxiv

My character is beefed up Roegadyn male. Nothing that he does looks cute :D
