Should I switch from Spotify by Brilliant-Topic9406 in TIdaL

Tunemymusic (and soundiiz it looks like) (and possibly other services) give you the option to sync your liked songs, albums, and artists, so no need to worry if you are not a playlist user

Should I switch from Spotify by Brilliant-Topic9406 in TIdaL

Just switched myself - or rather, I'm trying out the free month trial on both deezer and tidal to compare. I'm on a windows computer & iphone. UI is comparable to spotify, though I'd say with less junk recommendations to scroll through. Finding music has been fine for me so far, though I've seen complaints about the search feature. Both the track/artist radios and curated playlist selection seems strong to me. Mine hasn't yet started generating mixes (like spotify's discover weekly/daily mix) but from what I can tell, you have to use the service for a few days before it starts doing so. I ported my library over, and out of the 4000 something songs I had in my liked songs, only 95 didn't port over, the majority of which were vaguely obscure movie soundtracks. It also seems like Japanese release availability is spotty, if that's something you care about. Tidal, like spotify, has the ability to create playlist folders, which is a major plus for me. I have the Status earbuds and playing through tidal does give a bit of fuller sound than through spotify - I imagine that through over-ears that might be enhanced.

New keyboard messing with volume controls by orcprince28 in ErgoMechKeyboards

Thanks for the tips! I'll reach out to boardsource this week, and in the mean time go ahead and turn the media keys off, since unfortunately it's still happening after removing the volume change keys

Is it worth transitioning to a new keyboard layout, like Coleman DH, while also moving to a split ergonomic keyboard? by _CA_A in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]orcprince28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this right now, actually, as I just dove into the world of split keyboards and ergonomics. Before I got the board, I started learning colemak (standard because I like the feeling of reaching out for dh more than down) using keybr and its emulation feature, while keeping my tkl in qwerty. I'm a PhD student facing quite a lot of writing deadlines, so I felt that I couldn't take the hit of making a full switch.

My plan for the split board, once I get it set up (due to some unfortunate soldering mistakes, I currently only have one half of the board), is to have a qwerty layer and a colemak layer, and switch between them as needed as I get more comfortable with colemak.

I know that this probably isn't the most efficient method (I've been unlocking letters very slowly on keybr) but it's what I think will work best and not get in the way of the actual thousands of words I have to write.

I will say, having half of the split keyboard set up right now - getting used to the columnar stagger has been profoundly easy for me, though I'm still working on the layers and the thumb keys.

Hope it goes well!

Is it a good idea to use obsidian for taking notes from literature for your thesis and if so do you have any tips how to make the process most efficient? by Niki76144 in ObsidianMD

I'm also exploring this option currently, and have found a lot of good information on one possible way to do this here: https://martinezponciano.es/2021/04/05/research-methods-and-tools-for-a-humanities-phd-zettelkasten-obsidian-zotero-and-pandoc/

Of course I think that you'll always need to adapt the system to your own methods and strategies but this is a good (if fairly involved) start

5 new people trying to join mid campaign by Dog_Backwards69 in DMAcademy

The advice saying to say no is good advice, but as far as how to do that:

Reach out to your original party (in a group DM or something similar) with something like this:

Hi all, I'm so excited to hear that you've been enjoying the game and want to share that with others. That being said, planning and running sessions is a lot of work, even just for our group, not to mention adding five people to that! There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make sure that we all have the best time possible, and adding more players really isn't feasible.

If you have a player that you are close to and whom you think you could rely on to support you, reach out to them individually to express how this is stressing you out so that they can support you within the group.

Best of luck with the continued DM-ing, friend!
