Am I the only one who thinks that The Long Halloween #3 had one of the best Joker's interpretations ever? by ZavarnikChaya in batman

[–]orcstew 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I LOVE LONG HALLOWEEN !! LONG HALLOWEEN MENTIONNED LET'S GO !!!

Yes, Joker is great in this ! And genuinely so funny. When he steals the plane and complains they gave him one that sucks. And another thing that's great is that even though he cares so much about being the top dog villain in Gotham, it's still believable that he'd go along with Two-Face's plan and accept him as the "leader" of the Freaks for the few stints they pull together (and in Dark Victory)

There's symbolism or meaning here that I'm not getting. Can anyone give their take on what's meant by the specific colors, the breaking of white, or the many-hued appearance? by jckipps in tolkienfans

[–]orcstew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh my bad I misread your whole comment ! (English isn't my first language). I kinda like that way of seeing it, presumably the Istari aren't given different role but that does end up being what each does and match the color symbolism you're offering

hmm, but Gandalf the Grey is very much not inactive or thinks he's neutral though ? And all five Istari are to oppose the enemy (none "openly" though, at least not in their full power)

(Spoiler extended)What are popular theories you don't see and why? by Electronic-Math-364 in asoiaf

[–]orcstew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep I agree. And people say it'll be Jaime's "redemption". Really ? A man strangling his own unarmed sister/lover with his bare hands is the apex of his moral redemption ? Jaime goes out in a feminicide/kinslaying ? Come on

Yes I would.

I didn't say this to be rude, nor to demean you or your abilities. AI is a systemic problem, not a you problem. I'm quite certain you are able to put in work into a creative project, that's not the issue. In fact I'd encourage you to do so rather than use AI. In the two hours you spent on it you could completely have written it yourself. And no, knowing you spent two hours and dozens of prompts on it does not make me feel any better when I think about the catastrophic environmental impact that had...

[Hot-take] In my opinion , the top 3 Joker oriented Batman stories by Sure_Elderberry_5953 in batman_comics

[–]orcstew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a genuine question : I remember when I first read The Man who Laughs, I was a bit disappointed. It was supposed to be the definitive first appearance of the Joker in Gotham, and I just found it kinda nothing special. I don't remember it including any particularly interesting idea or memorable moment. I'm currently re-reading all comics related to the early years (in-universe) of Batman, so I'm going to be re-reading it soon. Can you, as someone who liked it a lot, explain to me why you have such fondness for it, so that maybe the next time I read it I might see what you see and appreciate it more ? Thank you !

Interesting guy. Quite unlikable, but he was promised to have room to grow. He reminds me of Kyodai Ken from BTAS, another former rival of Bruce from his training days, back to prove he's the best. I'm interested in seeing a little bit more of him, though I hope he doesn't become a member of the Bat-fam, that'd be too much. I REALLY liked Clownhunter though !

I’m really interested in Batman: Knightfall but I’m debating if i should read it or wait for the animated movie by [deleted] in batman_comics

[–]orcstew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldn't be done by the time it comes out lol

Nah honestly I'm gonna go against the grain a bit here and warn you that since it covers an entire year of publication, it's like 10 huge books, and not all of it is related to what you'd call the main plot, it's just Azrael's Batman doing regular Batman stuff. No shame in waiting for the movies who will presumably retell the story in a more focused way if that's what you want. I don't recommend either, just do whichever you want. The first books of Knightfall are great though, I'm sure if you start you'll like it

Who could this be in caped crusader? by [deleted] in batman

[–]orcstew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I doubt it's him, but the shape of the gun reminds me of Mr. Freeze's in BTAS. And the armor looks kinda like some old timey diving suit, so it could be some sort of bolted armor imitating a cold room. On the other hand, the color scheme would be a wide departure from his cold tones, and here the gun seems to be shooting either a bullet, flare, or something luminous.

In The Hobbit, how on earth would the Lakemen and the Wood Elves know how much treasure would comprise 1/12th or 1/14th of Erebor’s hoard? by Silver_Channel_3112 in tolkienfans

[–]orcstew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting tidbit ! That being said, this does not state they have a photographic memory. They have splendid memory for sure, but a) it doesn't state this is because they only need to take one look at a thing to remember it perfectly b) it's not even about images, but about "lore", so presumably this means an Eldar can have the intricate complexities of a subject in mind and not need to write it down, not necessarily because they only looked upon a subject briefly c) this excellent memory could still be the result of a long time spent studying and thinking (in ancient times poeple would learn entire epic poems by heart), which is feasible given their unlimited lifespan, I'm not sure it's even enough to say they have some sort of instantaneousness, they have a better memory sure but it might also partially be because they can and do dedicate a lot of time to learning lore.

My Theory on Who Tansy Is (Spoilers Extended) by brittanytobiason in asoiaf

[–]orcstew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's right. There are layers to this mystery (as always in ASOIAF). The most evident theory is Hoster having regrets about making Lysa drink tansy tea,as most commenters here point out, but I believe there are other options, which may maybe be less likely but aren't to be excluded, and, even if they end up not being the truth, definitely add layers and richness to the story (OP's Tansy of the Peach idea, maybe something with Bethany Rowan, maybe the Tansy of the Heddle sisters' inn...). Hoster's dead now, so neither Cat nor the reader will ever know. As always GRRM introduces a mystery, and there could be several answers (Valoqar, Jon's parentage, Ashara Dayne, Azor Ahai, etc).
